I had thick, yellow and black nails for years but was reluctant to take the medication due to cost and possible side effects. When it infected my right thumb I decided to take the risk and AM DELIGHTED that I did. The generic version is very affordable and I had no side effects what so ever. I also had thick cracked heals. Two years later I still have healthy feet and nails and can now wear sa...

My new PRC doctor saw my toes as I had sandals on and my toenails are yellowed as I have always have kept nails polished with dark polish, nailpolish can cause nails to yellow!! This new dr made diagnosis of toenail fungus and prescribed Terbinafine so I took for 14 days when I realized something not right was getting more depressed and my anxiety disorder seemed worse and I couldn't figure out why my appetite decreased as nothing tasted good any more and strange taste in mouth!! I researched side effects of Terbinafine and I was having all the side effects badly!! I stopped taking this horrible medication immediately, reported to the doctor! I should never have been prescribed such a medication with these side effects as I suffer from MDD and GAD, I had a liver resection for cancer 14 years ago therefore should never of been prescribed such med. Doctors need to pay attention to your medical history and the side effects of medications they prescribe! Thankfully I researched and stopped drug myself! This med almost killed me sickening me worse!!!! Read More Read Less

I was very worried about taking this for 3 months but stuck to it as had a nail infection for many years and nothing topical worked in the end. I’m so glad I did and stuck with it as finally after years my nails have grown back pink again. Big toe still had a a little way to go, but think I’m about 3/4 months it will be all gone. No adverse side effects other than a little more hair shedding after 3 months but this has calmed.

Started this for sudden bad fungal big toe nail infection, which I think had been caused by athletes foot. On Day 1 headaches started, then constant dizziness and diarrhoea every day, after a month. I also felt really unusually low in 1st few days which I’m now thinking was probably this. I’ve stopped it now for 2 days and feel the side effects are way too scary for me to continue. I still don’t feel quite right yet.

I started taking this about 5 weeks ago for a toenail fungus. I was supposed to be on it for 3 months. I won’t make it that long. I stopped the day before yesterday. I did start to see improvement in clear nail growth BUT the hair that’s finally gotten healthier after I stopped lightening it and was growing better bc my thyroid is under control now is falling out at a record rate. I will say that having weight loss surgery could have also contributed to it, but this probably exacerbated things. I have my blood work checked regularly due to thyroid and surgery and my numbers were perfect. I can only say this medication made a bad situation way worse. I’ve made an appt to chop my hair and start over. I’ve stopped taking the medication and I’ve purchased 2 wigs. I would rather lose the nail completely than lose my hair. Now I’m left with trying to start from scratch bc of this side effect and my dr never mentioned it. As a matter of fact, when I called her about it, she said she never heard of that side effect. I’m devastated. Finally getting healthy, feeling good about myself and the clothes I’m in and now, my hair! Read More Read Less

I stopped taking it after just over 5 weeks because I completely lost my sense of taste. From what I've read online, it might not come back for 6-8 weeks -- or possibly never ??. Definitely not worth it for a little fungus on my big toe! I was ok with switching to mostly decaf coffee because of the extreme jitters caused be the terbinafine, and I was willing to tolerate the minor digestive troubles it caused, but this loss of taste is awful! Now I'm reading reviews from people complaining about anxiety and depression caused by terbinafine, & I wonder if it's the reason I've been generally miserable lately? I don't recommend terbinafine unless your nail fungus is really bad & you've tried absolutely everything else! Maybe you'll be lucky & not experience the side effects.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication from my podiatrist. After 2 weeks of taking it, I have moderate nausea all day, and complete loss of appetite. It has also made my anxiety worse, and has caused my AFIB, to come out of remission, and now I have it multiple times a day. I would recommend staying way clear of this drug. I would rather live with toe nail fungus or athletes foot than deal with these side effects.

I have gone my whole life without ever being prescribed a medicine that gave me bad side effects ...until now. I have been taking terbinafine for a stupid nail fungus on one toe that doesn't even look that bad...lol. Anyway, long story short ...weirdest past couple weeks of my life. I thought I was just sick ...but two days after I decided to stop taking it ...I'm finally starting to feel like myself. I've been nauseous 90% of the time the past week or so ...and eating almost nothing at all. Read More Read Less

I tried to take this Terbinafine 250 mg oral med to help cure toenail fungus but 2 hours after taken the second pill on the second day, taken 24 hours apart I developed low grade fever, and headache. The next morning my mouth taste like metal, nausea, and dark (tea-colored) urine. I decided that it is not worth the risk. 12 hours after the 2rd pill my fever was gone and 36 hours after the 2rd pill my headache is gone but I drank 106 FL OZ of water to clear this out of my system. This is not worth the risk in my opinion. Read More Read Less

After about 3 months of oral Terbinafine, my joints all over my body hurt so badly it was even painful to roll over in bed. Thinking that it must be something other than the Terbinafine since I’d been taking it for so long with no problem, I came across one other similar complaint connected to Terbinafine. I stopped taking it. I was completely better after 2 weeks off the med. Never again!

In February 2022 I took one tablet. The next day I woke up with a rash on my face, mainly on my nose. NOW, APRIL 2023, I STILL HAVE IT. No GP believes it is the same next-morning rash, and just give me creams for pimples, which have no effect. I can't get any relevant treatment. Desperate and very worried.

