Was started on Losinopril but it gave me a bad cough after just a short time, so switched to Losartan. It took a few weeks to kick in but my blood pressure is down in the 120s/70s range (was 140s/90s). I take 25 mg at night before bed. Initially the first week I would get a little dizzy after intense exercise like a spin class but that went away after a week or so. Now have had no side effects and...

I had a TIA out of the blue last month and a full stroke 2 days later
I was discharged from hospital after a week but my BP is still high so they are chucking everything at it to try and get it down.
One of many was losartin 50mg. Last week my gp raised it to 75mg and I have been feeling dreadful ever since. Dizziness, I had a bad fall a few days ago for no reason and yesterday I fainted putting something in the cupboard.
I have had the excruciating pain like when I was diagnosed with kidney stones years before all this.
GP is seeing me next week but I have been monitoring twice daily as he suggested. My BP has not come down at all, it is raised if anything & my heart rate is 110 today, with nothing under 97 all week.
I'm down to 50mg till I see him and just hope he can suggest something else. My Husband says I am worse than when I was on the stroke ward Read More Read Less

This drug side affects are horrible I strongly advise people not to risk it. Trust your gut instinct and ask around and you’ll find out from other people. My mom is severely sick from allergic reaction, face rash etc. the little iv researched has been way more negative than positive. It seems like it’s number one of drugs being prescribed for some reason right now

I started reading these reviews because I have felt so bad and have gone through so many tests that come back normal that I kept thinking is it a medication im taking. Everything described is exactly what I’ve been going through. Tired, weak no energy. Aches and pains and headaches. Now I have tinnitus and vertigo. Want to wean off this med and see what happens.

Losartan, my advice DO NOT USE, side effects are worse than benefits. I stopped it a week ago,and a total new life restarted. I have no idea how this medication is still permitted. Avoid.

Hello to all....finally figured it out, tired, insomnia, high sugar levels, barely able to walk at morning, uninspired to do things.....LOSARTAN should be taken out if the market. Stopped it 1 week ago, BP better than with med, sleep totally normal, sugar levels totally normal. Avoid it. Horrible medicine.

This medicine almost took me too the loony bin. I am not through it yet. My new GP just took me off it. My nightmare is insomnia, it worsened my tinnitus, throbbing back of the head, pounding heart beat in my stomach, weird pins and pains in various places, anxiety, rapid weight loss, palms hurt, literally feeling I was going to die. Still need to go through withdrawal and find sleep again. So ready to put this poison behind me.

Developed a terrible measles-like rash that included horrible itching. Allergist focused on Losarten and in less than two weeks of stopping taking it, rash and most itching subsided. I increased.my potassium level through diet and my blood pressure has dropped to normal levels.

Hello-Yes, I now have HBP just like you do, darn it. I am on Losartan 25 mg now. I am also a retired RN and was upset, as I was doing so good, but I am 75 yo after all-lol! Well, I was on Lisinopril, but had that awful dry cough, so I stopped that drug. I am now on Cozaar or Losartan now and I feel so very tired all the time and my muscles in my back and legs are sore. I really wonder about this medication....my systolic is still high?? Weird as my BP is...kinda all over the place now. I am thinking this med is NOT working for me at all. I do not like that it raises my Potassium either, so I may stop this as soon as I see the doc and discuss the issues I am having. Thanks guys and good luck-always discuss with your doc asap if any medical/drug issues occur. Bless you!Read More Read Less

First dose. Not on medication, so was acutely aware that I might feel some changes but the pharmacist said it's generally well tolerated, so I took an afternoon dose and went about my business, gym, couple of appointments, and grocery shopping. About 30 miles in the car. So, my first impression was that I felt nothing out of the ordinary. Now, four hours later, my head has cleared of its geriatric fog and I have what could only be described as a mild throb in my temples. No headache, but relief from being in a borderline tension headache for months that is probably a result of the 20-30 point rise in my BP from stressors. For its first dose effect, I'd give Losartan a 10.Read More Read Less

