Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I have lyme and didn't trust the low reading but took the drug anyway. Made me hyper and edgy and 'out of control' after only 2 weeks. Do not recommend

Within 2 weeks I had insomnia, shortness of breath, palpitations, and headache. Even cutting dose to 25 mcg (from 50 mcg) had the same effect.

I had my thyroid removed in 2004 due to cancerous nodules. Was on Synthroid for 2 years with not many problems. now taking the generic for the last 3 yrs. Have many of the symptoms as everyone else. My main problem is fullness in my throat and when voicing my complaints, on exam could not find a reason for this condition. Well, it seems that even though my blood work was not elevated, and my doseage stayed the same until recently when it was decreased from .125, then to 100 and the down to .88 and all of a sudden the fullness seemed to decrease. I was really scared that I had a serious problem and i now, on my own, realize it was caused by the higher doses of the med.. I have insomia, leg cramps, and some weight gain, and was never told these were side effects. It is now 2 a.m. and still cant sleep. Good luck to all and I think this condition is a life long experience.Read More Read Less

I have been taking synthroid for about 6 months and did find an increase in my energy level. The past two months the pharmacy gave me the generic drug for sythroid and I have noticed swelling in my hands and feet as well as constant dry mouth. My energy level seems to be getting lower as well.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was only 6 weeks old and have been taking my synthroid ever since (I'll be 28 in August). It will take awhile to get into your bloodstream to where you can feel a difference but I can't imagine my life without it. I've been bad a few times and not taken it for a few months and right away I can feel the effects of not taking it. I get tired easy, I gain weight, I get really bad leg cramps. It's just awful, I don't know why I put myself through that but I don't do it anymore. If you are diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, be patient and work with you Dr. to get the best dose for you. Believe me, you'll thank yourself for it in the long run.Read More Read Less

I have not taken it yet. I am actually asymptomatic. I just started with a new doctor and a blood test was run and the results were that I'm what used to be considered borderline hypothyroid. So the doctor is recommending that I start this, I put it off so far because I don't know if I should start a permanent medicine when I am asymptomatic. After reading some of these other comments, I'm not sure if I should even go back to the doctor. I'm not on any other medications, except the occasional aspirin. Has this happened to anyone else - where a medicine is being recommended when one doesn't even have symptoms?Read More Read Less

I think a good endocrinologist is hard to find. Your levels may be within a “normal” range, but you still might not feel well. Synthroid is supposed to stop you from gaining weight, etc. by supplementing your thyroid. Work with your doctor and don’t let it go until you feel better. If that doesn’t work, find a different doctor. Having said that, remember Synthroid takes a while to work itself into the body. It’s not like other medication that takes a half hour to work. That’s why it takes so long to get the right dose. Sometimes it has taken me almost two months to feel the increase/decrease in levels. But it works!Read More Read Less

My endocrinologist put me on 50mg of synthroid and my face turned into a raspberry, red and very ithchy. Somehow, my family doctor along with the endocrinologist do not believe that the cause of my rash and itchiness is the synthroid!! go figure.

Have taken over 10 yrs. Had non-cancer goiter removed w/half my throid. Still have some symptoms; sometimes wonder if allergic reaction to the medication(shortness of breath); have developed hypertension, leg aches, trouble sleeping and weight gain. I can't lose the weight I've gained - over 30lbs and am now considered obese. Have recently started to cut back to half .112 dosage to see if leg cramps are helped.

I don't know how the med is working on my levels b/c I have not been retested yet. I have been on it for 1 month and have extreme heartburn???? Anyone else experience that? I also started taking a new birthcontrol at the same time so I am not sure which is causing the HB. I also feel like I cannot quit eating. I want to go back on my diet pills but am a little afraid. Has anyone else mixed the 2? Also my bottle says to take in the am but I a have been taking in the pm b/c i did not notice the label. Does it really matter?Read More Read Less

I have been using synthroid for 17 years now. My energy has never come back and I always feel sluggish. As I get older and am now in menopause I am putting on weight like crazy. I have always been strict with my food intake. Doctors just ignore any suggestion that my issues (there are others) stem from the synthroid being ineffective. duster1954
