I've only been using this med for 5 days, following detox. It takes a while for the med to start working the doc said, I have found my cravings for wine at least cut in half. I don't like my side effect of being unsteady and a little dizy at times... the motor control isues are worse than with booze,, at least for me. Does the previous writer, the guy who think it doen't work, go to support gr...

I took this for five years until I lost my job during COVID-19. It's been a year and finally Medicare decided to cover it. Thank God! For me it's great for keeping me balanced. No alcohol, chocolate anymore. I don't know how it works but it's wonderful to have the help. Please try to help yourself. ??
I have had no side effects not sure if it has kicked in 100% I have only been on it for 3 days so far so good I was a liter of vodka drinker every night
I was 5 days into taking this medicine and it caused me serious anxiety. Hands shaking, heart beating like crazy. I called my dr. 4 times with no return call. I do not have a dr at the time and am seriously thinking about going to a substance abuse dr who offers counseling also. I have gone to AA, which I did not like and it didn't help me. I have quit before for almost a year. I'm sick of drinking. If I can't stop by myself, I will go to the substance abuse dr.
This drug has literally been a life changer for me. Over 28 years of solid drinking every day and still being functional and now I do not drink nor have the urge to do so. No side affects for me personally, this drug really helps. I am now 47 days sober and feel great - better skin, less irritable bowels and no horrific hangovers. I went through a 2 week detox as an inpatient to get through the worst of withdrawal with librium and vitamins and have since been discharged and have been prescribed Acamprosate 2 X 300mg X 3 times a day. I am so grateful to the workers who have helped me through this - and as for the drinking - it feels like a distant memory. Highly recommended if you are allowed to take it.Read More Read Less
I have not started on this medication and had to select the choices, but they do not apply to me as of yet. My doctor is recommending this for my binge eating. I have never heard of this drug before and I would love to hear if any one else is taking this for that. I have been sugar binger and have been most of my life. I know that addiction is addiction and it doesn't matter what it is, our brains just don't function the way someone else's brain does that doesn't have an addition to something. Hope to hear back from anyone.Read More Read Less
1st night after taking it l woke up 4am with Terrible itching and hives on left leg and both my hands were so swollen left hand became Twice the size... could not sleep from the intense itching. Next night less intense because l took half the dose!. (I'm 111 lbs.) Then l Stopped taking Acamprosate because l also was coming down with a terrible cold at that time. Then, l got and still have a bad case of Laryngitis that will not go away. I do piano songs at Elder homes and have not been able to sing yet! That was over a month and 1/2 ago. BUT l havent wanted a drink since! I expect this might wear off but when l want a drink l grab a caffeine free Diet Coke. I'd like to start taking it but am not sure about the dose. NO QUESTION THIS STUFF WORKS. (I would, previous to starting Acamprosate have had 2 or 3 drinks a day.) I'd just like to get the dose figured out and hopefully start taking it again before l get the urge to want a drink again. But the other thing stopping me from taking it again would be that l'm afraid it has actually affected my vocal chords. I've never had Laryngitis before and l've still got it after trying every remedy! Read More Read Less
I have drank pretty much everyday for the last 2-3 years with 3 different rehabs. I’ve tried a few other drugs to help stop the cravings and for my anxiety, which helped, but not like this drug. Acamprosate Calcium has honestly saved my life. Ive been on it for over a month now, and have no desire to drink. I am working out everyday, on time to work and enjoying it, not looking for my next drink. No more hiding bottles, worrying about my alcohol breath at work, no more puffy face, my teeth and skin look so much better, hair is already looking healthier, a complete turn around. I am SO thankful for this drug and for my Dr. who prescribed it. I wish all alcoholics knew about this. To me, its a miracle. Read More Read Less
I have had a drinking problem that progressively got worse over this course of the year I felt it was and escape but it was destroying me and everything with it I can’t tell you how great this medication has worked for me I’ve been taking it for about 2 weeks now and have lost most of the cravings but I have one once in a while but over all 10/10 I feel so much better too.
