Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I had graves and they used radiation pill to kill my thyroid glands and now I have a underactive thyroid. This was done in 1992 and I have had no problems with this drug, It is the doctors that try to change it to the generic drug that I have issues with. I have no thyroid glands, so therefore I cannot use the generic drug.

Itchy, red, bumpy rashes on my legs and now arms. Occassional swelling of legs followed by welts and then hives. Should have looked at WebMD sooner as none of the doctors I saw believed it could be from this drug even at a really low dose.

Had thyroid removed in 1997 and had no problems until I started with menopause. I never had to change dosage until a few years ago. Now I deal with Weight gain, brain fog, vision issues, lost motivation,. I have no idea if it is from being kept in a hypo state (doctor prefers this since I had cancer) or if my issues are from menopause. All's I know is I hate feeling this way, I keep fighting it and make the best of it.

began at 40yo tho problem started around 27 I think. 5 years now t3/t4 levels sometimes low. doc thinks medication strength consistency is to blame. claims batches can be 10-20% off. activity level has increased. still have noticeable effects of low thyroid tho.

Synthroid is made with BROWN DYE which does not agree with me-why do they have to add dye to pills? I normally was on Armour thyroid but all of a sudden in January I got hives from the Armour-so I changed medicines.

Been on medicine for 5 years. First, I went from 168 to 230lbs. Eyes blurred and pressure on right eye. Recently up to a higher dosage that makes me blur minded and as someone stated makes you feel like one is speaking to someone behind a 6" glass. Looking for someone who will be willing to prescribe Armour.

The not satisfied comes from the fact that Synthroid is a BONE DESTRUCTION...DENSITY causing drug. Right dose of Synthroid works as Name Brand well to control Hypothyroidism, it is the Bone Density DRUG INDUCED OP that is the problem. NO WARNINGS WERE ISSUED IN 30 yrs.

Suffered no side effects, but also have had no relief. Still continue to gain weight even with dieting and exercise, continue to have extreme sensitivity to cold, very dry skin, and shortness of breath after only mild exercise.

I've always had an enlarged thyroid - since a teenager. In 1998 I developed nodules-2-3 aspirations, ultra sound - all inconclusive. MD recommendation - possible cancer- I had my thyroid removed in 1998. End result no cancer & now no thyroid (the most vital body part needed) I've been on Syntroid ever since. In the beginning everything seemed fine. I could not for the life of me figure out why my hair was so dry & brittle that you could snap it like a piece of straw. I cannot dye my hair any longer. Now in menopause, I can't think straight, still have dry brittle hair, always tired & out of breath. My thyroid levels are checked annually. I've been in several different mcg's. I am so dissatisfied with Synthroid. I'm naturally thin my pregnancy weight was 150, 31 yrs ago. I am now 151 & very uncomfortable. My colesterol is creeping up - my bp will not stabilize. The constipation is unbearable. I'm stressed out, depressed, hot flashes out of control. Finally I talked to my endocrinologist again and asked to switch my meds to something else. He lowered my Synthroid & put me in T3 to take in conjunction with the lower dose of Synthroid. I can't understand why he lowered the Synthroid but he's the doctor. I hope this combination helps me to feel better. If I had a choice I would take my thyroid back lumps and all at least I would have hair, no depression, energy, good mood, healthy weight and all the good things I used to have. I'm a young 56 - everyone thinks I'm in my 40's. Synthroid is not good for me - I don't know why the dr's keep pushing it. (Big pharmaceutical companies have a lot of clout)Read More Read Less

Was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Had very little noticeable symptoms other than neck tenderness. Started synthroid after monitoring tyroid levels via second blood test in 60 days. No noticeable side effects yet. Will report via followup

I've been taking this for 19yrs Dec 94 my dosage has been changed a few times, couldn't function without it, had one thyroid moved in 2000, the other in 2010. If you have to get 1 removed, make them do both, wish I had, but don't forget to start taking calcium, if you do, major problems without it, but overall this stuff works

I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 20 years ago at 40 years old. Treatment consisted of a complete thyroid removal and iodine radiation therapy. Back then, they took your thyroid levels to 0 before giving the iodine radiation therapy to maximize uptake by any remaining thyroid cells. That was very weird. I would read for 8 hours and only complete 3 or 4 pages! Old people at the park would whizz by me. From my perspective, everything around me was going at breakneck speed. I have been taking synthriod since then. My endocrinology oncologist said not to be surprised if I gain 50 pounds. I have only gained 20 pounds over 20 years: I am grateful to my wife for making healthy, low-fat meals. I have minor problems with dry skin, bad breath, constipation, lack of energy: I’m a dream date! I have tried generics, but my body does not retain them, so I am loyal to synthroid. When the dose gets too high, I have trouble sleeping at night. When the dose is too low, I have (more) trouble concentrating. I would describe my last 20 years as one long rainy Monday. I agree with the reviewer who felt that she was separated by 6 inches of plexiglass from life. On the flip side, I am very pleased to have seen my sons grow into fine young men. All things considered, I am very fortunate. It is really not fair to “blame” the side effects on synthroid: without it I would be comatose. Read More Read Less
