My husband has been suffering with depression, mood swings, social anxiety, ADHD, irritability, weight gain, etc. for the past 8 years. At first we thought it was hypothyroidism, but his levels didn't register high enough on his blood chem test to alarm the doctor enough to give him an Rx (even though he has the tell-tale sign of thinned eyebrows). Recently, we came across an article about the sym...

This supplement has made a noticeable difference in my overall well-being. My metabolism feels more regulated, and I have more stamina throughout the day. Nutraharmony's blend of selenium and tyrosine is excellent for thyroid support.

I tried this supplement my junior year of college as school and life became increasingly hard to manage due to my ADHD. I’ve always had ADHD but my parents are stereotypical Kenyans that shun all psych drugs and don’t believe in mental illnesses, so I never took any medication. After a brief google search, I purchased this in hopes of getting rid of my constant fatigue and gain some motivation. I didn’t notice a difference other than feeling more awake for the first week, like a cup of coffee effect. Everything went to shit the second week when I began having panic attacks multiple times a day and very irrational/intrusive anxious thoughts. At work, I’d get random thoughts that my coworkers were talking about me, felt as if I was doing something wrong and everyone was judging me. Just overall irrational thoughts that I couldn’t control. It wasn’t until I was sitting in bed rocking back and fourth that I put 2+2 together that this was causing me major anxiety. Stay away if you’re prone to panic attacks and anxiety!Read More Read Less

My husband had a quadruple by-pass. After the surgery he had severe panic attacks every night. Tried several medication but nothing helped. After some research, he tried L-Tyrosine and it made all the difference! Long as he takes it he has no panic attacks and sleeps through the night. It is amazing!

I took L- tirosine for hyperthyroidism. It balances my TSH but it messed with my hormones and I got high testosteron and from it sebaceous hyperplasia on my face, on my boob and under it.

Benefits: more energy and started cleaning my entire house one hour after intake?!! I’ve suffered from undiagnosed depression and exhaustion and I can’t believe tyrosine worked so well for me! I haven’t felt this energetic for years Downside: insomnia (unfortunately, but I’m only on my first day (I took it 4pm) and it was a very high dose (bottle rec.) so I’m trying a small dose tomorrow MORNING to see if it slows down in the evening. I’m super awake and it’s 1am… lasts long so keep that in mind! Read More Read Less

I have been working with a Functional Medicine doc for help with gut Dysbiosis, SIBO. Sjogrens Syndrome, fatty liver, EPI, anxiety, depression small fiber neuropathy, MCI and ADD. On testing it showed decreased dopamine and serotonin. I have tried every SRI out there and had bad side effects from all of them. She first tried Dopa Boost, and I had a bad reaction to that. We recently tried L Tyrosine, and the first week, I had pretty bad indigestion and a slight headache. As I increased the dose over the first week, these side effects went away, and I have been experiencing short feelings of joy. Also noticed that I feel my sense of humor improving, and generally less agitated, and brain fog improving, and improved libido. I feel like I did 20 years ago before menopause. I am hopeful I have found a magic pill. The only concerning thing is I had a high B/P at the dentist, but none since then, so need to keep an eye on B/P. Hope this continues to work! I got put on this due to being unable to take adderall anymore for my CFS due to a heart issue(im bedridden at this point) and my naturopath swore by this stuff… i notice zero difference aside from possible anxiety increase as well as soaking the sheets w sweat at night. This was my last option for my fatigue and it was completely non effective.

I have a severe depression (diagnosed 3 years ago), severe anxiety with physical pain, panic attacks, fibromyalgia (pain -not aches, in muscles skin joints, I basically can’t stand up sometimes), got hemorrhagic dengue fever twice (last time 3 weeks ago and it trashed me)… i was a complete mess, honestly. I had tried sertroline (nope! Gave me an unnatural feeling of a real life poorly made filter in my head… it’s hard to describe), was prescribed cymbalta but every time I read about it it just seemed so wrong to do it to my body, i had never tried it but the last week I was about to because it got completely unbearable to fight anymore this constant state of grieving, deepest hopeless for nothing, not being able to do anything and constant feeling of the world ending when in reality everything is fine. So, I learned about L-tyrosine and 5 htp. And it has changed my life. After the first dose of only 250mg in the morning on an empty stomach in 3 hours I was more or less back to life! Without “filters”, feeling natural and great, being curious about doing things I like.. later at around 3pm I took 25mg of 5htp (10:1 dose ratio), and a very high on CBD (physical relaxation) no THC (no high) gummy at 9pm as usual - helps A LOT for fibromyalgia A LOT. The second day same routine. Yesterday was my 3rd day and I didn’t take anything and I was still feeling great. Today i took only 50mg of L tyrosine and 5mg of 5htp - works great! THE LAST TIME I FELT THIS WAY WAS 10(!) years ago before my mom’s passing. I’ve being crying happy tears for the past 4 days because I feel myself again, the world isn’t ending, everything is possible and doable again, I’m a professional artist and I want to start painting again. I am my natural regular self. I’m writing this and I’m literally crying dear people because this thing brought me back from such a dark place! You should try it, carefully, with the smallest dose (I’m going to see to lower it even more and maybe once every 3-4 days for 2-3 weeks to not get used to it), see for the side effects and if any simply lower the dose. I’m endlessly grateful! Note: I keep healthy lifestyle, no caffeine, almost no sugar, exercising every other day, supplements vitamins hydration, walks, physiologist every now and then.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Tyrosine for RLS (restless leg syndrome) for a few years now, and it has proven very effective. At first I took 500mg morning and evening each day, with occasional occurrences of RLS still happening. Late last year I decided to start taking all 1000mg in the evening, and the RLS has almost completely stopped.

