45 year old male...BP and cholesterol issues...My fault, not genetic...6'2" 265 pounds...Drug worked great! high-good cholesterol, low-bad cholesterol-average 130's...Wanna know why I stopped taking statins? No.1 reason-never had inflammation anywhere. Right metatarsal portion of my right foot would ache each morning until it was used for about 15 minutes of movement from no injury what so ever....

First statin caused pain in my legs so Dr. Switched to Pravastatin 40 mg. I started having severe pain in upper arm that was so bad I couldn’t sleep on my side. I stopped taking it and pain stopped after a few days. Dr. said to try it again and now I have ear drainage and pain, coughing fits and difficulty breathing, stabbing pain in my right side and general lethargy. This drug is definitely doing more harm than good for me.

I cannot take Pravastatin Oral. Horrible. Not only did I have aches all over my body, but my throat felt like I might have strep throat and my tongue was on fire within 3 days of taking it. Woke at 2 AM and my jaw, teeth ached, by 7 AM, severe cramps in the back of my legs. I sure hope by tomorrow the burning in my mouth is gone. Never experienced anything like this ever. I would say strep throat but think the strep was never this bad. I keep rinsing my mouth with cool water and sipping water. I told a friend I thought this might be the day I die, that is how bad I felt...after 8 hours it is easing, sure hope it continues to lessen. If not, I will have to go to ER. Will never, ever take it again. Will have my medical recorded marked in red to hopefully never use it again. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this for 4 years. I was on Atorvastatin and the leg pain was so bad. My doctor recommended I try this and I am glad I did. I have no problem taking this.

I'm a female 67 petite 130 lbs. a NP put me on 20 mg of Pravastatin because my cholesterol was high. At week two I was driving in the countryside when I had a sudden upper middle back pain, then pressure in my chest, then lightheadedness, then a sudden headache. The symptoms went away but then I started having them daily. Got scared and called the Dr. She ordered tests which showed nothing. Then walking in the yard one morning both of my legs had sudden extreme pain from the groin to my knees that didn't go away. Went to a cardiologist, had angiogram procedure, no issues. The pain in my legs got so bad I couldn't walk. Finally I got in at a big hospital and that doctor listened to me. I was on one prescription. The only " change" was I started this statin. He ran a test on my legs and called me that evening and said....I think all your issues are side effects from Pravastatin. I stopped it and a month later I'm almost 100%. I'm walking again!Read More Read Less

After first COVID booster shot started having TIA's, cholesterol was excellent, put on statin to negate blood clots. This is 3rd statin I have been on. Recently reduced from 40mg to 20mg. Prior never have been sick, no meds, exercised all the time, trim & fit, now feel like crap everyday, muscle aches, fatigue, abdo aches, foggy brain, forgetfulness, etc. Sometimes I have to drag myself out of bed in a.m. & still work full time. Dr. says have to stay on statin otherwise will end up with stroke in nursing home! On my own, took myself off statin for one month & TIA's started again so started med again, guess the statin is doing the job of eliminating TIA's but I feel like I have aged 100 years & I have no idea what the alternative is?? I read these posts & can so relate, thought I was the lone person out there.Read More Read Less

This has lowered my cholesterol to normal levels and I have not had side effects. I tried Lipitor and I had terrible muscle aches. The Pravastatin has been okay and my numbers have improved a lot.

10mg. Lowered my cholesterol after 3 months. Developed soreness in shoulders and upper arms, weakness in legs, stumbling when walking, vision issues, frequent urination, visible loss of tone in biceps and forearm muscles, and ED (I'm an older guy but I'm not ready for that). Went off the meds for a while and felt much better, but LDL went up. Went back on but symptoms have returned after two months so I am quitting statins for good. This medication was prescribed for me as I am just over the line with diabetes and the LDL was up. But my blood pressure is very normal and I have passed stress tests easily. Doctor did not scan for any blockages, he simply prescribed the statin because his school book says I'm a candidate. Well, I think we are all individuals and we should be afforded a bit more thought and consideration before being force fed the drug of the day that has been successfully sold to the medical profession.by the pharmaceutical companiesRead More Read Less

