Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I was increased from .75mcg to .88mcg because my TSH went from a 3.2 to a 6.0. My emotional lability is my biggest complaint. Since the increase I have not had more than 3 hours of sleep per night. My temperment is completely different;I'm irritable, angry and I vascillate throughout the day. I will live with hypothyroidism or find an alternative instead of taking this synthetic drug.

I have been taking Armour Thyroid for 30 years without any side effects.Asked my Dr for Levothroxine, because it's on Walmarts $4.00 list. After reading side effects decided not to take & had my Dr. change me back to real Thyoid med.$10.00 a month & well worth it.We all need to learn more about our own bodies & not just go with whatever Dr. tell us.If your Dr won't listen to you FIND another Dr.Sometimes I'm really glad I DON'T HAVE INSURANCE because it make me learn more on my own.Dr.s are not Gods & are only giving you their educated guesses. It's not in their best interest to kill or cure you, both ways they lose your money,& as long as insurance companies keep giving Drs.incentives to use their products we will be the loses.,but do not stop taking your thyroid med as once you start taking it your thyoid stops working so you must take for the rest of your life. The Dr. who put me on it never told me this or did any test to see if my thyoid was under active.I was 28 with 4 small children & working full time so went to him because I WAS TIRED HE PUT ME ON THYOID MED.I don"t believe back then there was anything wrong with my thyoid. He's no longer my Dr.If you feel like your on speed your getting to much & if your are tired all the time you probably need more.Trust your own instincs & listen to your body ,your the one who lives in there & good luckRead More Read Less

I have hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's disease. For some unknown reason my primary physician stopped giving my Armour Thyroid (which I loved!) and started me on this synthetic drug. I hate it.

I have been on synthroid (88mcg) for 8 mos. +/- and I feel worse now than I did when I started the med. My hair has and still is falling out really bad, gained 10 lbs.,numbing & tingling has not gone away, still sleepy during the day, leg cramps, muschle ache, etc.... I also have fibromyalsia and the last thing I need is to be taking a med. that will give me more muscle ache. I was on the generic brand and when I told her that my hair was falling out she said it might be because of the generic so she switched me to the name brand. Made no difference! The weight gain is enough to drive anyone nuts. I'm also on an anti-depressant med. and gaining all this weight, that med. doesn't seem to be helping anymore. I mean, what or how do you feel about yourself when you've been small and boom weight gain everytime you get on the scale. It's pretty depressing.Read More Read Less

A thyroid ablation in 2006,(for OVERactive thyroid) caused my need for synthroid. I take it exactly as directed (i.e.empty stomach, wait an hour to eat) and on a regular schedule to achieve best results w/lowest dosage possible. I notice symptoms if I miss even 1 or 2 doses. If I had it to do over, I would attempt to control my overactive thyroid with medication before having the ablation due to body reactions to the ablation, NOT the Synthroid. The pill is small, easy to take and swallow. Having the Dr. declare medical necessity to my insurance means I only pay my normal copay for the brand name drug. My care has been by an endocrinologist.Read More Read Less

ive read some of the reviews and it seems like more dr error than anything. also NO ONE SHOULD EVER TAKE THE GENERIC FORM OF THIS MEDICATIN I.E. LEVOTHYROXINE!!!!!! I know its cheaper but it is not the same as the name brand "synthroid" when i swithced to the generic i experienced all the symtoms i had when not taking medication at all ive been on this drug for 8 years i swithced to generic for 4 months in that 4 months i became depressed couldnt seem to get of the couch or even out of bed half my hair feel out and i gained 20lbs regardless of the fact that i hardly ate anything switched back to name brand at the insistance of my endocronologist and have never had any side effects from it its a life saver for me i feel completely normal i have energy i lost the weight i had gained and my hair grew back in it can be hard to remember to take it at the same time everyday because you can not eat for 2 to 3 hours before you take it or 1 hr after you take it also can not be taken with certian vitamin supplement because they innhibbit absorbtion but its very important to have your thyroid levels test regularly be cause the amout you need can change suddenly and without warning after youve been on the medication for a while youll learn to recognize the signs that your meds need to be adjusted witch involes a simple blood test it is recomened that after you become stable on the meds (witch for me took about 3 months) you get your level tested once a year but i have mine checked every 6 months and sometimes more Read More Read Less

Initially, I had overactive thyroid. When I started this medication, I admit there were a lot of symptoms. I thought I would never feel better. I was tired, hot flashes, moody, every inch of my body hurt or felt extremely sensitive. Two years later and several different dosage changes, I am on 100mg with underactive thyroid, 30 lbs or more overweight, but feeling my energy and strength 80 % better since I discovered this llness. On m own personal goal to lose 10 lbs at a time.

I have been on the brand name for 12 yrs. now. I was told by my endocrinologist that the name brand is much better than the generic. I haven't had any adverse reactions.

I have a underactive thyroid. I have been using synthroid for 5+ years. Before I started taking this medication I was tired all the time and I would get cold very easy. The weight gain has been a issue but I hope to get that under control. The medication has been a big help, but I recommend getting it checked as the doctor orders or you may not realize you need an increase in doseage like I did. Learn the effects from having a under active thyroid it can save you some real problems. Good LuckRead More Read Less
