Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

In July 1993 I started feeling horrible, I had gained 65 lbs in 6 weeks. Cold, tired, constipated and mean! Had many BMR tests, no conclusion. By the time I visited a friend who was an ARNP, NOT a Dr. She looked at me and said your Thyroid is dead! It was, my TSH was 148.65. I was hospitalized to start treatment, levothroid NEVER worked!! 18 years later, I've been on synthroid for 18 years.. A new insurance company says no more synthroid, Levothroid does not work. 45 lb weight gain, moody and miserable. Back on Synthroid, I will buy it myself before I ever go off of it again. Almost normal again! Don't let a Dr. or an insurance company tell you whats GOOD for you!!Read More Read Less

I had a body melt down 6 months ago. Who knew! Thyroid supposto be (1) mine was 55. When I woke up three days later my Symptoms were it felt like a truck hit me. I stuttered I could not think I hurt I ached it felt like I had cement hardening in my bones to walk it was so hard. If felt like a VW was sitting on the small of my back. Its now six months later on synthroid (couldnt take the generic) and I am at 8 ALMOST THERE. Just a small amount of hair loss still just a tad stiff but its not going to get the best of me......Time to diet big time. I get up 2 hours before my scheduled time and take medication. Then ahhhhhhhh I have 2 more hours to sleep and I can eat breakfast...it works!Read More Read Less

I have been on this medicine for about 2 years and have had no real side effects except weight gain. I used to be so tired I was dozing off to sleep while driving and since taking the synthroid my enegry levels have increased. I have just recently started having some tremors and did not even think about it being from the medicine until i started reading the reviews.

I was on syntroid 25 mcg for about 4-6 months and felt worse due to slight weight gain and anxiety, came off of it for a while and now my tsh is 7, dr. said it should be 3. I am a Type 1 diabetic for 38 years and am looking for some help without too many side effects that will complicate my diabetes symptoms. Dr has suggested I go back on the synthroid but after reading all these reviews I am really afraid of it. Any suggestions????

If you are having trouble with Synthroid, try Tirosint. It has less inactive ingredients. I've had hypothyroidism for 15 yrs. I developed allergies to pork and dairy, which meant I started having bad reactions to both amourthryoid and synthroid but I didn't know that's what was causing the side effects so Doctors just kept looking at me like I was crazy! I kept trying for years to switch back n forth to find something to help with the hair loss, stomach pain, fatigue, etc.. and finally took the blood allergy testing. I finally checked the inactive ingredients via this website and found that synthroid had inactive ingredients that I'm allergic to. A new Endocrinologist prescribed "Tirosint", which I tolerate much better. My blood pressure even went down when I switched from synthroid. Still have some issues, but definitely less than previous meds. Read More Read Less

After using levothyroxine for 6 months and being sick each day, synthroid gave me relief from all those symptoms. I only wish that I would loose some of the weight gain prior to my initial diagnosis.

I was diagnosed at 2 weeks old. I have been on Synthroid my whole life and will have to take it forever. I have no thyroid. My doses changed as i hit puerty and pregnancy. I am overweight because of it but I would rather be overweight then mentally handicapped. That's would have or will have if they didn't find the problem or if I stop my meds. So I am thankful for this medicine.

I have been taking this drug for over 10 yrs. My endocrinologist insisted I take the brand name because it gives you the most accurate dose of what is ordered. I have felt well for years- very stable. This past month though I have been having problems with chest pain, missed heart beats, pounding heart, tremors. My levels are suddenly showing that I have hyperthyroidism. I wondered why, after 10 yrs on the same dose, taking no new meds or foods that could interact with the drug,am I having this problem. I am wondering if Synthroid brand is experiencing what other drug companies are: that the drug they are selling is actually not the right drug. This is a huge problem all over the world over the past few years. Even hospitals, (where I buy my prescription ) are having issues with the drugs they are buying not really being the right formula of right drug. Google the 60 minute special on counterfeit drugs to learn more.Read More Read Less

i was diagnosed with hypo- when i went in for a physical for school. My doc put me on Synthroid 50 mg. I have been on it for almost a year, and have slowly but surely started gaining weight. I have always been a petite girl, now this weight gain is bringing me down. I still have not much energy, and I notice my hair coming out while in the shower, but its not horrible. I feel like i get anxious, my heart beats really fast. I am not fond of this med, but its better than nothing I suppose. Time to start working out so i can (hopefully) lay off the weight gain. Kind of depressing, I was hoping this would make me feel alot better. Read More Read Less
