I have ADD, not ADHD. I noticed a difference in my cognitive abilities almost immediately after using Adderall XR. The 30 mg capsule made my heart race, so my dosage was reduced to 25 mg. The ideal dose for me would probably be somewhere in between 25 mg and 30 mg. My symptoms gradually worsened over a period of 30+ years and resulted in multiple job losses, divorces and financial difficulties. ...

My boyfriend is 100 percent dependant upon this drug. Although he claims it has changed his life by enabling him to focus at work. There is a severe downside to using this drug. Has just about completely fixed every aspect of adhd that has poorly impacted my life, with an additional noticeable improvement with my depression and energy! I am also now severely addicted to it and will occasionally take double or more my dose to get high as an unhealthy coping mechanism during lows, have also gone down to 85 lbs. at 5’5 and subsequently developed an eating disorder, and am completely dependent on adderall to function day to day. This is on 20 mg XR. Obviously my experience won’t be universal but it is well known that adderall has very high risk for addiction, if you have any risk for drug addiction this is the last place I would look. I think in ANY scenario adderall should be a last resort when looking for adhd medications, it’s definitely very effective but also very high risk. Even if you are personally opposed to illegal substances, alcohol, etc. you should take precautions and make sure you still aren’t at risk for any kinda addiction, because I know I did not want to be adderall addicted and dependent by 17. Even now I can acknowledge it’s bad but i’ve gained a physical addiction and reliance on it and stopping for good has been incredibly difficult, especially when it also means potentially ridding what finally worked for my adhd, and when stopping leaves me feeling incredibly drained and unable to get out of bed or focus at ALL. Again this is not by any means the common or universal experience and I think this is the right medication for some people, I just really want to emphasize that the addiction warnings that come with it are no joke and should be taken incredibly seriously. Monitor yourself/your children and mention any negative side effects to your caregiver, and be honest about it. Also mention if you have extreme/very prolonged withdrawals. It’s normal to have some minor ones but adderall when used for adhd is generally intended to be taken as needed, so if there’s an excessive dependency on it it’s worth noting. Essentially, just have very open communication with your caregiver, and stay safe y’all.Read More Read Less

Since starting the medication I’m able to sit thru a movie and complete a project I have previously started. I have also noticed I develop a small raised area or very small bump on the side of my tongue that is very very painful. It is not red or oozing anything just very painful.

This medication has worked decently for me. No increase in over 2 years. I see a lot of people commenting on certain manufacturers on here. So just some shared intel for you guys. :) For those that get a generic version, know that those drug companies are not held to the same standard as the brand name. Generics only have to be within a certain range of the active ingredient, whereas Brand names have a strict standard to follow. This is when being a pharmacy tech is helpful. Also, there are different binders used amongst the different companies. So if you have say a food dye allergy be sure to have the pharmacist check the ingredients for you and they can help find a manufacturer that works for you. Most pharmacies should be able to order a different manufacturer for you. Not a guarantee always but definitely worth checking into. Any decent Pharmacist should honor your request or at least try.Read More Read Less

I am 15, I just got off of Methylphenidate (generic Concerta) because it didn't work as effectively as I wanted, I started Adderall a few days ago and I have been on task, more efficient and my moods have been more stable. I haven't had any side effects yet. I also have Bipolar type 2 Disorder so I take it with an anti psychotic. It has been going great. I recommend

I was first put on stimulants when i was a freshman in high school and now have been taking it since (now in senior year of college). This seems to be the best one out of all of them. Not only has it made me more calm and focused it has saved my grades, relationships, and work. The side effects i have experienced is stomach ache, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. The side effects only last for an hour of two of taking it and subsidies for the rest of the day. This is worth the symptoms and it is easy to take. Read More Read Less

I am currently on Adderall XR 30MG, and it has changed so many different aspects of my life, including depression. I have ADD (yes, I know there should be an "H" in there, but I do not have the "H" part). I was prescribed Adderall because I was about to be terminated from my job, but I still go terminated, surely because of corporate policies that conveniently used against me. Back to the drug, I take it around 6am everyday, and found that my overall mood has changed. I am not as emotional as I was before, yet I am still able to express my feelings when necessary without the full breakdowns. I have been dealing with Major Depressive Disorder, and this medication has alleviated most of those feelings. However, the medication has not been a miracle drug, and it contains no magic! You still have to try to live a better life and might have to make some changes to your daily routines. For me, ADD has always been there. I come from a Hispanic family and mental illness is not considered a real illness. For me, it took me to be 36 years old to finally realize it was time to visit a psychiatrist, irregardless of all the negative sigmas; I was glad I did, because it gave me many suspected answers, rather than self diagnosing situations. Adderall for me has come a long way, and have always taken generics. That's when the unfortunate fun begins. I was taking Prasco for about a year before the local pharmacies in my area started to change all of their inventory. Some pharmacies won't even tell me what brand they carry in stock, and that's ridiculous! I have gone through Amneal, Impax, Lannett, and Mellincrodckt... of these, the Mellincrodct was the worst and almost felt like a placebo. I wish I could try the Teva version that others have had success with, but I have been unable to find anywhere; along with my Prasco. At this point, I am left with early burnouts, and tired afternoons. I realize the generics must contain the same active ingredients, but what about the inactive?Read More Read Less

I realize my previous comment was more about my personal journey with mental health rather than the facts/side effects of this medication (though I feel both are important). So as much as I’m happier with my life and thankful I have discovered this medication, I am going to get real about the side effects I’ve experienced. I currently take 2 20mg pills everyday. I take this medication in addition to 40mg Paxil/paroxetine to treat my combination of anxiety/depression/ADHD and I’ve noticed if I don’t take my Adderall, the paroxetine alone is not enough. As a coffee lover, I’ve learned that any more than one cup of coffee with this medication can make me feel jittery so I limit myself to no more than one cup a day. My blood pressure has also seemed to rise slightly while on this medication, though not enough to warrant any additional medication or treatment. (I’ve also struggled with being overweight my entire life and have recently experienced some weight gain so this could be the culprit as well.) I also can forget to eat while taking this medication so I have to make a conscious effort to eat a balanced breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Otherwise I can easily go an entire day without eating and scarf down a whole day’s worth of calories in one sitting once I get home from work. I‘ve also developed a dry mouth since taking this medication, something that my dentist pointed out, so I have to remember to drink enough water each day and use a toothpaste with fluoride. (I also take a daily antihistamine which does not help with the dryness.) My dentist also recommended I chew sugar free gum throughout the day. With all of this said, however, none of these side effects have been a dealbreaker for me or enough to raise serious concern from my doctor. After struggling to find something that works for me, I am ok with accepting these side effects in exchange for the vast improvement in my day to day life and mental health. Though everyone’s experience is different!Read More Read Less