I started taking this medication with no side effects until 2 weeks in. I lost all taste in my mouth. First it was a metallic taste followed by all salt taste. I discontinued the medication immediately and reached out to my doctor. They say the time frame of getting taste back could be 4 weeks to 1 year. Very disappointed!!!!

I was really reluctant to start this medication (because of the alleged side effects) however after taking the plunge i can say it has done an amazing job. I am 27, healthy and active with a good diet. One of my big toe nails was entirely infected with a fungal infection and this spread to my other nails over time. I tried all the over the counter ointments (tea tree oil/Vics vapour rub etc) and varnishes as well as getting Amorolfine prescribed. I used these lacquer's/ointments over the course of about 4/5 years but these efforts were futile and the infection got worse. I finally got Terbinafine prescribed in Nov 2022, i took the medication for 4 months (one tablet a day), finishing the course 2 weeks ago. Today, all my toe nails are as good as new, i am so pleased with the results. I might have been one of the lucky ones as i didn't experience any side effects. The medication did its job and didn't cause me any trouble. I back this medication all the way, just make sure you maintain a healthy lifestyle whilst you're on it, avoid alcohol, eat and drink well and exercise, i did all of the above and have nothing bad to say about Terbinafine despite its reputation. I am no longer embarrassed about being barefoot, which is something you really appreciate for holidays etc. My older brother also completed a 6 month course of Terbinafine and he too reported no side effects. My advice would be try it, and if you start to suffer any side effects you can always stop, but if you never try it then you'll never know. Read More Read Less

I have been fearful of taking this medicine for some many years due to the intensity of it and possible harm. Therefore I have exhausted every cream, nail polish treatment, holistic approach, all of it. I have dealt with the toenail fungus for going on 20 years now and it is slowing spreading. I finally decided to try the lamisil (terbinifine) oral medication. I detoxed my body from all alcohol and cleaned up my diet for 2 weeks prior to starting. The first couple days I had a little headache and some queasiness. After that I was golden. Drank a ton of water to make sure I was always flushing out my liver. Literally zero side effects for 26 days! On day 26 I woke up itching all over my body, my lips swelled up, and I had these large welts that were hot to the touch. I had to stop treatment and I am so disappointed as I just started to notice my toenails growing in clear. Now I am on a round of steroids to alleviate the allergic reaction. Really bummed and wonder if I’ll ever be able to get rid of this problem of toenail fungus. Read More Read Less

2 months in and toenail fungus still there and I now have absolutely no taste. Back to the doctor to try alternatives and await blood test for any liver damage... no-one mentioned this before I took them.

I had gotten a bad case of fungus under one nail due to an "athletes foot" infection 30 years ago. Over the decades it had spread to all other toenails, and I was hopeless and really had a hard time "cutting" my toenails every 4 weeks or so as they were weird shapes and thick. My podiatrist was so confident in this medication that told me he would "prescribe Terbafine to (my) dad, brother or myself," and I decided to take the chance. I am 52 years old and in relatively good health. Upon starting my course of medication I felt "flushing" and a little light headed in the mornings as a result of taking the pills each day with breakfast. One thing which helped was to have two huge glasses of water first thing after I took my pill. (I had a 12 week or 84 pill cycle) Once the 84 or so days passed, not much had changed from my perspective, and a month later I went to my podiatrist again and at the appointment asked for an additional round of the medication. He said, to my disbelief, that things were going great with killing off my infection. 8 months later, I realize he was correct. It appears the infection is completely gone. Now, I am not naiive, and am still holding my breath, but things look normal (?) and completely clear when I look at my toes. I am so grateful. One way I know I must no longer have an infection is that whereas before I had to cut my toenails every four weeks or so (I believe this was my immune response attempting to "get our the invader"). Now, I can go months without cutting them, and they are seemingly growing normally. I used this medication in combination with a "polish-on" topical treatment, which was prescribed by my podiatrist, and the combination seemed to work quite well. There will be a financial cost to throwing out all of your socks, and (as I did) getting new shoes, as well as paying for the medications, but it was a commitment I was ready to make. I know this medication isn't for everyone, and that some have had terrible side effects as a result of taking it, but it was really a great thing for me. I hope this review gives some people hope and answers some questions you may have. Good luck and God Bless.Read More Read Less

My wife took terbinafine for six weeks. At about that time she lost her ability to taste but smell was unaffected. Her doctor discontinued the med. After about 10 days taste suddenly came back. She is a great cook and was freaked out about not being able to taste her product.

Many people seem to have terrible reactions to this medication; not so for me. I took it 20 years ago for fungal toenails and within 3 months I had beautiful nails. I had no negative side-effects whatsoever. In 2022 I damaged my nailbed again, this time on a long walk, and the fungus returned. I'm now taking Terbinifine again and am two-thirds through the course and my nails are clearing brilliantly. Again, no side-effects. It's probably worth a try as you may be one of the population who is perfectly fine using the drug. If you have a bad reaction, simply stop using, and finger and toenails crossed you find something else that works for you. Read More Read Less

I took this medication 20 or so years ago. The toenail fungus went away even though I had to stop taking because my liver was being affected. The fungus came back so I decided to give it another try. Didn't have problems with liver but my sense if taste is completely gone. Everything taste like cardboard and always a salty taste in my mouth. Even water tastes salty. I took my last pill on 7-23-22 with no improvement. Sweets are especially disgusting. I am terrified it will not come back.Read More Read Less
