Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I had Thyroid cancer in 2004. The doctor removed my thyroid and I was put on Synthroid and have been using it ever since with NO problems. My levels have been right on the mark after an initial trial and error period.

Have been hypothyroid for 20 years and so far no problems with Synthroid EXCEPT when I was taking it with my vitamins. Synthroid binds to any other pills taken at the same time which can result in a skewed blood test result. My blood tests were coming back showing I needed stronger and stronger doses. When I finally figured out not to take them with my vitamins, I was all of a sudden overdosed, which sent me into hyperthyroid conditions. It was horrible. Once I got back on the correct dose, and took on an empty stomach, all was fine. Now I ALWAYS take on an empty stomach and don't eat for at least a half hour. Haven't had any trouble since then. Learned my lesson the hard way.Read More Read Less

I've been on Synthroid for over 35 years, beginning in my mid-20's, taking different strengths of the medication due to changes in my thyroid levels. It works well to provide the thyroid that I need to be healthy. For many years I was on one strength, but with approach of menopause, my medication had to be adjusted frequently (both up and down). More recently my levels have remained fairly stable. Without the medication, I would be miserable (exhausted, depressed, irritable, etc.). Although it takes patience to determine the appropriate strength needed, and it must be monitored and adjusted over time, the medication is an important part of my overall health and well-being.Read More Read Less

My face has broken out in little bumps that look like pimples after taking this drug for three weeks. I guess it can be hives or a large rash. I think it is also aggravating my carpal tunnel in my right hand because I have numbness and tingling worse than before. I don't feel like eating and am losing weight on this drug. My main concern is how long am I going have to be on Synthroid, because my face is jacked-up!

It is 2 years and I am still having a weight gain problem - about 45 pounds gained since taking medication. It had to be upped 3 times to 112mcg.

Symptoms better but not fully controlled and are actually getting worse again. May not be the medicine's fault since my docotr is refusing to raise dosage above starting level of several years ago and TSH levels are rising, but according to doctor "normal." I will be seeing another doctor soon in hopes of either changing the dose or changing the medicine. I feel OK (not good - just OK) from about an hour after I take it until about mid-afternoon and then become so fatigued that all I want to do is go back to bed, but of course between family and work I just somehow muddle through the rest of the day. Still have dry gritty eyes, dry skin, and other symptoms. Gaining wieght slower than before starting it, but still gaining weight. Read More Read Less

I have been taking synthroid for about 7 years. I had graves disease and took radiation to "kill" my thyroid. Since I have been taking synthroid, I have not had any side effects.

I have side effects. I have a problem breathing and I get chest pain if I just walk, I sweat a lot when doing anything. My whole body feels like is asleep, and high blood pressure. My lips feel like they are swollen and when I lay down at night my pillow and hair are wet when I get up.

I had an overactive thyroid and was diagnosed with Graves Disease at 16. I had my thyroid radioactively killed and was put on synthryoid about 1 year after. I have lost weight since taking the medication and am almost back to normal. I feel better, I have noticed I am slightly irratable but I can live with it. Its better than being hypothyroid. I take .50mcg daily and am a 21 year old female.

Hair loss, weight gain are the two main problems with synthroid. I am 5 years post thyroidectomy and I still experience these same side effects. It takes a very long time to get the precise dosage correct. For me, that was 3 years.
