When my husband passed away, I was okay for 3 months. Then I lost all control of my emotions-weepy all the time over dropping a spoon etc. My doctor prescribed this medicine at 10mgs and side effects were not worth it. He said cut the pill in half and that was exactly the dose I needed! Thank you God for this pill. Doc says I can get off any time I feel like it, but I can also stay on it for ...
This medication is awful! It caused personality changes, aggression, and antisocial behaviors. The tension level this drug caused was unbearable! Please stay away from this terrible medication. There are better meds out there.

I'm on a low dose, just 10 mg/day at night. This has helped my anxiety greatly. It may, however, be causing Restless Leg Syndrome. I have not tried stopping the Escitalopram to confirm this, however, my sleep dr. told me this medication may be what's causing the RLS.

Started taking this medication 7 years ago and it seems to work very well. It isn’t a magic pill but it’s not supposed to be. The depression no longer has such a strong hold on my life. I understand this medicine isn’t for everybody, but I feel very lucky to be alive at a time where this medicine is available. Some side effects. A little weight gain, a little libido drop, and a sour stomach but well worth it, especially with the fact that most of those side effects go away with time.

Was prescribed it 1yr ago for daily panic attacks & GAD. Took my first 5mg in the morning & 1hr later fell asleep. Woke up in 3hrs weak & terrified. “Never again” I thought. Decided that I’d stick to Xanax during panic attacks, go to therapy, meditate, etc. Struggled for 10 more days, got even worse until fear of the state I was in, outweighed the fear of taking Lexapro again. My doctor told me to cut a 5mg pill in half and take it in the evenings. In a week I increased the dose to 5mg. Stayed on it for 2 weeks with no improvements. Switched to 10mg & in about a week noticed some changes. This was a “turtle walk” for me. Took about a month after switching to 10mg to stop taking Xanax daily. About another month for the morning knot in my stomach to go away. Panic attacks stopped completely after about 4 months, anxiety went away after 6-7 months. I am off it now for a month & feeling good! Gained 25lbs, had headaches & fatigue while tapering offRead More Read Less

third time i am taking escitalopram, first time was for 4 years, second time 2 years, this time it has been 4 weeks. It has been the best experience for me on this drug. I suffer from very painful IBS that can affect me long term when I have a flare up. Each time starting anxiety gets worse for a week or two, but by the third week almost back to normal with no side effects. The gut pains have all but gone and I have slept great from day one. Life saving drug for me.

Started at 5mg and for the first few days felt fantastic but after a few days I felt terrible zero motivation, constantly tired, no sex drive but these got better after 3-4 weeks but what gradually kept getting worse to the extent I stopped and won't be back is memory problems I became extremely careless and couldnt remember a thing or understand words, hard to describe but it was scary. I thought going up to 10mg would maybe resolve itself after 4 weeks but this was a terrible decision I couldn't get out of bed sore head dizzy, way more anxious and felt off balance standing on my own feet, I felt horrendous went back down to 5mg. There was positives however as strange as it sounds I did feel more motivated, confident and abit more positive as this was going on but looking back since starting this I can hardly remember a thing the last month it has been a complete blur. Very scary be careful and do your research it might work for others but the best relief I've felt is completely stopping for 2 days now, very sore head but its nothing compared to how escitalopram made me feel, think I'm completely put off antidepressants now for life and will stick to natural cures and cut caffeine out. 5 mg was not enough for me, 15 mg caused me to blackout at a gig with a beer in my hand (I have the facial scars to prove it) but on 10mg everything is hunky dunky. Haven't had a panic attack in 2 years... just be sure you get the dosage right!

I've been on 10mg of this for about 1 year now and it has greatly helped me manage my depression and anxiety. I cannot compare any other medication used to treat depression since this is the first one I tried and has worked for me without fail (knock on wood). For the first week, I did have side effects such as dry mouth, excess sweating, feeling generally out of it, increased bowel movement, and teeth grinding. Which all stopped either within the first week or the day after my first dose. I do take this with another anxiety medication and ADHD medications and have not had any major or minor interactions when taking it with these. Also found out that the manufacturer of the first time I filled this did increase side effects, I can only take the Aurobindo brand which does not cause any side effects for me. I no longer have episodes that aren't manageable, this doesn't "cure" my depression but allows me to better handle my emotions and feelings without the overwhelming feeling of dread or losing myself. I know that the treatment of mental health is very much trial and error, where a solution for one person will not be for another. Having a provider who is willing to work with you and understand your mind and body will help in the long run when finding a medication(s) that works, also some manufacturers don't work for certain individuals such as myself.Read More Read Less

This stuff is dangerous, have anxiety, I was taking clonazapam, my doctor moved away so they re fill my script until I get another family doctor. The doctor on call, gave me this instead, I tried it for 2 weeks, I had Insomnia, worse depression, bizarre thoughts, I would wake up in the night felt electricity shooting through my brain. I went off it 2 days later completely back to the way I was before taking it. it may help some people, but long term effects I could see being bad, they can shove this stuff, stay away! This drug is a poison. Probably one of the most toxic and dangerous drugs out there. Avoid at all costs. Caused serious permanent side effects / brain damage to me.

his drug has ruined my life. Was prescribed it to worry less and help with sleeping.
Took 20mg and had instant adverse reaction. It actually gave me insomnia where I couldn't get a seconds sleep. Also gave me tremors, twitches, high BP, racing pulse, anxiety, extreme irritability, fatigue, dry mouth, nausea, either hot or freezing and weight loss. And this was one pill. Impossible, right? Well it happened and the worst part is this was months ago and the symptoms are still here and getting worse as time goes on. Hate this drug, imo it should never have made it to market.Read More Read Less

well I took my first dosage of 10mg today and feel like how I felt before my depression… Happy. I was prescribed because of life events that I’ve went through(charged for a crime when I was mentally unstable, grandma passing last year and losing jobs) but I feel like this prescription will definitely help me with a lot of my problems and get me back on track to reach my goals!! I’ll do a months update if I have any major side effects. Only one I felt was just my heart races but also just makes me more alertRead More Read Less

My son was killed in a car accident 73 weeks ago & was prescribed this to help, started at a low dose for about 6 months, but needed more help so was bumped slightly higher and now on 20mg and it seems to keep me somewhat level. I do have sweaty moments, but that could also be a hot flash, doesn't help me sleep at night, but on my lunch at work this week, I have laid down totally exhausted for a cat nap. I also take lorazepam for the really bad days.

This drug was too strong for me, even when taken at a low dose! The doctor started me at a dose of 20 mg. in the hospital, but that was way too much. I became irritable, moody, manic, hyperactive in my thinking. I also had crying spells. He cut back the dose to 10 mg. and that was better, but the main cause of my depression lay in the fact that I was in a hospital where I had lost control over my life. When I got home I went back to my old antidepressant, Celexa. It worked a lot better.

Swapped citalopram 20mg to Escitalopram 10mg 6 months ago. This medication has been horrendous for me. Agitation, anxiety, anger, fast heart beat, sweating, weight gain. I’m going the doctors tomorrow to swap back. It may work great for some people but not for me.
