Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I have been taking Synthroid for 20 years, with doses changed due to blood work and body changes. It must be taken first in the morning before eating or taking any other medication with full glass of water. Wait at least an hour before eating, and eating grapefruit can reduce the effectiveness. I have learned that it is best to be treated by an Endocrinologist, Specialist since family doctors may not notice problems or know what to do. Once a year blood work keeps me well but I do still have some hair loss, fatigue and swelling of ankles when traveling or standing long periods of time. It must be taken at the same time each day, so morning when I awake, empty stomach and no medicine then or for an hour is best. Breakfast but not grapefruit, and then other medicine or vitamins. I can not function without it and serious heart or other health issues will happen if you do not take it if you have a condition requires it. Be your own best advocate, get a good doctor, be ready for changes if needed, eat healthy, exercise and you will do well.Read More Read Less

Since starting this medication I have been in the ER twice in the same week with facial numbness and tremors and irregular heart beat. This medicine made me very sick.

I have been taking synthroid for almost 9 months. My dosage has been changed 3 times; from .50 to .25, then to .50 only 5 days a week and now .115 daily. I have not started the new dosage yet as I am wary of going up that much. I have not talked to the doctor; my last conversation was with his assistant. I basically have 2 questions - does anyone know what more than doubling the dosage will mean in new or worse side effects? And is it true that you should not eat certain foods at all with synthroid or should you just wait 4-5 hours after taking synthroid? Any information is greatly appreciated.Read More Read Less

This medication is very easy to use and has made a tremendous difference. Before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I gained about 40 pounds, was tired all the time, and sex drive plummeted. I noticed changes right away. After almost a year, I’ve had no side effects and my numbers are right back on track.

All comments are helpful but everyone is different. Some are right on with my results so I know I am not crazy. Wish I could figure out what is best. My level are fine so says my GP. I am still tired all the time, naps are helpful but not working full time. Weight gain, concentration, lose of where I put things, depression. I also take a hormone replacement and Zoloft. Is all of that to much??? I wish I knew. I am able to function but some days it is really hard. I needs some help. Anyone know if any of these affect your liver functions?Read More Read Less

I've gained 25 pounds since I've been this medication which has been about 2 years. I haven't lost any hair but do have itchy skin. I started taking it by itself and on an empty stomach and that seemed to help a lot but still have not lost one pound. I eat around 1300 calories a day and work out at least 3 times a week. My doctor seems reluctant to change my dosage or meds. Over all I'm very frustrated!!!

I had graves disease for 4 years, my meds stopped working and my endo told me my only option was a total thyroidectomy so I had it done in April 2013. I was put on synthroid the day after my surgery till current day (6 months). I am feeling tired, exhausted, bad headaches, still have tremors, 25lbs weight gain and am balding. I'm only 24 and have bald spots. I don't know what I am going to do, drs keep telling me to wait it out and be patient but when you start seeing bald spots.. your patience starts running out.Read More Read Less