With increased weight gain, and onset of chronic high blood pressure, my doc Rx’d a Lisinopril prescription but that made me cough excessively. So last summer I quit taking it and he then replaced it with Losartan Potassium which had alleviated cough and performed better to more effectively reduce my blood pressure readings.
I saw immediate response in the reduction of coughing once I stopped Lisinopril and switched to Losartan.
The improvement in reducing my blood pressure dropped it from the high 200s region to the 160s region with Lisinopril. But then after switching to Losartan it’s reduced even further down to the 130s region, so I believe it to be more effective.
I do feel often tired, but I know I also have a slow thyroid and pre-diabetes. If I consume sugary foods or a lot of bread, the fatigue is worse, but I’m sure that’s due to the pre-diabetes and not Losartan.
I choose to take the Losartan at night before bed because my pharmacist pointed out that most sleep-deaths and heart attacks happen in the wee hours / early morning timeframe. I also noticed my own blood pressure readings were consistently higher in the early morning than in the afternoon, when I did my daily blood pressure reading journaling prior to diagnosis and medicine treatment for the blood pressure. Since being Rx’d losartan potassium, I’ve stopped taking OTC vitamin supplements of potassium, due to the warnings in the product documentation info sheets included with my Rx and on sites like webmd.
Overall I feel this medicine has helped to control and regulate my blood pressure issues. I’ve been on it for right close to a year. I know I’m getting a better quality of sleep and consistently more sleep than I was getting before I started taking this medicine, which is the only med I’m taking.
I haven’t experienced any dizziness, nor brain fog, nor any of the other side events other reviewers have posted about. Read More Read Less

This medicine (Losartan) is horrible! Prior to finding this site and hearing others' horror stories I know this wasn't just in my head. I was dizzy, had muscle weakness and cramping, brain fog, pins and needles feeling in my legs/feet and very lethargic. The worst side effect, for me, was the hoarseness it caused in my voice. I am a professional musician and singer. Three days after starting this medication I played an acoustic gig in a local pub. After just four songs my voice was toast! After that it was the most embarrassing performance of my life. Prior to taking this med I could sing all night with no problems. I stopped taking it the next day and consulted with a medical doctor who practices medicine without prescribing pharmaceutical poisons. He is the first doctor who actually took the time to ask me about my diet, lifestyle, stress levels, etc. I began exercising more and am now taking beet root powder and hibiscus seed extract and it works great at lowering my hypertension. Took 25mg/day for 3 months for kidneys. (Had already been taking Amlodipine for years for bp.) Losartan makes me cough too much, especially at night when I lie down. At 3 mo, did urinalysis and blood tests for kidney function and everything was exactly the same as before I started it for proteinuria/albuminuria. So it isn't helping. I was getting dizzy and doctor blamed it on everything but the Losartan and did a bunch of extra tests like carotid artery ultrasound for $800. Nothing wrong there. I quit the Losartan and peeing became easier again, the dizziness went away, the coughing stopped. Amen.Read More Read Less

Im so glad I came on here to read the reviews. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure like 6 months ago. I have been taking Losartan since then. Well Ive been blaming all the symptoms Ive been having on Hashimotos but after reading these I realize its this medicine. Besides more importantly I recently wasnt able to get a refill and was out for 3 days and I felt so good. Started taking it again and all these symptoms came back . Symptoms I have are headache ,body aches and pain, blurry vision, weakness, tiredness, muscle cramps, bloated,no energy, lots of anxiety, stomach issues, insomnia, brain fog .Even though some of these symptoms are related to Hashimotos I realized its this med after being off of it for 3 days then resuming . This med is poison and I will never take another pill !! Thought maybe something was really wrong since I only felt worse as time went on while taking this med ...so relieved that I was unable to get it refilled til after 3 days of being off. Also its never really helped with my blood pressure. Read More Read Less

I finally gave in to pressure from my NP to take Losartan for proteinuria because kidney disease runs in my family. For 4 weeks, no problems, then the side effects hit. Even though my blood pressure was normal, I was having severe vertigo, chest pain, stomach pain and nausea, frequent urination, and every morning I woke up feeling like I had been anesthetized and it was a slow struggle to engage with normal tasks. Before, I was exercising for 60 minutes a day, all my lab work was excellent except for the protein in urine, and I considered myself lucky for my age. Now I'm thinking this med was a bad idea.Read More Read Less

My doctor replaced my Lisinopril prescription with Losartan Potassium in an attempt treat a lingering chronic cough (13 months) that three different other treatment plans failed to alleviate.
After a single dosage off of Lisinopril and into Losartan the cough dissipated dramatically and has remained negligible.
In addition with no other changes in lifestyle or medication my ED dramatically improved. I don’t understand the connection, but the change has been consistently improved.
