After having taken Maxalt 10mg for over 8 years, my insurance company decided that I should start taking a generic. The patient info sheet listed a lot of ingredients that I do not eat or am not normally exposed to. I had no choice but try the generic. I had a difficult time opening the wrapper with a migraine. Once open the pill did not immediately dissolve. I had to take a teaspoon of water in m...
I take the meds and they kick in about 30 mins later. I then go to bed, and when I wake up the meds have completely reserved my migraine.

I have chronic migraines inherited by my mom and I've had to take advil migraine every time I had one since freshman year of highschool, but I can't bring that to school, and those pills are always so hard for me to swallow, since I'm not good at taking pills. Advil was never guaranteed to work for me when I did get migraines, I have to take two in order for there to be a chance of it working. When I finally went to the doctor for my migraines at 17, they prescribed rizatriptan dissolving tablets, along with a small dose of amitriptylin to take before bed every night to help prevent migraines. Instead of having to suffer terrible migraines a few times a week, they were dulled down from the daily medicine, and completely stopped when I take the rizatriptan. Thankfully I can bring the rizatriptan to school for when I need to use it, and so far, it has helped tons. It messes with my focus a bit, but it's better than not being focused on school at all when I have a killer migraine. Plus, the tablets are flavored peppermint thankfully, so it doesn't have a bad taste when it dissolves, and it kicks in anywhere between 30 minutes to a couple hours depending on what or if I ate. This is the only medicine that has guaranteed to stop a migraine when it starts.Read More Read Less

While using this medication, I have also been taking another medicine to counteract the nausea I get from taking Rizatriptan. While this medicine does help relieve my migraines, it causes more nausea than I had before taking the medicine. It is somewhat frustrating to take a medicine that is supposed to relive the migraine and its side effects yet it causes more nausea for me.

I'm a 33-year-old female that suffers with hormonal migraines every 25 days. Since high school i use to take Advil or Excedrin and sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't, but the headache would be constant for 4-5 days with watery eyes, light sensitivity, just horrible pain. This drug works !!! i take half of my 5mg pill and that does the trick 99% of the time. Unfortunately, I am in the process of stopping the medication due to the side effects. At first it was tingling in my hands and feet (extreme) than i would wake up in the middle of the night and my arms would feel so heavy and "asleep" also my anxiety has spiked up, but what's really made it bad is the sudden back pain. I am a very healthy 33 year old, no prior health problems AT ALL. So going from just suffering migraines to now dealing with 5+ side effects is not worth it FOR ME. I will be going back to my Excedrin and hope for the best. Many people have found relief with zero to little side effects and thank God for that but I can't be freaking myself out all the time with new side effects. Does it work, absolutely, and very fast. I've had migraines for years. No over the counter meds would work. The doc prescribed this for me and it works 100% of the time. It gives me a bit of a weird feeling. Difficult to explain the feeling but it's not bad. I get extremely tired and would never drive after taking it. Often end up sleeping after taking it. The really odd thing to me is that when the migraine comes on, it starts on one side of my head and spreads across to the other side, and after I take this it goes away in the reverse. It's like I can feel it leaving.Read More Read Less

I have super bad migraines, really bad auras too, and super nauseous. I’ve been taking this for a year probably now and it does nothing. I’ll take one as soon as I feel any sign of a migraine and it just doesn’t help. Not to mention if I’m in the middle of an attack and I can’t open the pill. It makes me feel weird too, like my jaw feels weird, kind of make my headache worse, and feel dizzy or weak.

I have had migraines my whole life but never taken medication before. I recently got in with a new doctor who prescribed me this and it has worked for me 100% of the time! I get a weird achey jaw and get a bit drowsy and weak sometimes but it’s worth it to me. I have never had this not work and have never had to take a second pill! Sometimes it works in 20 min and sometimes it can take an hour, not sure why but either way I would definitely recommend this to any other migraine sufferers.

I suffer migraines even when the wearher changes. I use to take imatrex pills, I think 60 mg, they worked, but were expensive even with insurance. Another doctor Had me try rizatriptan 10 mg, and they work just as good for me. let them dissolve on tonge. Don't drink or eat for at least 25 minutes. I keep them on me all the time. My migraines before there was anything lasted for days! I would end up throwing up from pain and fatigue. Those days are over.

I have suffered from migraines for years. I took my first pill ,(rizatriptan) today and I can't believe how well it worked! It did make me drowsy a little bit I had an hour nap and I felt like a million bucks. I have not felt this good in so long I am so pleased.

Overall, it's been a positive experience. This has to be taken early in the attack to work quickly. If taken later than an hour into the attack, it usually takes a few hours for me to get any relief. The packaging isn't great, it's hard to open when I'm in the middle of an attack, and it doesn't dissolve quickly nor have a great flavor at all (it kinda makes me gag), but anything to help these debilitating attacks! Side effects have been mild, mostly lethargy and some brain fog, but compared to a migraine, I'd gladly take these over intense pain and nausea!Read More Read Less

I, like others, have had migraines almost all my life. I have astrocytoma (last surgery was stage 3). I took maxalt before the rizatriptan and it worked. My neurosurgeon (before he retired) never allowed me to take generic medicine. He stated there is a difference between generic and regular medicine. Generics often have different "fillers" than regular meds. Some folks may be allergic!

It is really difficult for me to open the package when I have migraine, I don't the like the fact that I have to let it disintegrate in my tongue, and I don't like the flavor. But thankfully takes the pain away in about 15 to 30 minutes. I have to take this medication due to hormonal migraine.

I have taken this medicine for 3 weeks, I have had botox, I have had a lumbar puncture, and next I am going to see an Ophthalmologist, He is going to check and see how much pressure I have behind my eyes. At 1st they thought I had a smalle stroke, then they said I had matter on the brain. Now I have 3 different kinds of migraines. I want to say thank you to the people who said that you let it dissolve in your mouth I have been swallowing it maybe that's why hasn't done any good. I just now let it dissolve on my tongue. I will let you know how that works. ?? Read More Read Less

This medication sucks. It did nothing for me. It was like taking air. Made me tired though. And I was so looking forward to a medication that would take away my migraine pain. Not happy!

I have had migraine since I was a child and nothing worked although over the years I reduced the frquency by changes to diet and lifestyle. Migraine ruined my life! About 10 years ago read about triptans and asked my doctor to prescribe Maxalt and it worked! I take one and 20 minutes later I feel better! Its best to rest for a while as one can feel a bit lightheaded/tired but its part of the recovery from migraine. They work best if taken very early on in my case when I start getting a pain in a certain part of my left head, sometimes I have found that a 5mg dose is enough. They wont work if you are at the vomtting stage which has only happened to me once. Some forms of rizatriptan are not so good as they contain aspartame which may be a trigger for migraine in some people and peppermint flavouring.I was given these by the chemist one time as my prescription just said rizatriptan so now I get the doc to specify Maxalt tablets which have no flavourings. so check the ingredients before getting a prescription as Maxalt may not be available everywhere but there will be similar products.Read More Read Less

It takes 1 hour to work and doesn't completely relieve the symptoms. I still have mild pain in the head and neck. I get very lethargic afterwards and have to lie down. I do occasionally have rebound headaches. I have an appointment scheduled with my Neurologist to discuss the above.

After taking one pill it takes an hour to an hour and a half to work. They help me a lot but do not work for my daughter. Everyone is different. Definitely worth trying.

This definitely works, however they are still expensive in Australia so tend to take them if Nurofen/panadol isn't working. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and take them at work with only slight drowsiness, not enough to stop me working or driving.
