This medication was very easy to administer. It was worth taking because it worked BUT the side effects were BAD. I had very bad anemia that started shortly after starting treatment. I had to begin treatment for the anemia and stay on it until a month after I stopped taking interferon. Due to the anemia I also had tachycardia with even the mildest exertion. Walking more than 50 - 75 feet would result in my heart rate going up to 140 - 150. I also had serious GI problems. The worst was recurrent diarrhea that caused me to lose about 50 lbs during treatment. Fortunately I'm a big guy & was overweight before I started so I ended up close to my ideal weight. I'd go through it again if I had to but I'm sure glad my Hep C was cured because the treatment was the worst thing I have ever endured. Still, it was worth it.Read More Read Less

sick from first week, by week 3 was better.week 5 Iswelling on one side of face contacted my Dr. he took me off the meds immediately. I ask what was our next step he said there was nothing else he could do and that I would get cirrosis.I would not accept this because 6 weeks later I had the swelling so I made my PCP refure me to an allergist, she also thinks it's not a reaction I contacted the company the makes the pegasys they sent it to my allergist and I'll take my test on the 30th,she also is going to put me in the hospital and do a desentisation. I think anyone who has a reaction should have the allergy testand if a doctor tells you there's nothing he can do go to work yourself the answer is out thereRead More Read Less

the first week and a half was a piece of cake! Getting into the 3rd week is when I really started get sick from rashes, boles, major headaches, could'nt sleep what so ever. ended up in the hospital with a 103.8 temp. Because your skin dries out so bad (and I was putting mositerizers on all the time) it plugs up you hair particle pore so my body is very infected but not with Hep C. I am now taking a very strong antibiotic and have three days left of taking and its barely starting to work. If you aregetting ready to do this treatment don't just listen to what your doctor or care nurse have to say but do your own research and dig deep because they do not know all the side affects. So be smart and not dumb like me and find out everything your can before you start. Yes, it is a very rough ride and don't be like me and do it alone (its pure "HELL") its best if you have someone close to you to help you get thou this. Goodn luck to all of you.Read More Read Less

The initials side effect these meds are tough to handle and you many have multiple side effects to deal with. The average time for the side effects to ease off is anywhere from 6-12 wks. Although these side effects are difficult to handle, the end result is worth it....you can take it or end up dying from the alternative.

After experiencing various side effects--hair loss, extreme fatigue, --most of the side effects listed for this drug, I got a ruff surfaced, very itchy rash all over--the Dr. took me off this drug & the Ribasphere I was taking. At this point I think the cure (which I was told probably wouldn't work for me) is worse than the disease! This is the second round of Interfiron for me and neither one did anything but make me extremely sick every day I was on it. It's going to be hard for anyone to talk me into another round of this.Read More Read Less

A Doctor at the Borland Groover clinic told me I needed this treatment as it would help lower my viral load, all my hair fell out, the side effects were not fully discussed with me, chtonic fatique set in, depression, went to another doctor same building to be told she would not have put me through the treatment as is was unneccesary for my levels. Get a second opinion before using this drug-it is NOT a miracle by any means and causes more damage than effective.

This is my second attempt dealing with Hep C. I have been using Pegasus for three months as a maintainance program without riboviron and 135mcg per week .Viral load is now none detectable. Support from Pegasus has been top notch and informative. Hang in there and don't give up. Pace yourself and don't give up. When you think you want to give up, don't. You'll make it through this. You have to.

I discovered that I had Hep C, Genotype 1 in October 2008. I've been taking Pegasys and Ribavirin since November. With genotype 1, the odds of the meds working were against me. Plus, my blood platelets seemed to stay low. However, I responded well and my viral load has been negative since around February or March. The side effects have been hard. I endure constant fatigue, weakness, and ache in my shoulders. Since I've been on it so long, I do have some good days. However, I never know which days will be good and which will be bad. I know this sounds scary, but I will say this...I don't regret starting the medication. I only wish I could've started it sooner. If you are reading this, don't let the side effects scare you away. I'm almost finished with my treatment, and I don't regret a moment of it. This year of irritation and side effects is well worth a life not dealing with Hep C.Read More Read Less

I was shocked to see that I did not go through any side effects at all - but for(1) some food lost it's appeal to me. Been on Pegasys 188cc for 4 months and it is working great for me I was real sick prior to starting this treatment, and I am happy for doing so. I do take vitamins & folic acid also. My only concern is my CBC, my platlets and WBC are still very low but that was always a problem prior to my treatment. I am trying to stave off a liver transplant and so far it seems to be working!
