Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I am 20 an was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 7 years old. I have been taking synthroid and other generic forms of the medication since then. I am tired all the time, even if I exercise I gain weight, and I have dry mouth. So over all I'm not happy with it. My doctors have changed the dosage and brands but I still do not see or feel a change.

I started this med in my 20's. It has been a long road. I tried generic form and it messed up my levels very bad. It took me over 1 year to get my levels regular and feel somewhat alive again. I am now up to 225 micrograms daily and I feel like I have brain fog, my hair is dry, breaking and falling out and now I have a rash on my legs and arms. I just found out on this site that my birth control pill reduces the absorption of my synthroid...great!!! Also I have been getting fibroids, cysts and polyps in my uterus which is causing abnormal bleeding. My gyn doc thinks the hormones are causing this...going for second surgery this week. I am going to stop taking birth control and lower my dose of synthroid. I would like to try armour but scared to change after all these years. The generic form of synthroid really messed me up for a long time and has made me leery to switch. I really miss eating grapefruit for breakfast ...lolRead More Read Less

There HAS TO BE another medication other than Synthroid for hypothyroidism!!! I alway feel tired, rarely get a good night's sleep and generally feel sluggish and inactive. I can't take the generic and my MD won't change me to another medication. HELP! I can't be the only person in this world not liking Synthroid

In my first year of using this drug I went from 130lbs to 190lbs (even exercising 2 hours a day with healthy diet). My doctor I had told me that there is nothing else she wanted to switch me on and I was taking synthroid for almost 4 years and had more symptoms that came on with this drug. I went to get a second opinion with my new doc and he prescribed Nature-throid. He said that I should have only gained 5 to 6 lbs possibly in a year only. If your T3 levels are off then it does not matter how much T4 drugs you take, you can still have symptoms. It all comes down to what drug works best for you and make sure to find doctor who listens!!Read More Read Less

Synthroid has worked like a charm. I have been on the same dose for years and it has balanced my thyroid perfectly. My only complaint is that I have to take it separately from my other morning medications. I used to take everything (I have multiple disorders and lots of meds) as soon as I got up so that I wouldn't forget anything. All my tests were fine for many years. Then I got a new PCP who read me the riot act for not taking my synthroid separately. Now I have to take that first. A half hour later take my GERD medication, then an hour after that take the rest of my meds. That routine often makes me forget something. NOT GOOD. I just might go back to cheating. :)Read More Read Less

I was given this medication for hypothyroidism. I have taken it for three years, after being told I had a goiter. My weight has increased from 175lbs to 255lbs. My thyroid is still under-active. In fact recently, I was told I have 4 nodules in the left side and three nodules in the right side. I have changed doctors each year for different reasons. The last one (a woman) told me "You are fat. You are just fat". I was trying to get information as yo why my medication was not working, and why I kept gaining weight. I went to a new doctor who ordered a new ultra-sound and found the increased nodules. Every doctor tells me I have to loose weight. No one said this med causes weight gain, which I have now read. And the new MD sent me to an ENT for a biopsy and he diagnosed me with Hashimotos.Read More Read Less

Weight gain, sleeplessness and somewhat of memory loss. I don't have much energy and will be seeing my doctor about other alternatives to synthroid.

My weight increased drastically when I was switched from Levoxythyroid to Synthroid. I feel like the pig it's made from.

I've been taking for 13 yrs.It took 4-6 weeks for it to take effect; then getting the right dosage was MOST important. Went from 112mg to 125mg & everything is perfect. Doc tried me at 137mg (TSH was low)-it was too high. Now taking 125mg & doing great.

Vickie, 55-64 Female on Treatment for 10 years or more (Patient) Said she had Graves Disease before she had her abalation to destroy her thyroid. I just want to clarify to her, that you NEVER get rid of Graves Disease, as it is an autoimmune disease. You got rid of being hyperthyroid and switched it to Hypothyroid with Graves Disease. Just like information to be correct! I have Graves, and had an ablation as well.

I MUST TAKE PANTOPRAZOLE BEFORE BREAKFAST FOR BARRETT'S ESOPHOGUS AND CALCIUM FOR OSTEOPOROSES 3X PER DAY. IT SAYS I MUST NOT TAKE THESE FOR FOUR HOURS AFTER TAKING LEVOTHYROXINE. HOW DO I HANDLE THIS?