I am 18 years old and I started taking L-Tyrosine to reduce stress and anxiety and help with my lack of concentration skills. Many people take L-Tyrosine for ADHD and Depression which works amazing for those conditions. As for my experience, because I've already had issues with stress and anxiety and not so much with those other conditions, L-Tyrosine worsened my anxiety and made it extremely hard to sleep at night. I would wake up with anxiety attacks and sweat a lot. I would also have irrational intrusive thoughts non-stop. It might help some people reduce stress and anxiety if they haven't suffered with those issues long term. However, L-Tyrosine is more affective for depression because it releases chemicals like epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine which is what many people with depression and ADHD lack. Many people with anxiety have too much norepinephrine and epinephrine. So therefore, I would suggest taking L-Theanine instead and changing your lifestyle if you are dealing with stress and anxiety. This supplement changed my life!!! I am not big on medications prescribed by Dr's. In fact, I refuse to go on medication. However, I made the decision that if this did not work I would consider medication. Three days into taking it, I felt the difference. I felt lighthearted and every day has been a good day since taking it. I literally have been taking a "Chill Pill" because I do not sweat the small stuff and really nothing disturbs my inner peace. I have never felt any side effects and I am on my third bottle. I give credit to Tik Tok. YAY!!!Read More Read Less

I've had depression and panic attacks for most of my 40 years of life and thought I'd finally found the one thing to help me. Took 750mgs of Tyrosine in the morning for 3 days. Last night, had the worst panic attack of my life. Thank God I had Klonopin because I was a mess. I'm so sad today because I really felt like the tyrosine was helping a little with depression. Definitely wasn't helping the anxiety, so I was worried this might happen.

AFAIK, there are something like five groups of neurotransmitters that affect depression (serotonin group, dopamine group, opioid group, GABA group, norepinephrine group), but most antidepressants only target serotonin. Antidepressants and supplements targeting serotonin have never worked for me, causing only feelings of rage plus other bad side effects, but no decrease in depression. Tyrosine helps the brain increase dopamine, which means more pleasure. My depression was more anhedonia (lack of joy, about anything) than absolute pit of despair. Tyrosine really helps make life more pleasurable - food tastes better, comedy is funnier, everything is just more enjoyable, so life feels more worth living, which is what I needed. 500 - 1000 mg daily. Sometimes I substitute Phenylalanine, which is a precursor to Tyrosine that also affects other neurotransmitters, but it acts a bit like a stimulant and can affect my sleep.Read More Read Less

I was taking L-Tyrosine for about 3-4 months a few times a week. I took 200mg to start, and went up to 1000mg towards the end of my use. I wanted it to help mitigate my ADHD symptoms and work in conjunction with my prescribed stimulants (methylphenidate based). I found that L-Tyrosine made me incredibly tired/sleepy (and my stimulants didn't help that), and it gave me some stomach upset heart burn. I didn't experience any benefits to taking it, and the higher the dose was, the worse the side effects were. I stopped taking it. I believe eating foods higher in phenylalanine (the amino acid that tyrosine is made from) like seeds, nuts, whole grains, soy products, avocados, bananas, etc are safer, and just as beneficial (if not more so) than a supplement. For the past 6-8 months I have been getting bouts of minor depression that were seemingly spontaneous. Having a bad mood, negative thoughts, being quiet, no excitement, etc...I do a google search and read something about epinephrine which leads me to tyrosine, something my gym-going brother keeps in the kitchen cabinet. I take about 300-500mg only one time and I just felt like my normal self after about an hour :) Guess I had an epinephrine deficiency or something.

I find that 500mg on an empty stomach every few days is sufficient to keep my depression at bay. However, I do seem to develop a headache much later in the day on days that I take tyrosine.

This worked well for about 3 weeks, and then it made me super depressed. It made me not want t olive and it's scary because this is over the counter. I would use with caution. It may work well for others, but not for me.
