I have ADD, not ADHD. I noticed a difference in my cognitive abilities almost immediately after using Adderall XR. The 30 mg capsule made my heart race, so my dosage was reduced to 25 mg. The ideal dose for me would probably be somewhere in between 25 mg and 30 mg. My symptoms gradually worsened over a period of 30+ years and resulted in multiple job losses, divorces and financial difficulties. ...

I have ADD and GAD. I've been taking Elavil with this medication and now tapering off the former. Elavil greatly improved my sleep, but had problems with weight gain. My dose on Aderall is 10-15 mg and it has been relatively effective. My focus is better and I feel less irritated. It's a good medication and only complicated via my negligence in regular dosing. I may ask for the Extended Release, but I take 5 mg immediate release three times a day. I've got to remember that I take it more for others around me than for myself. Why? The irritating behavior (short quips and side comments) that I tend to use are lessened with this medication. Last dose is no later than 5PM, otherwise sleep issues. I do not have any health issues other than obstructive sleep apnea (on CPAP) and an occasional irregular heart rythym (rare PACs). I am a retired health sciences professor so knowledgeable on potential side effects.Read More Read Less

Adderall XR works effectively in improving my focus and concentration. XR is smoother than the IR in regard to when the med begins to wear off. Less irritability and easier come down with the XR opposed to the IR. Side effects mostly noted are headaches (worse if dehydrated or not drinking much water throughout the day.) Dry mouth is a definite side effect for me each and every time as well as a slight increase in perspiration/sweating of the armpits and hands. Overall, I am a satisfied user of the medication, Adderall XR. I have been taking the medication for over 20 years.Read More Read Less

Current Adderall, XR 30 and Adderall 20 on market today is totally different. Cannot concentrate. Focus Foggy head extremely tired 30 to 45 minutes after taking it. It’s hard to function. I’m so tired physically and mentally tired. The generic brand is even worse. The generic brand makes you short fused, extremely angry extremely irritable. Completely out of character of yourself

Starting Adderall was a giant game-changer for me in terms of being a functioning adult. I was only recently diagnosed with ADHD last year and has allowed me to essentially grow into the person I am today. I was extremely terrified of starting this due to the stigma and my personal experiences working in a pharmacy and seeing how people were treated for taking this medication and unfortunately, those who abused it. My psychiatrist originally prescribed this to rule out bipolar disorder which unfortunately shares a commonality with ADHD, especially in women, and did not feel comfortable giving me a mood stabilizer right away (she was correct). I did have side effects within the first couple of days of taking this such as increased heart rate, dry mouth, and feeling a bit zoned out. Not including the fact I cried on and off for about a month straight over anything, since I was able to finally feel normal and have feelings that weren't just anger. This also helped me tremendously with my spending habits, work efficiency, and being able to finally finish college. I don't feel like a roulette wheel is constantly spinning in my head and can focus on tasks without getting overwhelmed or burnt out immediately. The only downside is it's effective for about 8 hours without feeling like I was crashing, which now I have an immediate release to help with that and only take if necessary. It also helped my sleeping habits and can get a good night's sleep or nap without feeling groggy, or oversleeping. Read More Read Less

I am a 62 year old woman who has struggled with adult ADHD since 2014. I finally was fortunate enough to find a psychiatrist that only wanted me to have a decent life. When he saw me the first time he said that I was one of the worst cases of someone who had adult ADHD. Well, he was correct in that diagnosis and he tried Ritalin LA and bumped it up to 40 mg. It really wasn't working anymore so we decided to try the Adderall Xr for a week to see if it would work with the horrible symptoms I continued to experience. After the first week I called him and reported that I felt really good about the way that the Adderall was working. He bumped me up from 20 to 25 mg. I am hoping that it continues to help me and so far, so good. Any help for this issue is greatly appreciated and I appreciate my doctor for trying to help me. I am all for this drug and have great hope! Thank you for taking the time to read my experience. God bless you all!Read More Read Less

Adderall XR (along with a short acting booster at noon) is hands down the best ADHD med I've been on (and I've tried several now). Some of the other meds I've I tried either made me crash really hard after a couple hours or worked well but affected my sleep (with Adderall I like that I can even nap during the day if I need to). I was diagnosed about 7 years ago, and I never realized how much I was struggling until I started on meds. Around that time I also fell ill with an autoimmune disease (Myasthenia Gravis)and my meds also help greatly with the fatigue that comes with MG. I can now get up in the morning no problem (I highly recommend settling your alarm for 30 minutes to an hour before you need to get up, take your meds, go back to sleep, then get up once your meds have started to work), get things done with much less procrastination, and focus much better. Nothing will ever cure my ADHD, but Adderall XR has made a world of difference!Read More Read Less

I have been on Adderall XR for a little while now. It is an incredibly effective medication. I can see why some people get addicted to it. I was able to focus and get my life organized. As effective as it is, it has also caused me extreme weight loss, dry mouth and insomnia. It’s great but when it wears off, I feel fatigued and tired, but still unable to sleep. Adderall is very effective and like all medications, comes with adverse side effects.

I was mis diagnosed years ago as bipolar when they didn't know a lot aboutit. So I've been on all type of medication cocktails. Some things helped a little some things didn't so nothing ever felt right. I moved to another state and went to a new psychiatrist and after answering a lot of questions verbally and answered a questionnaire he felt that I had been misdiagnosed early in my life but that I actually had ADHD. He gave me a low dose at first, we over a couple of months increased a little bit and now it has totally changed my life. I truly can focus on what's in front of me and not the other 5,000 distractions. After mentioning this to my mother she opened her eyes and said you know that makes a lot of sense. If it's used correctly it's life changing.Read More Read Less

Being a 67 year old woman in pursuit of two Masters degrees simultaneously, I have felt a bit of pressure (!) over the last 4 years. I managed well until a whirlwind of both good and bad family issues consumed me to the point of mental disfunction last year. My doctor prescribed Adderall to take alongside my usual anti anxiety medication. The 20mg was too much…about died of constant thirst and had the jitters so bad that I could feel my hair growing! Cut the dose back to 10 mg and am a newly renewed lady. Multitasking and concentration are both a part of my reality again. Couldn’t be more pleased! Side effects have been minimal since my dosage has been reduced. Weight loss has been the primary side effect, but I needed to lose my extra pounds that had stubbornly accumulated over the years. Less body fat has served me by providing increased ease of mobility, the ability to resist alcoholic beverages entirely, and maintain an overall contentment in being the thin person like I was before the weight gain. Yes, Adderall has allowed me to resume my life and continue to pursue my dreams of becoming a historian of visual arts. Give it a go, let your body be the judge, and hopefully be renewed as I have been these last six months.Read More Read Less

I struggled through first to 12th grade. I went to college and was out in 4 months.Ten years later I tried adderall then XL and to make a long story short I graduated #1. It works if taken every day, and no side affects.

It works great but I’m on XR and they seem to only last for about 5 hours sometimes less but it’s better than my mind racing all day and feeling lost in a everlasting loop of thoughts.
