I have been taking this medication for almost 8 years for anxiety issues. It has been extremely helpful for me. Very recently I was experiencing a bit of anxiety for the first time in many years, so my dosage was increased from 7.5 mg 2X/day to 10 mg 2X/day. The increased dosage has eliminated the anxiety attacks. I see that a lot of people review this medication after only being on it for les...

I started taking Buspirone about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I take 5mg, two times a day. I was very worried about the side effects, because I had tried taking a SSRI in the past and had TERRIBLE anxiety, but I am pleased to report that I had no major side effects, just a touch of dizziness that started about 20 minutes after taking it. It lasted about 15 minutes- so I'd have to time when I would take the med so I wouldn't have to drive shortly after. I actually started to feel the effects after a few days, and I felt more calm and relaxed. My husband actually noticed the difference as well too. Well, I had a particular stressful day today, and had to take an additional zanax with my buspirone dosage, but I still think it's worth giving a try. It's non habit forming, and the side effects were virtually non-existant.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this drug for a few days and have noticed a difference already. The only side effects I have had so far are dizziness and my body feeling tingly. But that goes away after a about a hour. I have had anxiety and felt hopeless about it for about 10 years. I tried paxil and had bad suicidal thoughts with that. I am really hoping this drug continues to work.

Started at 30mg, went to 15 now at 7.5. First week I would literally get stoned for about an hour. This has passed. At the higher dose I got too relaxed. Didn't worry about anything and didn't want to work. I am finding the right dose to keep major anxiety away. Also take Lexapro. All of these drugs affect everyone different. Drugs I tried before that made me suicidal have worked for many others. It is finding the right drug that works for you and your system. I am 45 and have tried many things. I am now happy and calm. Good luck everyone.Read More Read Less

Slight disphasia (numb & tingling) in the legs, arms, and face when chaning attitude (from sitting to standing or laying). Otherwise it takes the edge off the anxiety. No effect to appitite or diet, it's a little easier to fall asleep but I'm not narcoleptic like on some other anxiolytics.

I have been on this medication for 2 weeks, and stopped taking it yesterday due to all the side effects. I was prescribed this medication at 10mg a day, three times a day along with Pristiq. I get horrible headaches 10 minutes after taking the first dose, Nashua, dizziness, lightheaded, tingling in the tip of my right thumb sensitivity to lights, noises and feel anxious and like I'm living in chaos! These stay with me all day and just worsen as I take my second and third dose. I also had trouble sleeping even when taking my 10mg Ambien at night. Even today after taking myself off of this medication, I still feel some of the side effects from my last dose taken yesterday morning. Still feeling a little agitated and dizzy, but it has lessened as the day has gone on. I have never had horrible anxiety until I started this medication. I used to take Ativan .5mg as needed ( one pill, once or twice a month ) but have needed it daily since the start of Buspirone. For me, this medication has just made my anxiety worse and left me with horrible side effects. Read More Read Less

I have severe anxiety and took Valium and it worked but because of it's addictiveness, my doc switched me to buspirone, i have been taking it for 4 weeks now and it makes me extremely nauseous and dizzy from day 1 for bout an hour and then i feel calm, also have started having trouble sleeping, nightmares and sleep paralysis which i never had before taking this drug. Completely not satisfied.

I have ADHD, impulsive, quick to respond and some anxiety. I have tried a litany of different meds. I have been on Wellbutrin for over a decade and will continue to do so. This helps me with focus, concentraton, etc. The Buspirone was introduced two months ago. There has been a definite improvement in my impulsiveness and ability to stay in a conversation without interupting. I am still working through the right dose. I got as high as 50 mg a day, but that left me a little "rushy". I am down to 40 mg, but think it is a little low. I am now trying 45 mg for the next few weeks. If that is not enough, I will go back to 50 mg. The side effects for me have been the drop in energy about 45 minutes after I take the morning dose (split between 8am and 6pm). Sometimes, this dropo in energy can be really intense, but I know that it will pass within an hour (sometimes 1/2 hour). I also sweat sometimes when this hits. I am also experimenting with taking a smaller dose in the am and larger in the pm. I do have sleeping problems so want to watch how this will affect sleeping.Read More Read Less

The first two weeks being on buspirone 10 mg (once at night & once in the morning) I felt great.. then about the 3rd week I noticed my appetite loss was back & my depression was wanting to still linger.. although its nothing like it was I do like this buspar. I'm giving it a full month before I consider uping the dose.. my energy is NOTHING like it used to be & I miss it but I'd rather be relaxed and happy then energetic and crazy lol. It does help me to sleep for all you saying it knocks you out.. try taking a small dose in the mornings & the full dose at night. I take both full doses night and morning.. I'm used to the side effects.. I think how ever the anxiety people are feeling with the drug is trying to "fight" through the calming effect it gives you during a time when you need or want to be alert, so relax and just roll with it. Don't think about it too much. Good luck everyone.. anxiety and depression sucks, but medicine has come a long way so put some trust in it. (side effect: slight irritability lasting about 30 mins, slight depression & slight anxiety off and on)Read More Read Less

So far i have been taking this medication for a little over a week and I do not have all the icky side effects like i had with all the other medication i have tried. The only thing that i do not like is about an hour after i take it i get really dizzy almost to the oint that i cant stand up without holing on to something for balance. But after that passes i feel great i feel calm and not so jittery and anxious. Over all im pretty happy so far with the effectiness lets hope the dizziness is just a beginning side affect that goes away over time.Read More Read Less

I've been on Buspirone for almost a month now(tomorrow is a month). I was so excited to learn there was an option out there other than a SSRI, as I have tried 10+ medications over the last 15yrs and always have severe side effects. I learned very quickly that I can not take this at night though. It kept me up the entire night. I've also learned to only take it with food and when I do not have to drive for a good hour. It makes me very dizzy/lightheaded. I feel like I have lead weights in my legs. I take 10mg in the am but for a good hour and a half, I'm dizzy. It does seem to help my anxiety(I went to a crowded grocery store after work and it didn't even phase me, which is very rare!) but I'm beginning to wonder about the dizziness. Fingers crossed it goes away...Read More Read Less

I have had bouts of depression that seemed to be triggered by anxioty. I started Buspirone about 6 weeks ago. For the first time in a very long time, I have had a consistantly good mood. I also take Nortriptyline but that doesn't seem to work by itself.
