Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

I took this horrible drug for over a year until I became ENLIGHTENED!!!! If you require thyroid hormone replacement then get....that! What I mean is this drug is synthetic and only has T4....while your body can convert T4 into active thyroid hormone T3 it is very ineffective and doesn't do anything to replace the other hormones your thyroid would produce naturally...T1, T2, T3, T4 and calcitonin. Which obviously your body needs or a healthily functioning thyroid wouldn't produce, right? So please be aware there are better treatments like Naturethroid and Armour thyroid. They are FDA approved and VERY effective!!! I have taken both and am very pleased with Naturethroid. PLEASE make sure you are getting the BEST treatment. Please do your research...both drugs are very safe and drugs like them have been being used since the 1800's....synthroid 1970 ( with several mass recalls)...Read More Read Less

When is the best time to take my synthroid? Some say first thing in the morning an hour before one eats. True or False

Been on Synthroid for 4-5 yrs. Hate it. Moved, new dr. switched me from Armour which I took for 25 yrs. Armour:no side effects. Synthroid:hair loss, massive weight gain, high blood pressure, swelling in limbs and now kidney insufficiency. I think they were using me as a test subject for this med. I quit taking it while I look for a new dr. My blood pressure has already gone down in the past week that I quit. I want my Armour as I had none of these side effects. I hate Abbot Drug Co. for pushing this horrible drug.Read More Read Less

I am taking Synthroid after an RAI treatment which lead me to have an under-active thyroid. The Synthroid is working as it should but I do experience some side effects such as lethargy on some days, headaches, and rashes. Every couple of weeks I get fluid filled blisters on my fingers and itching on my legs. I never had the problems until I started taking Synthroid.

I am a white 50y old female, had my thyroid removed 23yrs ago from cancer. No problems with drug until recently, noticed heart palpitation, agitation, sleeplessness and hair loss, also I have become very allergic to milk. Symptoms seem to be worse prior to my menstrual cycle. Currently I take 200mcg.

Not sure it's this drug but I have started having pain across my back and down my arms similar to pain I had when my coronary arteries were blocked. Passed a stress test and had a good ECHO test. It all started when I began taking this drug.

Diagnozed with Graves in 2001 > RAI resulting in Hypothyroid. As some others have stated, I wish that I would have reconsidered the RAI as I would prefer meds to control the Hyper condition. The Synthoid works well in combination with Cytomel for me. I have no side effects that I know of since the Graves/thyroid is a constant learning curve...

Only synthroid works for me, the generics cause me to have calf cramps, constipations and fatigue within a week, they don't work for me. I wish they could make this in a time release capsule, so waiting to eat after taking in the am is not an issue. I don't eat breakfast because I don't want to wake up at 5am to take a pill just so I can eat and go to work in another 2 hours. I don't take it at night since I don't have a set dinner or bed time..that part is really inconvenient. I do have issues with my food not being processed normally, so if I do eat anything too soon after taking my pill I get constipation immediately.Read More Read Less
