I have been taking this medication for almost 8 years for anxiety issues. It has been extremely helpful for me. Very recently I was experiencing a bit of anxiety for the first time in many years, so my dosage was increased from 7.5 mg 2X/day to 10 mg 2X/day. The increased dosage has eliminated the anxiety attacks. I see that a lot of people review this medication after only being on it for les...

Noticed that the limited amount of side effects was a plus.

On Buspar for about 7-1/2 weeks at 15 mg/day (reduced from 20 mg/day due to excessive side effects). Side effects (most intermittent): brain "zap," extreme fatigue, jitters, tremors, muscle spasm, insomnia, brain fog. Anxiety has not decreased & feelings of worry & agitation seem to have worsened. Tapering off at this time & will try something new.

I just got off of it and it me REALLY messed up... like forgetting, getting EXTREMELY tired about a half hour after taking, irritation, angry sometimes, more anxiety attacks... it was bad.... I tried to stick through it, but after 4 or 5 months on it, not successful and way too difficult to cope with!

This worked well in the beginnig, but after a couple months it stopped being effective. The meds just aren't strong enough, I was up to 60-70mg daily. DR switched meds, thank god!

I have GAD and depression. I was given Wellbutrin which was working well for the depression, but it made my anxiety worse. I was then prescribed BuSpar for the anxiety. The first couple of weeks my anxiety was even worse. I was dizzy and nauseous and actually considered switching medications. I had to take ativan as needed the first two weeks of starting BuSpar. Somewhere towards the end of the second week I noticed I was in a very good mood and there were no more anxiety attacks. I feel very calm now and I do not experience any side effects other than a mild dizziness for an hour after taking the medication. The only thing I don't like is that this does not come in a once-a-day extended release form. It's a bit of a pain to take it twice a day, but I am VERY satisfied with the results. I've been taking buspirone for more than a year now. It is truly the best drug I've found to treat my depression & anxiety disorder. Previously, I was treated with SSRI medications and they never helped. The only draw back of buspirone is side effects: dizziness, nausea, sweating. However, I've found that the side effects are short lived and I am usually not bothered by them for more than 5 to 10 minutes.
