I am only on my second day for alcohol and food cravings, so can't judge it long term so far no cravings. My biggest surprise was that I have chronic joint pain due to arthritis and take motrin like crazy. The past 2 days minimal pain no need for even Tylenol. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Got deathly sick from too much scotch about 10yrs ago, never poured another glass. Instead it would be only wine and beer. I have a very active lifestyle and eat healthily at home, but then I realized I was drinking beer every night. Started as a few, went to a six, on Monday I had 10. 10-14 was my new normal. Heard about the Sinclair method on TED Talks. Forgot about it until yesterday when I had a doctors appt. I asked him to prescribe it and he did. Yesterday (Valentine's Day) was day one. I took the pill at 3:30 thinking I'll probably start my usual drinking routine at 5. Instead I ended up going for a three-hour bike ride and didn't get home till 6:30. Cleaned up, got comfortable and opened a beer. It was nearly 7PM. First one I noticed a change in my taste buds and the obsessions seemed to be quieted, but had a second and a third and a fourth ... uh oh.. am I one of the few people who doesn't respond? Please let it not be so. Went back and read Sinclair and he says take it one hour before. Today, I took it at 4 and then opened a beer an hour later. I just threw the other half of that first beer in the sink. It's 9PM. No obsession. It's really like a switch was turned off. In addition, I'm also not obsessing about eating or my ex-boyfriend (who I recently had a difficult break-up with). Sorry for rambling but I don't know what to think! I'm so excited but also afraid it won't work tomorrow.. (I'll get over that). Go now and get these pills. Take them ONE HOUR before your first drink... which might just be your last one. Thank you science and psychology and medicine. Go save your life.Read More Read Less

I've tried 3 times to post a review but it doesn't seem to be working. Or I may look later and see all of them. LOL! So I'll stop now.

What in the WORLD is going on, here? After 12 years of drinking virtually every day (moderate to extreme amounts) and desperately wanting to quit, I finally made it in to see my GP. I am the worlds most sinister alcoholic. No DUI, no legal problems, generally stayed out of embarrassing situations, successful professional and a complete and total drunk. Drink in the mornings, throughout the day and when night came it was almost always 'full tilt.' In a matter of less than 24 hours my life has been completely transformed. I am on the verge of a deep depression - not because this isn't a miracle drug - but because I didn't reach out sooner. I took my first pill while drinking - celebrating (hopefully) quitting and within 30 minutes I had ZERO desire to continue. Woke up hung over this morning, PERFECT - almost necessary/mandatory - 'Hair of the Dog' morning and I have absolutely no cravings whatsoever. The only time alcohol has crossed my mind today is the constant monitoring of when the cravings would return. There are none. Zero. In fact, the thought of drinking tonight elicits a 'yuck' response. This is unprecedented. I have had anxiety today, zero appetite, 'brick in stomach' feeling and some general weird 'heady' feeling, but I have also had a general sense of peace. The anxiousness has almost felt physical. I think I might be in slight denial some of this is withdrawal symptoms, not the medication side effects. I cannot believe how I feel at the moment: a complete and utter indifference towards the thing/monster that has plagued me these years. It's unbelievable. I hope and pray this doesn't end and continues to work for me. I will definitely report back in the coming weeks. Read More Read Less

I haven't taken naltrexone very long, a few days.I'm hoping to see results soon. I'm writing because of the reviews I've read. My doctor told me to take my pill at bedtime. this should help with some of the tiredness and confusion that has been a thread in many of these reviews. Also when you first stop drinking or drugging you are not going to feel great for a while. but It's worth it.

I drink (drank) the equivalent of 6-10 beers a night 7 nights a week. I could go 2-3 days alcohol free but no more. I ordered naltrexone online to see if it would help. Felt like crap for several days, very tired, no concentration, etc. Then did some research online and found those are side effects of quitting drinking in general. So its really impossible to know if your side effects are from the drug, or your body adjusting to no alcohol. But bottom line is, for me, I didn't feel like drinking. I don't want to stop drinking all together. I want to socially have a glass of wine or a couple beers with friends. Now I can. Its only been three weeks, but I can go out with friends and have one beer not want more and more. Not sure if that will work for everyone, but its working exactly the way I'd hoped.Read More Read Less

I'm a functioning alcoholic, although I only drink on the weekends and rarely during the week--or at least not heavily. Friday and Saturday, though, are typically blackout nights for me and I almost always combine alcohol with marijuana. I bought some pills online a month ago and after getting drunk on Friday night--5 to 6 beers and a little over half a fifth of vodka--I woke up Saturday with an intense craving for alcohol and had two very strong vodka sodas. After the 2nd I took a 50 MG pill and took my dog out for a walk and breakfast. About 20 minutes an incredible lethargy came over me and I could barely order my meal, let alone finish it. My interest in alcohol was drastically reduced, but I was also extremely tired and out of it. I made it home and for the next two hours was completely out of it...mostly just laid in bed. 4 hours after initially taking the pill I went to a movie with a friend, then dinner. On the outside I was fairly alert and coherent (I think) but on the inside I was jumbled and disoriented...all I wanted to do was get home, although when I was home all I wanted to do was be somewhere else. Zero appetite while at dinner as well, even though I had ate virtually nothing all day. In conclusion I have 28 more pills and will probably crush them up for a smaller dose...I'm hoping a 25 MG dosage will help with my cravings whilst not leaving me totally decimated in terms of thought, initiative and desire. Do any long time users know if smaller doses are still effective? As it did cure my cravings I'd like to keep taking the drug but am not sure I can handle the extreme exhaustion and loss of sense of self I'm currently experiencing.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed Naltrexone after my detox. I am a full blown alcoholic. It has worked great to curb my cravings as I had to quit because I am on antibuse medication. The only side effect is lack of appetite. I lost 15 pounds before I started forcing myself to eat. My pharmacists said this is normal and the drug is prescribed for over eaters as well. I can't take the full dose every night but every other night is working for me.

