Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

On my previous review I complained of many side effects which resulted in discontinuation of the use of Synthroid. However I consulted a different Dr. who said the problem was dosage and not the medication. So by reducing the dosage to half all the side effects disappeared and I feel much better. Good night sleep, more energy, and happier overall.

Have been taking drug since 1968, way before it was commonplace to regulate the dosage by frequent exams -- so I was probably taking too much for several years. This overdosing leeches calcium from bones, so I now have osteopenia even though my dose has been carefully regulated for some years. I originally was put on dessicated thyroid because synthroid was not around yet. Take this drug with care. After 43 years, I am just now reading that synthroid should be taken at least one hour after & before eating. I never knew that! Do not take more of this drug than you absolutely need because it can mess with your calcium, heart rhythm, and sleep patterns. It is not a diet drug, though I thought so in my 20's. An excellent drug if used wisely and with careful dosage monitoring.Read More Read Less

I'm 45, never been on any medication before. Went for my yearly physical and found out I had a low thyroid. My Doc put me on Synthroid 50mcg. I hate it!!!! wake up with heart palpation, feeling so depressed, despondent,Inability, constipated. I've only been on the synthroid for only month. It's nice to read these reviews, because now I know I'm not going CRAZY!!!! I stopped taking the synthroid today.

Have used several brands besides this one. Having gone off thyroxine Rx to see if I can do without, I know that this medication is effective and without side effects (at least for me)

One of the worst experiences of my life. Made me groggy and achy all day long. At nights woke up with heart palpation and gasping for Oxygen. Lost some taste and smell sensations. Felt depressed and despondent most of the time. All these symptoms disappeared once stopped taking the medication.

Diagnosed with hypothyroid after years of reoccuring exhaustion and fatigue; weight gain; and the inability to remember what I wore to work earlier in the week. From the first day I took synthroid I noticed a change in my energy. I am still tired but have not been exhausted since; which had become an everyday thing. I am only 7 days in but so far I could live like this forever and be satisfied with my ability to function in my life.

I was on this medication for 3 days. Since day 1 I started getting joint pain in my left hand and left leg along with constipation. It progressed to the point that on the third day I could not move my hand and the joint pain was starting on the right side on my body. I called my doctor and she told me to stop taking the medication for three days to see if the symptoms go away. I didn't think they would because two days later the joint pain was still there but on the third day the joint pain was gone. So my doctor now has me on no medication and is having me come back in in two months for another blood draw to check my thyroid to see if its getting worse or better.Read More Read Less

I had taken Synthroid for 9 years, but thought I would switch to Levothyroxine to save money. On Levothyroxine my brain seemed foggy and I gained 11 pounds over the last year. Plus my dosage has changed 3 times-my TSH and T4 are all over. Two weeks ago I had my Dr. put me back on Synthroid, 175 mcg. and I my kids were saying yesterday that I had stopped repeating myself and seemed to be an energizer bunny. For me the generic did not work as well.

Due to no medical insurance my Doctor switched to a generic pill. After 4 months I asked for Synthroid back. I don't mind paying for something that works for me.
