Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I started with 50mcg in October and was re-tested in Feb. and bumped up to 75mcg. The Dr. said it takes about 6 weeks for your body to get accustomed to the med. It does get better after time. Short waves of nervousness/anxiety, but I know that will pass and I'm scheduled to be re-tested next week. :)

I've been on Synthroid (75MCG) for a week and I feel like I am going crazy! Anxiety is horrible...Heart feels like it's going a mile a minute...feel like I could pass out at times...feels like I am on speed...not good. I am having this dosage changed a.s.a.p and so far my impression of this drug is not a good one. I hope it gets better once the dosage gets changed because I can't imagine living like this...I feel like I was better off 2 weeks ago when I didn't even know I had hypothyrodism. Has anyone else experienced those feelings? Will it get better?Read More Read Less

I had the radiation treatment to kill out my thyroids so now I am in hypo stage. I have been on this medication (0.05MG)(50MCG) now for about 3 weeks and I am seeing thinning of my hair and have gained 8 lbs. My fingers and feet are slightly puffy and I am feeling less energy especially when I exercise. I know this is not the right dosage for me.I hope it will level out at some point because I am blowing up to fast.

I have been taking this medication for over 4 months, and have had the dosage changed 4 times and cannot seem to get balanced on it . I have nightly and daily sweating, headaches, swelling of hands and feet, weight gain (30lbs) since I started with this medication, trouble sleeping at night.I am on my 4th dosage of 137 and taking 125 on weekends to see if they can balance me out and get rid of all these side affects I am experiencing.

Have been on 50 mcg for 4 months; TSH levels dramatically improved within first 3 months; still dealing abnormal menstrual periods[somewhat continuous bleeding]; no weight problems; no loss of hair; slight increase of energy; slight increase of dull headaches which start in the middle of the night. Overall, results have been positive. Negatively, without insurance, I have to pay out-of-pocket and the price increased this month[March 2008] by $3.99 for a month supply. I'm getting used to taking it each morning at 6 A.M. with at least 9 oz. of water on an empty stomach. I wait at least 30 min. before eating.Read More Read Less

Have been on this medication the sum total of two days, so I have no pertinent info to report. However, in reading the first 40 reviews posted on this website, I could find only 2 males using this med. Is this med more commonly prescribed for females, or are the males hesitant to report such?

I was experiencing what I thought to be signs of depression or seasonal affective disorder (I live in Alaska, so that is common). But then my neck swelled up like an African bullfrog. It was inhibiting my vocal functions, and I was unable to sleep without my airline pillow because if I turned my head, I was unable to breathe. All of my levels are normal. I've only been taking this medication for a week, but today I feel absolutely drunk! This is why I came to webMD to research the side effects. I have noticed a significant decrease in the size of my thyroid already, and I can now sleep without my airline pillow. My doctor says I will lose weight, but many of the reviews seem to indicate that I should expect to GAIN weight...I'd almost rather look like an African bullfrog. It has definitely affected my appetite, but it seems that I mostly don't want to eat durring the day, but later in the day (maybe as the medication gets to the lower levels approaching the next dose) I want to eat everything in the house! I have noticed an increase in my energy levels, but I also feel almost bi-polar. One minute I can hardly keep my eyes open and I want to cry, and the next minute I'm shaking like crazy and I want to run a marathon. I'm hoping that as the medication kicks in it will even itself out and I will start to feel normal again....this drunk thing isn't working for me...But I guess I'll just have to wait and see. The reviews here seem to be rather mixed. Read More Read Less

I just got started on a new regimen of Synthroid 125...my hypothyroidism cannot seem to stablize. I hope this strength will do the trick. Is this a strong dosage? Thank you for all your information.

I feel like I have a fever all the time from the neck up only and my feet are cold. I have no energy after two in the afternoon. I am in the process of getting this drug regulated, I think. According to the doctor, my counts are where they need to be. I have another appointment this week for blood work. My appetite is good-to good. I have gained some weight (15 lbs) but I feel that has more to do with the low energy level than over eating. If I had energy I would go back to the gym but at the end of the day I am wiped out. I am also in remission for hodgkins disease so maybe that makes me a special case. Maybe the side effects have nothing to do with the drug at all and it is just the post symptoms of the thyroidectomyRead More Read Less

I had anxiety attacks when I was taking synthroid. I have no insurance and am broke so have put off renewing the prescription, (can't renew without a 70.00$ office visit and expensive blood test). However in the process of refraining from the drug the anxiety went away. Ill soon have to take something for the hypothyroid however.
