Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

Im 54 and had my thyroid totally removed, papillary cancer, March 2009. I was put on SYNTHROID 125MCG. Heart raced woke me up. Weight gain of 20 lbs which I was told would happen. Hate it, but with diet Im maintaining my weight with no more gain. With having blood work every 6 months my numbers are good, but my doctor told me Its how I feel not always in the number levels. So from 2009 to now 2012 Im taking 88MCG daily and only half a pill on Sundays. I have lots of energy, some nights I crash early. I will probably never drop the 20 lbs Ive gained but I do drop up to 5lbs when I really work on a diet and exercise. Over all Im very pleased with SNTHROID.Read More Read Less

I'm two years post total thyroidectomy and I've been on Synthroid since my surgery. I've had very significant weight gain, battles with severe fatigue, depression, big mood problems, constipation, very heavy periods that caused iron and ferritin deficiency, and now a total crisis with continual leg and foot cramping, some cramping also into my upper body and non-stop muscle twitching. My Vit. D levels are low although I have very good dietary intake. My new endocrinologist took me off Synthroid and started me on Tirosint and Cytomel. I've started the Tirosint alone - and even without the Cytomel I've already noticed some significant difference after about seven days. I do not believe Synthroid has been an adequate replacement for my total thyroidectomy - not at all - and I am concerned my muscle crisis and vitamin depletion might be directly related to Synthroid. I urge anyone who's quality of life is totally being affected like this to BE PERSISTENT and AGGRESSIVE about finding a doctor and medication/supplement combination that WORKS! There's NO REASON to continue to suffer needlessly.....Read More Read Less

Removed Thyroid due to papillary cancer tumor. It's been about 5 years and it took a while to get the dosage correct but I am now at my optimum level. No side effects to date.
