Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I was put on this drug to counteract my under active thyroid condition. At first, I was OK. Gradually, I gained weight, have developed a rash and my stomach constantly growls, even after eating. I have also noticed increased frequency of migraines and symptoms appearing to be depression (I have not been diagnosed with this). A sort of mental fog also has appeared.

I'm just starting Synthroid as of 4/07/09. As of today,my symptoms have been fstigue, muscle aches, crying at the drop of a hat, moodiness, shortness of temper, almost to the point of not being able to tolerate people. This is very difficult when you work in the public. My sex life is nill, not even having it.All I want to do is sleep.I pray this medication helps with balancing things out.I used to exercise, now, theres just no energy. Will keep people updated here as treatment progresses.

Have had surgery, radiation, you name it...I've experienced it. Full removal 3 years ago; taking 175mcg. Taking the name brand is essential to feeling better; also having the right Dr. Generics; I became symptomatic; back on name brand and OMG the change is wonderful :) Still having some issues with cold and hair loss...but is getting better. My advice: name brand AND taking the meds at same time EVERYDAY...even if you go back to bed...take your medication EVERYDAY at the same time! Also take calcium (I take mine w/lunch) and eat foods rich in the B vitamin class; and Vitamin A helps with the skin/hair issues; i've found. It also good to keep your family informed in case you do experience changes so that they are aware and can render help if needed. Good Luck! :)Read More Read Less

On this last blood work results, the thyroid level had gone down. This new doctor said she had to lower the dosage of synthroid because the level had gone down. My main doctor has always raised the dosage when the level had gone down and lowered the dosage when the blood work results showed the level had gone up. Whick is right?

I have been taking this medication for about 1 1/4 years. My symptons included pain all over my body, hair loss, swelling, dry skin and depression. I noticed a decrease in pain within weeks of taking levothyroxine. After a month, doc decreased my dosage and have been on Syntroid for over a year. I have been experiencing numbness on my left and right arms during sleep. It is sporadic, however, it will last for weeks or months sometimes. Has anyone ever experienced something similar?

I have been taking this for 30 days. I had serious feelings of anxiety at first but this has pretty much gone away. Some hair loss and some weight gain but nothing serious. My hair is dry and feet and hands tingle a little. Overall the symptoms are not overwhelming. But I do feel like I am hungry all the time and my stomach growls really loud sometimes when I shouldn't really be that hungry. Has anyone else had this problem and is there some way to stop it besides eating every few hours?

After 2 months, my fatigue is beginning to return but not quite as bad as it was. My dosage was recently double by my endocrinologist because some of my symptoms are not improving. I am still optimistic because I feel better than I did before I began the medication.

In the spring of 2008 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Was taking medication to slow it down and worked great. I was happy with my increased energy, feeling, however my endo said this is not a long term treatment. Then my hair started falling out. In the fall had radioactive iodine treatment and prescribed synthroid. Energy level dropped, gained weight and no energy to exercise. Irritable, depressed and anxious. I don't like taking in mornings on an empty stomach because that's the only time I take time to eat breakfast. Since this is a typicaly a female's disease, I don't think enough is being done about treatment, just because blood levels are acceptable and this let's wait and see attitude.Read More Read Less

I started to have more energy and wasn't so tired after some time of taking the medication but now my face is red and has patchy dry spots.

I've been on Synthroid for seven years and I believe I have developed an allergy to it. It worked beautifully at first. Even now, I do not experience the hair loss or pain in my legs, but other things are happening. My weight has progressively gotten worse. GP says blood work shows normal so I shouldn't be having a problem with my weight. This is frustrating! I am retaining serious fluid. My face, hands and arms, legs and especially my feet swell every day. I have developed a constantly red face. My belly is hard. I'm not supposed to do it, but twice I stopped taking the Synthroid. All of the above symptoms disappear and the weight starts falling off. I can only go three weeks without the Synthroid before my hypo-thyroid symptoms become unbearable and I have to start taking it again. Is there a better way of handling this problem?Read More Read Less

I have been taking this drug for about two months. My symptoms included fatigue, hair loss, dry hair, cold hands and feet, weight gain. I am starting to feel better, more energy. One symptom that I just noticed that has happened since starting the drug is a rash on my face. I asked my doctor if it could be a side effect but she thinks it may be roacea, but the pharmasist thinks it's could allergy to the drug or dairy. It seems quite a coiencidence and I'm thinking it may be from the synthroid. Overall I'm happy with it so far.Read More Read Less

My thyroid was the highest count my Dr.s had ever seen. they said it would take at least a year to feel better. It has been 4 months I can tell a little difference. Still tired all the time, but a little better.