What a blessing this medicine has been for me. I e drank off and on my whole adult life . And the times I was drinking I set out to get drunk, not a buzz but right down be a total mess. But in the last year and a i was drinking 4 pints of whiskey a day every day. It was the worst year of my life. I knew I was on the fast track to hell or prison. I was a drunk woman that wanted to get even with the world. I thank God for steering me to right Drs. And behavior out patient. I was sick of being sick but I was afraid my seizure disorder and bad heart I would die. This pill has put me back in control w/o side affects and no alcohol withdrawal. I give these pills a hundred stars Iâ??m me again Iâ??m in control and I love being sober every day Read More Read Less
First week on this medication and it seems to work. My need to drink just isnâ??t there. But I have yhis feeling of something missing but sure itâ??s that Iâ??m used to packing a cold one around the house. Iâ??ll get back and give another review after one month. Wish me luck.
I just started taking this medication after receiving my second DUI as a 23 year old. Im fairly optimistic its going to help but nervous as to which side effects Im going to get but I guess I will see as time passes. Ive been going to therapy for a fairly long time but hopefully the addition of medication will do the trick.
Hello I am back again and I have been on this miracle drug now for almost 3 months. I haven't totally lost the cravings but almost. I really think besides the cravings when you have been drinking for so long and you quit it seems like you are missing something when you are not, actually. Been a drunk like forever, been sober so many times I lost count. I reduced my intake of this medicine to 1 a day and I really seem to be ok. I still have 3 more refills and taking 1 a day instead of 3 they will last for more than a year, as I hope I will too. It is so hard to watch any tv or a movie because they glorify drinking so much. It almost killed me twice by itself, two or three times driving, too. So, if you are taking this medicine, it really works for me. I wish people who reviewed years ago would come back, I really hope they made it and are still sober. I know how hard it is for me. I will come back next month if it is still working. Hope I can make it through football season and the holidays.Read More Read Less
I was here a month ago and this is a follow up review. This medication is a miracle so far. I had a craving the other day but it wasn't as strong as before and I whooped it. I have been through so many attempts at sobriety that I lost count. I tried Naltrexone, but eventually just drank through it. I hope I can stay sober at least until this prescription is complete, I may get some more if I need it. I am still going strong, I only wish some of the others who reviewed the drug would come back and tell us it is still working. Thanks!Read More Read Less
I am new to this medication and it seems to be working, but it is still too early like two weeks so it could still be just a placebo effect for all I know. I tried Naltrexone and eventually drank through that stuff. I can't afford to get pancreatitis again it almost killed me the first time, got lucky the second time. AA and/or psychotropic drug therapy will not work for me since I tried AA before and those drugs make you feel like a zombie. I would like to hear from some of the other posters from years past. Are you still sober and/or are you still taking this medicine? I am hoping this is that miracle I have been looking for, since I know if there was there would be no alcoholics with problems like us.Read More Read Less
I have been taking acamprosate and have been sober for a year. I'm not 100% sure how it is working for me but my sobriety speaks for itself. I am slowly tapering off the medication and have not had any side effects so far.
What a relief. Not sure if there was somewhat a placebo effect at first, but I found without a doubt that if I was too late with doses or missed doses, I found myself getting very upset. This stuff definitely helps my brain calm down and even out! I did get a rash when I first started taking it, and there may be some effects of diarherra or gas, but it's hard to tell due to other things that could cause this. I love this stuff! Yea!
Don't know how it works but it's a miracle drug for me anyway.
I was drinking 1.75 liters of hard liquor every three days. I had tried naltrexone with no results. I won't go to a psychologist or AA so my doctor offered Campral. Within 10 days my craving was nearly gone. It's been a month now and I've not felt the urge for a drink. Only annoying thing is taking 2 pills three times a day.
been on this medication for 5 days. Experiencing excessive sweating. Is this normal ???
