Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I have gained weight while taking this instead of dropping weight, and it is inconvenient to have to take it so early in the morning

Synthroid works! Took for 17 yrs, no problem with minor adjustments. (Tried generic several times, did not work.) Dr. retired, next one decreased dosage, symptoms returned, dosage back to original for 3 yrs. Symptoms returning, endo insisted dosage too high, wanted to cut in half, higher dosage would cause other problems. Tests proved wrong, left at same dosage, refused to increase though hair loss, fatigue, swelling, weight gain, muscle aches, etc. returning. Problem with stubborn endo, that won't prescribe proper dosage to eliminate sympoms. Gives impression of not believing patient complaints, while not even checking scalp for hair loss, etc. Had to increase clothing up a size last year, and now they're tight. Tests not right for all. Looking for endo with same condition, so won't be told to learn to live with symptoms. Read More Read Less

I took this medicine for 12 days. I would have rather been dead!! I went back to my dr. and he took one look at me and was in shock at how horrible I looked/felt. I was so tired I could no longer care for my kids, went from happy woman to severely depressed. I gained 6 lbs. It felt like poison in my body. My dr. told me to immediatly stop synthroid put me on Armour today along with a short term antidepressant, and I am very excited to see how it works.

I was taking this medication upon arising with a full glass of water each morning. By afternoon I was so fatigued I could hardly move. One day I forgot to take it and made it through the day just fine. The next day I resume my morning dose. Again I was fatigued. So I switched to taking it a night after not eating for 2 hours. No more fatigue.

At first it seemed like the medicine was working. I had alot of energy and I wasn't loosing my hair, which I was afraid of. Now that I have been on the medicine for 6 months, I am back to where I started from. Low energy, and I have been losing my hair!!! If it doesn't change soon, I am not taking it anymore.

I have been taking Synthroid for many years and lately I feel like it doesn't work. The endo tried other meds and combos and I'm now on Armour Thyroid and feel worse. I want to warn everyone about your symptoms: for years I was sluggish, morbidly obese, hair loss, rashes, depresssed, many more symptoms and all drs. thought I was a secret binge eater and depressed. Even the endo told me to see a psychiatrist. Then I read about Cushing's Disease and demanded the right tests from the skeptical endo. Turns out I had it, had 2 pituatary tumors removed, lost 100 pounds and found new life. But lately I have felt dull and sluggish. Thyroid levels are within normal range but could be better. Meds & dose keeps changing. Not satisfied with anything. Everyone who has low thyroid symptoms should also be checked for Cushing's. Demand the test. It can save your life. Read More Read Less

I had a hard time remembering to take this medicine on an empty stomach and at the same time every day. I became accustomed to feeling exhausted and began gradually gaining weight, even while on the medication. I recently started taking Armour, which is a natural thyroid replacement, and have seen a GREAT improvement. SYNTHROID WAS AWFUL AND DID NOT HELP ME AT ALL.

I had subclinical hypothyroidism for a long time. I had no energy, was always freezing, and gained weight no matter what. Since starting Synthroid, my energy is mostly back, I'm not cranking the heat up to 75 F anymore, and I lost 10 pounds in about 6 weeks. I LOVE this medication!! Feel better than I have in about 3 years. : )

i started taking this about 1 month ago. i have many symptons of an underactive thyroid but all my bloodwork says no way.i do have an enlarged thyroid at the base of my neck that i was told is genetic. i can't yet tell if this med. helps or not. i have noticed that every muscle in my body hurts and that i can't take any over the counter meds w/out feeling like i am going to pass out.when i first took it i had the best nights sleep ever. could not sleep before that and now i toss and turn again.i have gained weight after losing 40lbs. all because of my thyroid, don't know how much of this is the medicine. i had alot of energy when i first took this but now seem fatigued again. i think it is still too soon to know anything. i am told results take a few months as the medicine takes that long to work. who knows.ihave noticed alot more headches,no depression or loss of sex drive.just alot of body aches.my dose is 88mg.i also take drisdol for vitamin d twice a week, also because of the thyroid. this is has to be taken about 2 hours after my synthroid dose. hard to remember to take that first thing in the am and then eat 45 mins.later.if this medicine dose not work within the next 6 months i have to have radiation therapy and if that doesn't work ,out it comes.don't like feeling like this.Read More Read Less

I started taking this medication about a month ago. It was not working at all. I seemed to feel worse in the beginning. After some research, I learned that I should not be eating for at least 45 min to an hour after taking the med and I shouldn't be taking any other prescription drugs (especially antacid) for at least four hours after taking the med. I now take Synthroid in the a.m., eat an hour later and take all other meds at night before bed. This has made a tremendous difference for me. I feel a lot better, my body aches have subsided and I have a lot more energy. Wish my doctor would have shared this with me in the beginning. Rest assured I will be sharing it with her.Read More Read Less

I had half my thyroid removed in '04 and took 50mcg of generic thyroid replacement for 3 years. I had the other lobe removed in August '08 and started seeing an endocrinologist who has had me on various doses of Synthroid since then. I still don't feel like myself, and I'm very discouraged. I am now trying 88mcg. and hoping some of my symptoms (fatigue, trouble staying asleep, steady weight gain) will go away. I'm trying to be patient, but I can't help but wonder how long I'll have to wait to feel better!Read More Read Less

I have been on synthroid 50 mcg. for approx. 1 year. I have gained most of my weight back after giving birth 2 years ago and i too am feeling worse than before I took the meds. I am considering a 2nd opinion and stopping this medication. My scalp itches all the time and my skin is so dry that it looks scaly. I am in a lethargic funk most of the time and I have a hard time concentrating. I can't even muster up enough energy to take a walk and I am tired of being fat. This is causing me to be depressed and I need to lose weight. The synthroid is not helping at all.Read More Read Less
