Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

Fortunately for me, I got advice from a "natural cure physician" before I would even take one medication of Synthroid. After researching the medication, I decided to look at an alternative. I am now taking a supplement for my thyroid rather than a lifetime of Synthroid. People...........there are other alternatives!!!!! I can't wait for my next lab work in a month or so to see if my numbers have changed for the best!!

I am 26 year old woman living in California. I have been on medication for Hypothyroidism for 2 years. For the first year my doctor, as most of the doctors, put me on Synthroid. I did not like this medicine for nothing, because it's three times more expensive than Armour, I was constantly loosing hair (I was lietrally getting bold) and I was very miserable and depressed, and my face was puffy and dull all the time. My doctor would always have to increase dosage and then I got anemia, so he had to put me on iron medication. After one year I was done with Synthroid and I told my doctor I want to try "Armour", because I read so many good things about it. His reply was " If you really want to, but I don't recommend it because it's an old way of treating hypothyroidism". But I insisted, so I've been on Armour for more than 1 year, I FEEL GREAT!!!! My hair are growing back so much, my skin again is healthy and glowing , I am not depressed, simply I got myself back :)I would definitely recommend everyone chose Armour over Synthroid, at least give it a try :) LIKE I DID :) Good luck to everyone!!!Read More Read Less

I have been taking levothyroxine for 25 years. Both my mother and sister had/have an under active thyroid. I take my pill at night so that I can take calcium in the mornings. At one point my TSH levels rose again and I lost hair, but once the medication was regulated again, all was well. Just be sure to have TSH checked once a year.

It took about 7-8 months to find the right dosage, but finally got there. I just found out that Synthroid is no longer Gluten Free. This is of importance to me as I have Celiac disease. Not sure what to do now. I know changing thyroid meds can prove to be a nightmare.