I was using heroin for almost 3 years and have now been clean for over a year and a half.. Naltrexone worked amazingly for me! I had tried the whole Suboxone thing a while ago, but honestly could still use opiates on that and feel them pretty decently. Also, they are easy to sell and go for a lot of $. So with these having no street value and you can't feel high when taking opiates (so they say), it was a good "insurance" for my sobriety. After spending 7 weeks in jail (got me clean), I had immediately started getting the extended release shot/injection (Vivitrol) once a month for the first few months. That is a great option if you can afford it, since all you have to do is show up for appointment and not worry about a pill every single day (each shot is over $1000). So once I my doctor and I felt comfortable, I made the smooth transition to these generic 50mg pills. I have hardly had any thoughts and actually no cravings. It's been a very good journey this time getting clean and I made it through my court ordered probation without using once! Previously, I had only had a period of sobriety for about 7 months.. and that was on no medications at all and intensive counseling/meetings/treatment. This time around while taking Naltrexone I only did counseling once a week for the first few months and then I have to go in for drug tests for my probation agent. I don't attend meetings because I just don't think they work for me and I meet people who aren't good for me to be around. I have been on these pills for about a year and will probably keep taking them for atleast a few more months. They say there shouldn’t be any effects when stopping them and they don't need to weaned off of (unlike Suboxone). I also have been taking Adderall XR 30mg/day for about 6 months to help my ADD and have seen no negative effects.Read More Read Less

Today is day 2 on neltrexone 50mg and have experienced unbearable migrane, body aches and sore, I feel very weak and walk like a zombie, constipation, upset stomach, tired. Only good thing is no cravings for heroin (which is why I started taken neltrexone) and decrease in appetite ,but I don't know if I can continue this because of the terrible side effects the migrane and body aches. I might break the tablet in half there is a mark on the pill to where I can try taking 25 mg in the morning and 25 mg in the evening .Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this to help with stopping smoking. I have copd. I have been taking it for about a month - .25mg. I haven't seen any benefit from it yet, but maybe the dosage needs to be changed. It has helped with over-eating and I am not so hungry all the time. Hope this helps, I will update if the increase in mg's changes.

My doctor prescribed this med to help me with my binge eating disorder. While I think it is effective I am struggling with side effects. I am suffering from abdominal cramping and restlessness. I fight depression and am in a good place and now I find myself not wanting to get out of bed again and sleeping the day away. I wish I didn't have the side effects because it has helped me curb the binge eating.

After two trips to detox within a month, I finally gave these a try after five years of heavy drinking (1/2 gallon of vodka at first, down to controlling about 6-10 drinks a day). Worked instantly. I took 25 mg on empty stomach, 115 lbs, female. Became dizzy, disoriented; ate a small meal, the dizziness, disorientation muted. Took 25 mg more a few hours later and did not experience same effects. Have taken for a week now and only experienced one intense urge craving which is nothing compared to 24/7 intense urge/cravings. I wish I had known about this sooner. Currently, abstaining, but I hope that if a relapse does come, that this will prevent a serious relapse as I have heard others infer this medication helps to accomplish. If I had known about how effective this was, how this could change my life, I would have began taking it along time ago even before I decided to stop drinking to at least reduce the amount that I was using. One star done for effectiveness only because I experienced one episode of cravings for about an hour and half. Without lasting more than ten minutes of not drinking when a craving hit before, now, I had mental clarity, and was able to make a decision for myself of whether I wanted to take a drink or go run on a treadmill. I chose the treadmill which before never even occurred to me as a plausible option since my cravings were so intense that I could get a drink faster than putting my running outfit on and I always chose the prior. This pill provides me the option to choose, something I never (felt) like I had before.Read More Read Less

I'm a highly functional drunk. Most nights it's from 10-12 beers or equivalent in wine or hard liquor plus I would smoke weed while I drank. Then some nights I just get really drunk and stoned. I would need to drink a 6 pack at night even after a bad hangover that left me couch ridden all day just to get to sleep. Very seldom has drinking stopped me from doing what I needed to get done. I hit the gym to keep in shape and can run a 5K at anytime. I've used this for the last 20 years to justify to myself that my habit wasn't a big problem. . I've not even hit the so-called "rock bottom" circumstances such as getting a DUI or embarrassing myself like those weekend drunks seem to do all the time. Even when I go to parties I wait until after to get my full buzz on. I would never stay too late and never allowed people to stay at my place. Ok, In hind-sight I've come to realize I was still buzzed at work on Monday morning and know people noticed(I asked a close friend this last week out of curiosity) My reasons for quitting was vanity. I just wanted to lose a little weight with my co-workers. Everyone else has been making progress and I realized by my drinking high calorie beer it was not going to happen. I tried to just cut-back to 5 light beers a night but was astonish to realize I couldn't. Maybe that was/is my "rock bottom". So I asked my doctor for help and she prescribed naltrexone. I've been on the meds for a week without any craving at all for booze or weed. However today I got a chance to sleep in and now enjoying all the nausea and exhaustion of a hangover without the trouble of drinking the mass quantities the night before. I could just be worn-out, it was tough week at work. I'll keep at it for now and see where it goes. Besides, I never was a cheap drunk and always smoked medical grade weed (Green Card Carrier) so the saving are an added benefit. Today I'm giving the kids $40 to do my part of the housework and will spend the day reading a book. OverallRead More Read Less
