Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

Had thyroid cancer 11 years ago and my life has been a nightmare on this drug. I gained 80 pounds so they bumped up dosage from 125 to 175. Lost 60 pounds so doctor dropped back to 125 and tried to prescribe antidepressants so I would not care about declining health. Now I have high blood pressure and heart issue. Hair is falling out and I have problems sleeping. This drug should be replaced with one that works.

I was on Synthroid and carbamazine, which have a drug interaction requiring me to take larger than normal Synthroid dosage. I had to quit carbamazine and change to another medication, and I became hyper thyroid. I have all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. My thyroid is being reduced. What is a safe way to reduce the Synthroid dosage?

In 1992 I had a severe back injury. That was when I was diagnosed with hypo...no one in my family has this. I love outdoors execise & to this day ride my bike at least 60 miles per week, run trails 10 miles and hike always over 6 miles each time....not t mention swimming...just LOVE exercise. (also hike Kilimanjaro (19,000feet & Pero etc.) A few month ago my Dr. lowered my dosage to .88.....I COULD NOT GET OUT OF BED AND WOKE UP VERY TIRED....she said that I will need to exericse MORE and eat healthier...she knows I am very, very active and eat very, very healthy...always have!!! But INSISTED that I will just have to exericise more!!! I was in tears because I couldn't believe my ears!! After reading some of these comments, which I am soooo glad I have fallen upon because I feel very alone in this....I am taking fewer and will probably get a new Dr. that listens........the TSH is not the only thing to look at, yet that is all they do look at. Hope this helps others as others have helped me...Read More Read Less

I have been taking Synthroid for 20 years. I recently changed my diet and started to notice hair loss. I'm trying to figure out what is counter effective in my diet to have this hair loss. There are two quarter size spots on my head that are totally bald. Is citrus one of the foods that may counter act?

I HATE this medication! I can not sleep, have gained weight, stay constipated, nervous and very moody. I feel worse taking this medication than before I started treatment. I see me doctor tomorrow and if she does not have something that I can take that will not give me these terrible side effects I will go untreated!!! I can not go another night without sleep.

I have taken synthroid for over 25 years but know I have to take generic because of insurance not covering synthroid. I have only been on generic for six months and already have to change dosage. I am not very happy.

I have been taking synthroid since 1993. When I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, I was pregnant. The synthroid was effective for me until 2006. I started noticing strange side effects, such as dizziness, heart palpitations, anxiety, rapid heart beat. I always had low blood pressure, now my bp is elevated and I have to take medication. I don't understand, I hate feeling this way, it really has had a negative impact on my life. Doctors don't listen to me, I think I have to take myself off synthroid.Read More Read Less

Been taking Synthroid for over 20 years. I have insomnia, heart palpitations, tightness in my chest, nervousness, mood swings, memory loss, anxiety attacks. These symptoms all go away on days when I don't take the Synthroid. My doctor just put me on Armour synthroid instead but no change. I must get off of this drug. I have taken it for years and have only had symptoms the last few years. I wonder if they have changed the makeup of the drug. It is awful. My sister has many of the very same symptoms when she takes the synthroidRead More Read Less

I am 65 years old have been using Synthroid 75 mcg for the past 20 years following postpartum hypothyroidism. I initially felt great as I was not so tired. Over the years I developed various symptoms ie insomnia, dry mouth, coated tongue and in the past few years I had heart palpitations, body tremors and lower extremity neuropathy. I gradually stopped the medications and all symptoms disappeared. I also noticed I had been retaining fluid and my thyroid was enlarged. My skin was now moist, softer and less wrinkled and my memory improved. This is all after my doctor told me my thyroid level was fine. But,I had felt so uncomfortable I gradually decreased my dosage to zero without my doctors consent. The medical profession appears to only assess the use of this drug by blood results which seems to be inadequate. I worry what damage has resulted to my internal organs. Read More Read Less

Recently, I have had my dossage changed to 50mcg. I have to take the name brand due to generic brand not working. I have noticed for the past few months (been on meds since 2008)rapid heart rate and pulse. I finally broke down and went to a cardiologist, whom I thought could lead me in the right direction. After an EKG, He was concerened about my resting heart rate being high- 105 bpm. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? I informed him of my thyriod diease and he is pretty possitve it has something to do with my meds- maybe getting to much but wants to be sure and do a stress test and echo. If you finding yourself with similar symptoms can u please put me at ease and let me know by responding. My husband thinks I'm crazy! Read More Read Less

I hate this medicine. Plain and simple. I tried cytomel in conjuction with it but because of the quick life of that drug and making you feel terrific right away you crash when it wears off and end up feeling worse. They need to make a better slow release T-3 pill or combo T4/T3 pill. This stupid pill is only t-4. My body did not level up in blood work on the Armour. I have Heart problems now, what they call Autonomic dysfunction, with low blood pressure. extreme sadness and terrible, terrible, anxiety. Its sad that with all the medications out there for problems now adays, you would think they would want to make more options available for thyroid issues, since thyroid runs your body daily. And doctors will never tell you your symptoms are from this pill because they want to just make you think its all "in your head". Read More Read Less
