My husband has been suffering with depression, mood swings, social anxiety, ADHD, irritability, weight gain, etc. for the past 8 years. At first we thought it was hypothyroidism, but his levels didn't register high enough on his blood chem test to alarm the doctor enough to give him an Rx (even though he has the tell-tale sign of thinned eyebrows). Recently, we came across an article about the sym...

As a supplement to enhance better continuity of sleep at night, L-Tyrosine seems to provide ease of falling asleep and staying asleep without any side-effects or heaviness of other sleep aids.

I have been feeling like a zombie for ages suspecting thyroid. After the doctor told me my thyroid was "normal" I was diagnosed with M E (CFS)and fibromyalgia. I am only 35 and went from bad to worse. Daily activities had reduce to about an hour a day if I was lucky and then I'm whacked out for the rest of it! This continued for about 3 months where I get as mentally tired as I do physically. I saw these and thought I would give them a try. I feel like a new person. I'm not sure exactly what they do to my body which helps, but I feel so much better. I'm not back to normal, but with a young family I can resume a normal ish life, house work and still have the energy to go out in the evening too. I've only been on them about 4 days and take one in the morning which seems to last till about dinner time, so I have another to boost me threw the evening. I can't believe how much better I feel and what a difference it has made. I feel brighter, happier and more able to cope with my illness as well as having more energy.Read More Read Less

My diagnoses are many (chronic fatigue syndrome, ADHD, myalgia, excessive daytime sleepiness, generalized anxiety disorder and major depression). After 10 years of searching for the Holy Grail and 2 weeks of taking 500mg 3x daily on an empty stomach. All of my symptoms have DRASTICALLY improved. I know: "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is...", but considering I had nothing to lose and everything to gain (all the pharmaceuticals prescribed such as Ritalin, Cymbalta etc.) have helped, but never seemed to get to the root of the problem. Instead now I feel like I found a million dollars! Well, I don't know if others will have such astonishing results, but I would say that considering the risks vis-à-vis pharmaceuticals designed to treat the SYMPTOMS of these diseases at the other end (i.e. by blocking reuptake of neurotransmitters), it seems like it makes more sense to address the issue at its source, i.e. "feeding" the brain and allowing it to convert what it really needs, rather than bombarding it with chemicals. Of course, there's no money to be made in this since it’s natural therefore unable to be patented, so gee, I wonder why NO DOCTOR has ever recommended this to me, and why I had to suffer the insufferable for so long!!! I noticed that these relatively safe amino acids are routinely prescribed in Europe with proven efficacy and a safe track record, with almost no or minimal side effects and risks. So I would say, "What does one have to lose?" My psychiatrist mentioned that the only reason he couldn't recommend it to me after I reported my experience was that “it's not FDA approved for this use”. Hum... Draw your own conclusion(s). I have no personal "mission" and I'm not making any money on this, either. And the quality of my life has improved immensely!Read More Read Less

Tyrosine supplements may cause some side effects, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. In some individuals, tyrosine supplementation can trigger migraine headaches and gastrointestinal distress. Tyrosine may also increase thyroid hormone production, which can be dangerous if you suffer from an overactive thyroid or Graves disease. Tyrosine may also interact with some medications, such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors, thyroid hormone and levodopa. Talk with your doctor before taking a tyrosine supplement if you are also taking any medications to make sure there will be no adverse interactions.Read More Read Less

It helped me concentrate when taking it, but I got a terrible migraine after a few days (which I never get), but I started getting anxious. When I stopped taking it, I was really depressed for a few days, lost my sex drive, which had spiked when I took it, and caused a lot of anxiety like my chest was going to explode when I would excercise. I've had a history with depression, and tyrosine helps for the time being, but isn't worth the side effects...at least not with my body chemistry.

I have delayed sleep phase syndrome, also called shift-work sleep disorder. I use adderall XR to treat it. After taking adderall for so long, a very noticeable decrease in efficacy occurs, and l-tyrosine is able to bring it back up to normal. I take adderall and dose 500mg l-tyrosine multiple times throughout the day. Finally found a good system that works for me.

Less depression. Did have short rages, diabetic. Took the edge off stress. Rages seldom now, & less severe.

Very effective for ADD. I wish someone sold smaller doses. I buy 500 mg tablets from GNC and cut them in fourths with a pill cutter. If I take 500 mg I am bouncing off the walls!

I use it for anxiety when taking tests I have recently gone back to school to be an RN and I get so anxious my heart races and I could not focus, this seems to take that away. It makes me settle down and become more focused.

I am taking 1000 mg of l-tyrosine/ day and all depression was gone after a week . I take it now for 6 months. The only concern i have is if it could have any side effects i am not aware of. . I took the anti depressant Ixel before for 2 years which helped as well but made me rather agressive and can have a multitude of other side effects and beside is really expensive ! Please let me know about your own experience with L tyrosine !

I started taking this for narcolepsy to replace adderall. Very effective. Unlike Adderall, it does not make me shaky or OCD, just awake and alert. One unusual side effect- highly increased sex drive- no joke!
