Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

Thanks to taking this med, I now have to deal with cysts on my liver, it caused my body too much hormones, I was already on a birth control pill which my dr told me to get off and I did, he put me on the synthroid cause he said my thyroid was underactive which I know it wasn't it was due to throwing up all the time. I will NEVER take Synthroid again!!!I'm told I don't need to be on it by my other drs so my dr who put me on it was in the wrong!!!

I was hyperthyroid and had my right thyroid removed because of a solid mass. I am now hypothyroid and I'm taking 50 mcg of synthroid. I have noticed since starting this drug that my hair has thinned and falling out and acne. I was told these should subside after a few months, I hope so I prefer not to be bald and have a face full of pimples at age 43!

I have been reading the posts because because I have been tired since starting levothyroxine about 6 mo. ago. I took it a few yrs ago and don't remember being this tired. But I am surprised with all of the people with weight gain problems. Shouldn't there be weight lose when the thyroid is stimulated with this drug? I didn't gain weight when I took it before and I hope I don't have that problem now.

I have been on this medication since I was 10. Over the years my TSH levels have steadily declined so my doctors have decreased my dose. I'm now on 0.5mcg and I no longer feel it is working as my syptoms have worsened. Even tho I recently had a rapid 50lb. weight gain (over a 4mo period), my doctor refuses to increase my dose (my heart rate was slighty elevated) or switch me to a natural thyroid replacement drug (which Dr. Oz recommends if you're still having symptoms).

I am an 80 year old male who has taken 25mcg daily for 2+ years. My TSH had been marginally low for some time, but my PC physician (and others) were reluctant to prescribe. (Doing so CAN have harmful consequences.) The MD who did prescribe based her decision on more than the TSH. It followed careful examination and interview regarding my signs and symptoms. Within a month to a year my depression had diminished and my weight had dropped steadily to an appropriate level at which it is now stable. (The MD has followed my case to ensure weight loss wasn't due to other conditions.)Read More Read Less

Md recently decreased my synthroid from 88mcg to 75mcg. After app. 3 weeks I have gained 3 lbs. and can not lose it. Also my appetite has increased tremenously. I can not seem to get filled up. This is definitely not the norm for me. I took 100mcg. for app. 3 year. then Md reduced to 88mcg for the last 2yrs. Had a 20 lb. weight loss of which I really tried to lose and succeeded. Now it's out of control. Feel nervous, Hard to remember little things and am not sleeping good. Tired when I wake up. What is going on? I had no problems until lately with this reduction in the dosage. I was fine with the 88 mcg. I personally think, if it working leave it alone. I am thinking about using the 88 mcg again and of course will call the DocRead More Read Less

I'm only taking 50mics which my Dr. says is a "baby dose" and I have to say this med is awful and I hate it. I think I feel worse taking it than I did without it. I have a headache EVERYDAY, fatigue, back pain and most recently shortness of breath and anxiety. I'm not even sure if I need to be taking this since my Dr says my "levels" are only sub-clinically low and I could benefit from synthroid. I'm starting to believe this med is doing more harm than good. I'm getting a second opinion!

Incredible side effects. Each and everyone listed! I take no other medication but this, don't have diabetes or anyother medical concerns at all. This med. left me wanting to literally jump out of my skin.

My thyroid and two and one-half of my parathyroid glands were removed. The synthroid has not seemed to help much yet. I have gained weight and my body does involuntary jerks.

I lost both lobes of my thyroid to tumors - Hurthle Cell Carcinoma at the age of 40. I am now 68. For most of the interim, I took a strong dose of synthroid (generic did not work as well) to suppress any cancer cells that might have remained. Recently two different doctors have advised me to reduce the synthroid to normal prescription levels and that has not caused any problems so far. BUT I would like to share an odd story. I am white, Anglo-Saxon and have always been able to eat cheeses and milk with no problem. About 4 years ago, I became totally lactose intolerance and now I have to take Lactaid with any meal I suspect has milk products in it. In researching how this could come about, I found that thyroid hormone in growing children is largely responsible for "maturing" their digestive systems so they don't digest mother's milk any more, which is totally normal in many races and most animals. My humble opinion is that the continuous high doses of synthroid wiped out my ability to produce lactase enzyme and to digest milk products. It has been surprising how many products in the U.S. contain milk, everything from popcorn to meatloaf, to salad dressings. Read More Read Less

Since my diagnoses Dr has increased my dosage 4 times. He also has had to increase my cholestrol meds,my bp meds,my anxiety meds and now zoloft for the depression.I pretty much constant heart palpitations,am not excited about much of anything and I'm the one with the sweater on at all airconditioned buildings. This upcoming visit I am insisting on a referral to an endo. After 1.5 yrs obviously this Dr.is not hearing my symptoms clearly.Sex is just not an option anymore. This is just craziness. No generic Synthroid is not effective.Read More Read Less
