I have been taking this medication for almost 8 years for anxiety issues. It has been extremely helpful for me. Very recently I was experiencing a bit of anxiety for the first time in many years, so my dosage was increased from 7.5 mg 2X/day to 10 mg 2X/day. The increased dosage has eliminated the anxiety attacks. I see that a lot of people review this medication after only being on it for les...

Dr told me it would work right away, or it wouldn't...didn't need to give it time. Comments here indicate I need to give it time. Also, she didn't make it clear, 5 g am 5 g pm so I've been taking 10 g at night. No help with anxiety, has made me feel very moody, feel like crying at random times throughout the day. I upped it to 15, slept all day. Upped it to 20, still no anxiety relief

I tried EVERYTHING for my GAD and this is the ONLY drug with NO side effects that was worked for me! Sure, Zoloft works, but I gained 40lbs in a year! Buspar is a miracle drug and I HIGHLY recommend it.

This medication works for me! Now, in the beginning I experienced headaches, but my doctor told me to talk half 5mg and the other half later in the day. Since I've done that, I feel great. I don't feel dizzy anymore, I don't worry or stress. Now the flip side is that during PMS it does make me emotional, but I am not freaking out like before, so I would rather cry for a few days, then feel completely out of control like I'm going crazy.

I was having panic attacks, pounding heart beat, chest pain (almost thought I was having a heart attack on three different occasions). This medication has helped me tremendously with my panic attacks and sleeplessness.

I plainly told my Dr not to prescribe this but he would listen as usual, now I tried it again and feel like im having a heart attack and my ears are roaring. I work full time and I have to be on my toes. This is worse than zoloft or paxil, paxil did finally work after 2 weeks a feeling like metal running through my veins.

I have only been on this for 5 days. It does seem to stop me from catastrophizing and obsessing over negative thoughts/interactions. It doesn't help with negative emotions that really matter, but it does give me some emotional distance. Does make me groggy (first day, I could barely stay awake for 1-2 hours after the dose), more so if I don't take it with food. But that effect has gotten a lot better. I really didn't like the psychiatrist who recommended it (he wanted to put me on Prozac, but I was leery of SSRIs and wanted to try this first) so if I'm happy with it may ask my GP to prescribe. Overall, I think it's a good drug.Read More Read Less

I have been on this for about 6 months. My diagnosis is generalized anxiety disorder and I frequently experience debilitating anxiety attacks (even while working and I NEED to focus). My psychiatrist started me on this as a last resort. I am also taking Klonopin, Xanax, Celexa, Prestiq, and hydroxyzine. I am decreasing the xanax now and have experienced horrible side effects. BusPar is definitely no substitute for benzodiazepine withdrawal but it is actually helping me tremendously. I take 4, 5mg (20mg) every morning with hydroxyzine and 0.5mg of xanax. I know that's a lot but I do believe that there is finally hope and that I can completely get off of Xanax (and eventually Klonopin) with this. It didn't work at first. It took about 3 months before I felt ANY relief from anxiety from Busbar. Be patient, give it time. Increase or decrease your dose (per doctors recommendation) before you write this med off as "not working". I almost did but am so glad I didn't. Also, don't just think one pill (or several in my case) will relieve you of all your anxiety. You have to work at it. Exercise, cognitive behavior therapy, diet, and deep breathing help tremendously. Also, I found that I will have less attacks if I do not drink caffeine and get enough sleep (I have to have at least 8 hours every night). Good luck everyone. Anxiety is so debilitating. I've had anxiety for as long as I can remember (even as a child), after trying many medications including Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, etc, it really wasn't keeping my mood at a consistent level. I started taking Buspar (30 mg morning, 15 mg at night). It has made an amazing difference. I don't have that horrible feeling or the dreaded feelings I had before. My mood has been pretty stable, I do take this along with a mood stabilizer (Lamictal), Seroquel for sleep, and a new drug for major depressive disorder (Brintellix). I will continue to take Buspar as long as it continues to be effective. It also has very few side effects, but I did have night sweats when I took the 30mg dose at night so I switched and take 15mg at night and 30 in the morning and that has helped a ton. A very effective medication for me and I'm glad I've got it. Read More Read Less

I started developing anxiety while driving with the symptoms increasing to the point where I couldn't even drive out of my parking lot without shaking uncontrollably. I was (mistakenly) diagnosed with Generalized anxiety and given Busperone 7.5 mg 2x a day. While I can't say that it really did anything about the anxiety, I also had no notable side effects. I have since been given a more accurate diagnosis and while I'm still trying out the medication and counseling therapy that will work best for me, Buspirone was not it for me, but it may work well for others.Read More Read Less

It was prescribed as a "kicker" to help ease the bouts of anxiety my 13 year old son was having that his prozac was not taking care of. After two doses of the medicine, his school called me. He was curled up in the corner of his classroom bawling like a baby chanting that "they were coming to get him". It was horrid. Luckily, after the medicine wore off there were no side affects. It was not the drug for him.

I have been on Buspirone HCI Oral since January of 2015. Dosage, one 10 mg tablet 3 times a day. My husband has PTSD also our Son-in-Law's cousin is living with us who is 3rd Bio-Polar. I have been on Zoloft for the past 8 years because of the above reason.
