After reading many reviews about the terrible burning and cost of this medication I thought I would share some tips. I was lucky to have a very well informed eye doctor and staff. They told me to use the holder in the starter kit-refrigerate the vials so they burn much less-open the vial, use in AM-place opened vial in the holder-which holds it upright-back in the refrigerator to use again in PM. ...
I was prescribed this but could only stand to use it for 2 weeks. It makes my eyes feel so much drier and very gritty. The solution, in this case, is worse than the problem. I couldn't try it long enough to see if it would eventually be effective. A side note - those who say that the eye drops impact your immune system please note that this is likely not true. The amount of drop that enters you...
These made my eyes itch and red. I used for 30 days and stopped I’ve never had red scleras until I used this medication

Has anyone found a change in the oiliness of Restasis vial drops, other than myself?
It has changed to “water like” other than the oily excipient it had almost a year ago.
I am a caregiver and a patient as well.

Since starting Restatsis, I have developed a feeling of fullness in my ears and headaches. I went to my ENT last week and she said my ears look normal. I did find under less common and more serious side effects, that ear congestion can occur. Has anyone experienced this?

This helped my dry eyes, I was tired of taking otc drops which did not help. BUT the drops lead to me having eye migraines which were never an issue I had before. I was told to stop taking Restasis ( I was about 2 weeks in) and the problem went away after 2 weeks or so. I did not have them daily but weekly and it was scary because it could happen at any time, even driving. It was helping my dry eyes but caused this problem. The pharmacy and eye doc told me this was not a side effect, yet it was for me. I was sad to stop taking it but the problem went away so I knew it was from this.
I am back on Thera Tears but glad to say the eye migraines are gone.Read More Read Less

I had cataract surgery on both eyes 5/3/23 (right eye) and 5/23 (left eye). Everything looks fine with the exception of dry eyes. Continued to us OTC Refresh Tears. on my last post-surgery evaluation on 8/4 the Dr prescribed Restasis. The Restasis was not immediately available. Got medicine on 8/14 and used it for the first time at about 10 PM that night. I experienced blurry vision (which instruction say was normal). 1 hour after application, I experienced intermittent flashing on my left eye. Called my doctor the next day 8/15/23 and was scheduled for evaluation 8/16/23. At this time the flashing disappeared but has a light grayish threadlike floater. Dr said there are no issues with my eyes. Gave me the option to stop using it and use products OTC. Question still lingering in my mind is, 2 months since my cataract surgery I was perfectly normal and now all of a sudden, my left eye is having issues (floaters, watery eye and a feeling of foreign object in my eye) after using Restasis.Read More Read Less

I was having a lot of issues the first 2 weeks . My eyes hurt burning feeling like I had sand in my eyes . I asked pharmacist and she said talk to dr. I let It go and it’s week 3 and seems little better. I am seeing better now. Still not where I would like to be but dr says it takes at least 6 weeks. I have had sever dr eyes prior to this using steroids, gel ,ointment. My dr has me using Restasis in the steroids together still and lubricant drops. I’m gonna give it a good try before I give up.

After only one month, my eyes are not watering nearly as much. I also find that the puffiness under my eyes has gone away and the drooping in one of my eyes has gone away also. I'm very happy with restasis.

I have been using the vials of Restasis successfully for many years. About eight months ago I thought I had a bad batch of Restasis. I developed superficial keratitis. The doctor gave me new vials to try and my eyes seemed to get better. Now I am starting to experience the same beginning symptoms I had before, burning, pain, eyes watering, feeling like something is in my eye, etc. It seems as though Restasis is no longer effective for me.

I started using this product in June of 2022. I had some skin reactions to it at first (dry skin, flaking and strange bumps on my face). Also, an itchy rash on my chest. My dry eye was bad, so I stuck it out for the four months. It did start to get remarkably better just after the four month mark. The side effects went away. The chest rash hung on the longest but is gone now. I keep my drops in the refrigerator and use the vials more than once. One prescription lasted me from June 14 to December 6. I wash my hands and am very careful not to touch the tip. I almost gave up, but if you stick with it, it should help.Read More Read Less

Was prescribed Restasis for very dry eyes. Started 4 days ago. Have done nothing differently, diet is the same. Have had diarrhea for 4 days now. Husband is a pharmacist, says Restasis could be the reason. Although none of the listed side effects mention GI issues. Oddly though the drops do get in your system so it could mess things up. My eye doc says it could take up to 6 weeks for the drops to start really helping the dry eye, but I stopped the drops this morning. Hoping my GI issues clear up. After reading all the bad reviews it sounds like people have lots of other issues. Too bad, I was hoping to continue using Restasis. Read More Read Less

My eye dr prescribed restasis for dry eyes. Thank goodness I only used it 5 days. I have been miserable every since starting it. My eyes hurt constantly. My vision is very poor now. I have been nauseous for 3 days. I thought I was having a heart attack but now realize it is from the restasis. This drug needs to be taken off the market. I am telling my dr but I know she won’t listen. It really makes me wonder if they get some kind of kick back from the company.

After literally (eyes) burning out from Xiidra, my eye specialist prescribed Restasis. Xiidra was torture for my already inflamed eyes, so I tried the prescribed Restasis. OMG. More burning and eye irritation here, but slightly better than Xiidra - which was pure torture to my poor eyes!
I am a professional pharmaceutical consultant, but I haven’t yet found a therapeutic relief for my severe dry eye.
Next, I am trying “eye moisture chambers,” available online; and Cetus. Good luck.

The application is extremely difficult. The bottle is impossible for arthritic hands to squeeze out. I ended up wasting 25% from the 3 bottles I tried and will not be renewing the Rx. I did not notice any improvement in my extreme dry eye issue. Very frustrating.

I used Restasis for 15 days. Initially I experienced burning and redness in my eyes, but as the days passed the side effects increased. By day 10 I was experiencing substantial pain in the joints of my knees, hips, shoulders, and elbows. By day 12 I began experiencing pain in my lower back and right side. On day 14 I could not stand up and stayed in bed all day due to the excruciating pain in my lower back and side. On day 15 I started researching side effects and quit taking this drug. In addition to these symptoms I also experienced diarrhea, severe dry mouth, bags under my eyes, darkened urine, a stabbing pain in my right ear, heart palpitations, elevated blood pressure, heavy sinus congestion and a feeling of smothering when I was lying down due to substantial mucus buildup in my sinus cavities and throat. During this time the only thing in my life that had changed was starting the use of Restasis. I read the Restasis literature for side effects and realized that some of my symptoms fell under the 'contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms' category. I called my eye doctor on day 15 to report what I was experiencing and was told that none of my symptoms were related to Restasis (despite my assertion that they are listed in Restasis' own side-effects literature). Today is day 19. After being off of Restasis for 4 days the pain in my lower back and right side has diminished only slightly. I am able to walk with assistance. Joint pain is still present, as are the sinus problems, diarrhea, and a slightly lessened occurrence of heart palpitations. After reading pages and pages of self-reported very similar side effects of this drug, with symptoms resolving after discontinuing use, it is my hope that within a week without using Restasis my symptoms will dissipate. It is my absolute belief that all of my symptoms described above are attributable to my use of Restasis.Read More Read Less

You need to at least put this in a bottle and not a vial. The vial is hard to use and I lose drops. It is to expensive to have such a cheap container that can hurt your eye. It seems more drops are wasted than used. I can't afford to toss this out, but will not be using it again when this runs out. Very disappointed!