Age 64, female, LDL slightly high for 6 yrs before starting a statin. Tried Atorvastatin but too much muscle pain. So doc put me on Pravastatin, saying it was "weaker" and might not cause the pain. Wrong. Severe mid back pain that I was not having before I started Pravastatin. Leg fatigue (my apartment is a 3rd floor walk-up so I can say for sure I immediately notice leg fatigue). More knee pain than before. Lots of gas, frequent leakage of yellow bowel fluid that had never happened before, and the worst side effect for me is one not in the literature: now I have to get up to pee several times a night with an aching bladder and difficulty urinating. For quality of life, it gets an F-. When I complained my doc said to switch to taking it in the morning instead of night. It doesn't matter -- same problems. I also feel weird, which I can't explain. For the amount of absolute risk reduction you get, even taking it 5 yrs, it hardly seems worth the trouble.Read More Read Less

Both upper arms developed excruciating pain. Difficult to sleep with the pain. Unexplained headaches that were stabbing, but not constant. Abdominal pain on right side. I got covid and had to stop taking it with Paxlovid. Within 3 days my arms and abdomen felt much better, and the headaches went away. This is the 2nd statin my doctor tried. I may be one of those people who cannot use statins. Another medication I take is Diltiazem, and I have untreated thyroid problems. Both may contribute to the statin problem. I am 75 years old.Read More Read Less

So, after reading several of these comments it has sent my mind to wonder if some of my symptoms are caused by this drug. Muscle pain, fatigue, brain fog, hair loss, and dark urine even though I drink primarily water all day. I have been on this drug since 2019 and I've improved drastically since other than said above.

Taking pravastatin 20mg for one year to treat high cholesterol. Works fine for me, numbers are lower, not many side effects...a bit of occasional hip pain.

After four years I have developed weakness in my arms and legs. My vision has been blurry at times even with my glasses. I have gas after meals. Probably a major contributor to ED. My general practitioner suggested I go off the 20mg pills and see if I improve. I am still taking CO Q 10.

I just filled my prescription of provachol. I have been on statins before. My NP that prescribed me the first statin said to take CO Q 10 for 2 weeks, and then start my script. She also said that statins are known for muscle soreness, leg cramps, etc. because they pull the water out of your muscles. I did what she said and didn’t have one issue. The only reason I am changing is because it made my liver enzymes shoot up.
I am at least going to give this script a chance, but I have already started taking my CO Q enzyme to help with my muscles. Fingers crossed. Read More Read Less

this medicine changed my life (and not for the better). side effects included: total exhaustion, depression, joint aches, sexual dysfunction, mental fog, difficulty breathing, inability to climb stairs, leg weakness and buckling, etc. I went from being a distance swimmer and cyclist who, even though old, worked out everyday and pursued my profession as an artist to someone who could, literally, not get up from the couch. I spent last Winter just lying on the couch reading because I did not have the energy to do anything else. when I tried to go back to swimming, i found there was so much pressure on my chest that I couldn't get my breath. I felt like my life was over for more than a year! I stopped taking this last week. Yesterday, I began to feel normal for the first time in more than a year. I will NEVER take another statin. I have alot of anger at the medical profession for not listening to patients when they report these side effects.Read More Read Less

Genetic high cholesterol. Resisted statin drugs for years and finally gave in to this one. I have been taking it for 2 months and I'm just now figuring out that the 15 lb weight gain in 11 days last month what's most likely due to starting this drug. I am experiencing muscle pain and will be discontinuing this drug. I will get a cholesterol check in a few days to see if it has lowered any but the weight gain and muscle pain is never going to be worth it.

I was prescribed Pravastatin as I do not tolerate other statins. I began on 20mg then was put on 40mg. It brought my cholesterol down from the low 300's to 212. I have hereditary high cholesterol. I experienced overwhelming, severe fatigue, bad sinus stuffiness and ear congestion and ear pain, very foggy memory, brain fog and extreme joint stiffness. I am in my 50's and I feel like a 100 year old woman. I would wake up each morning feeling like dead weight and could barely move to get out of bed. Everything hurt. It is not helpful that I have no thyroid. I did a test and took myself off of Pravastatin for 2 weeks. My energy, ear/sinus pain, stiffness and brain fog all improved but my cholesterol went back up fast by about 30+ points. Crazy. I have had horrid reactions to other mainstream cholesterol meds. Livalo being the absolute worst. I almost went to the ER after being on that one for 6 days. I had awful bone and muscle pain and stiffness, felt like my sternum and ribs and chest would break if I moved the wrong way and I kept peeing dozens of times in one night and had severe low back pain. My body was trying to expel Livalo I'm sure.Read More Read Less
