Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

It really helps. We recently upped my dose because my thyroid was low again and now I can tell the difference in my energy level.

Many drug interactions including NSAID, diabetes medications, anitdepressants, and certain vitamins. I finally changed to Natur-throid and feel much better.

Had thyroid removed in Jan 2008 at two months shy of 40. Experienced the awful feelings that some of you described (sweating, heart palps, hair loss), but only until my TSH levels were as low as possible. No issues. Have bloodwork and levels checked every six months. Just upped from 125 plus extra half on Sunday to 150 daily, plus extra on Sunday. Doctor says no generic for sure. Have been pretty much back to normal. Working full time ever since. Work out 2 - 3x weekly. Low sex drive though.

I had to get off this after the first month I started because of the fluid retention, muscle pain and emotional symptoms, the only reason I am back on now is because it helped me loose 5 pounds, but the side effects are horrible and I am on the lowest dose of only 25mg, not to mention the hair loss

Similar to reviewer 'blawhun' I've been experiencing the same problem. I was on 88mcg, then 100mcg,then about 4 months ago increased to 112mcg. Since then I've experienced heart palpitations, increased weight gain, lowered sex drive, and a lingering dull pain in my upper abdomen. My primary has put me on two addtional heart and BP meds to address the problem and ordered two stress test. I've gone from running marathons to barely finishing 5Ks. Help!!!

I started this medication 3 years ago and the first 2 1/2 years was fine except I had hair loss, which I take evening primrose oil, and biotin daily and that helps. Currently, I feel like someone is stepping on my chest and squeezing it, my body feels heavy. My doctor told me that it has nothing to do with the medicine and referred me to a cardiologist.

I'm 29 and was diagnosed with Under active thyroid back in June 2009. My meds have been changed several times. I am now on 50 mcg. I cannot take the generic because it does not work for me. I am having heart palpitations on a daily bases to the point I wonder if it is really a heart related problem. After reading some reviews I feel it is more related to Sythroid. I have NO sex drive as well. This med sucks and I will be seeking an alternative whether it natual or another brand. Also having severe headaches daily. Does anyone out there have the same issues or have any suggestions?? Read More Read Less

I have been taking 25 mcg. Synthroid (Brand) for 6 weeks. My doctor gave very detailed instructions on how to use this medicine. I take it with a FULL glass of water at LEAST 30 minutes to 1 hr before eating anything and cannot take calcium, or iron supplements for four hours. My TSH is 6.something. By the end of the first week I was feeling much better - did not feel so very fatigued and bad in general. I continue to feel better the longer I am on this pill. The doctor said I will probably be taking 100 mcg eventually. He will test me every three months. The only drawback is that I have to get up 30 minutes to an hour earlier and since I am already up, might as well exercise :) My TSH has been about 4. to 5. something for years and no other doctor wanted me to start thryoid. When the doctor I am seeing now saw my test scores he immediately wanted to put me on Synthroid. He said my TSH should be 1. I read the reviews and hesitated starting medication for 6 months. For the past 10 years I have dragged around feeling such SEVERE fatigue fatigue that I could only be up six to eight hours a day. The remainder remainder of the day would be spent in bed resting. (What a life!) I am thrilled to get my life back at last.Read More Read Less

I take Synthroid to discourage the remains of my thyroid gland from overworking. Easy, simple, keeps me comfortable.

During the course of finding out I had a thyroid problem I have had to have monthly blood tests to see the effectiveness of this drug. I am in the military and we have strict rules regarding our weight and waist measurment. Since being on this medication I have experienced rapid weight gains of up to 40 lbs in one month! I have failed 2 PT tests because of this and will fail my third and possibly have negative administrative actions taken. I do not want to be discharged from the military because of this plus they keep having to change my dosage causing my weight gain to become out of control. I am on a very strict diet and excersise program but I am still gaining weight. Such rapid weight gain is causing stretch marks on my body as wellRead More Read Less
