I had thick, yellow and black nails for years but was reluctant to take the medication due to cost and possible side effects. When it infected my right thumb I decided to take the risk and AM DELIGHTED that I did. The generic version is very affordable and I had no side effects what so ever. I also had thick cracked heals. Two years later I still have healthy feet and nails and can now wear sa...
My first dosage ingested at 2pm on full stomach. a hour walk followed. at 5pm had 1 bottle of light beer. 9pm had pizza dinner. 10 pm face feels numb/swollen (i.e. not normal). kind of worries me.

After the 2nd dose, I threw up & have felt bad for the last 7 days. Tummy aches, nausea, more tummy aches-I mean the stomach-the pain comes & goes. I’ve not been able to take my thyroid supplement, antidepressants, BP, meds or supplements, because of nausea. I’ve not reported it to my MD. Idk why, I’ve not really felt like fooling with anyone or anything. Just feeling sad & sick of feeling like this. Not worth it. The toenail fungus will have to stay until I find a better treatment.

I had tried every natural remedy for years, but slowly my toes just got worse. I was nervous to take this medication because I certainly don’t want to damage my liver. I’m very healthy, 54 yrs old. I had no side effects and though for the first month I wondered if it was doing anything, I then started to see positive results. 4 months and my nails looked cute enough to wear flip flops on vacation! 5 months and no one but me would know there was anything wrong with the nails. I expect in another 2 Boggs they’ll look like new. I think I watched every YouTube on the subject and read the studies too. A number of Dr’s said that it worked just as well to cycle in Ann’s of the drug. So I used it for a month and took a week off. Then two weeks and took a week off. And so on. I plan to take for two days and then off a week and then two days until I run out. I did also apply topical terbinafine at the same time, got rid of old shoes, and use foot powder in my socks now. If you’re healthy and don’t have trouble stopping alcohol for awhile, I think this is a very effective treatment. I’m over the moon about my cute toes!! Good luck!Read More Read Less

I was given a prescription for Terbinafine for my fingernail (a sudden onset in the middle of the nail) after my DR (UK) insisted I have a liver function test. I have had toenail issues for years. This is working for both. I am 56 days in. At about 40 days I suddenly lost elements of my sense of taste (but not smell) and, oddly, lost strength in the gym (dropping a 42kg dumbbell onto my chest).
I am slowly recovering the latter, pushing it in the gym, but all I have read indicates that taste won't come back til I finish the course.
I THINK I'm about halfway through the treatment (just got another 56 tablets) but, despite the side effects, am determined to finish as it looks v effective on hand and feet (it may also be reducing my cracked heels)Read More Read Less

Slow to see improvement but 14 days in my scalp stopped itching. Bald spot still a little red but no longer spreading. Reading reviews was the biggest challenge I fortunately have not had any problems worth mentioning. I will complete the 30 day prescription.

I took this tablet daily for six months. No problems with side effects that I’m aware of but I see no results as the nail is still coming out white and crumbly. Very mixed feelings about continuing with it as it tastes awful and it’s been six months!

I honestly don't know if it worked or not. I've been dealing with athletes foot for 20 years thanks to the NAVY. I suffer from a skin condition called focal hyperhidrosis, which means severe sweating. In my case, the sweating is non-stop in the feet. Mix all that sweat with bacteria and fungus and you have a stinky situation. It has really destroyed me mentally. Anyways, I finally took action and went to a dermatologist and I was prescribed Naftin topical gel, and oral terbinfine ( take for 1 week a month for 6 months). My first week of taking terbinfine I was fine but 3 weeks later I felt super weird. I was feeling sick and felt like I was having an anxiety attack everytime I tried to sleep. To make matters worse, I had this weird stabbing sensation right under my right chest. I googled this and it says I could have some bleeding in my liver, but all the research I found said it will heal on its own once I quit taking the oral terbinfine. I don't have nail fungus...shockingly. Also in week three I had restless leg syndrome. Not sure if that is associated with the terbinfine. I'm just going to use the topical Naftin instead. I say go for it and hope you don't have side effects. Good luck everyone!!!Read More Read Less

I had a nail infection for at least 20 years. Liver enzymes remained normal throughout treatment. I adhered to the regime and all nails have grown back beautifully. I regret that I didn’t do this years earlier. Very important to have enzymes checked before.

I took this medication for about 4 weeks and the overwhelming nausea got so bad I couldn't walk around without getting nauseous and I started getting headaches. It doesn't list as a side effect but my blood pressure rose to the 170-180 range. This medication should be banned!

Saw podiatrist for nail fungus after retiring.
Filled the script with a 3 months supply of 250 mg. Terbinafine. I took one ( only 1), within hours i felt like i had a bruised kidney.
I was awakened during the night by the pain.
I called my GP, who wrote up a liver enzyme test. By an incredible chance my GP had me do the same blood work 2 days earlier as a 5 yr physical test. The test taken 2 days before showed my liver was healthy and below the levels of alarm.
2 days after the single dose of Terbinafine were 10 to 20 times higher. IE Gamma was 30 now its 675. My ALT was 17 now its 114. I quit it after the first dose, my podiatrist says it will take 3-6 months to return to regular levels. Podiatrist said i was that 1 in a 1000 guy who has a reaction.
So, ask your podiatrist for a before test and a test for soon after.

I had a fungal thumbnail develop quite rapidly - it became mis-sharpened and crumbly. I started to take Turbinafine daily for 3 months and it has completely cleared the infection. I noticed the results after a week and the nail started to heal and grow out before completed the course. It also cleared toenail infections that I had for many years. I had no side-effects from the medication. I was extremely happy with the medication.

Had obvious toenail fungus (one toenail-the big toe on R foot- was thick and turned half-white-two podiatrists confirmed this diagnosis). Second dr. cut white piece off toenail and trimmed other(small toes) and prescribed terbinafine. I started having headaches (never get them) and sometimes nausea, stomach pain, taste "issues"...but kept taking it until two days before end of second mo. I developed an itchy rash, had a few hives, plus a red rash on legs. I had recently (coincidentally) been to a hematologist for "easy bruising." He stated that platelets were "defective" and not clotting blood properly (diag. through blood tests). After the red itchy rash (down L arm and chest, plus tiny red raised dots(in patches) on legs appeared (petachie??) I stopped using drug for fear of liver problems (after reading other's reviews and info. regarding side effects of this drug). Hopefully, no permanent damage and hope rash disappears (itching is driving me crazy-am using anti-itch OTC meds. Cannot confirm at this time if fungus is cleared...until I see dr. again... My new PRC doctor saw my toes as I had sandals on and my toenails are yellowed as I have always have kept nails polished with dark polish, nailpolish can cause nails to yellow!! This new dr made diagnosis of toenail fungus and prescribed Terbinafine so I took for 14 days when I realized something not right was getting more depressed and my anxiety disorder seemed worse and I couldn't figure out why my appetite decreased as nothing tasted good any more and strange taste in mouth!! I researched side effects of Terbinafine and I was having all the side effects badly!! I stopped taking this horrible medication immediately, reported to the doctor! I should never have been prescribed such a medication with these side effects as I suffer from MDD and GAD, I had a liver resection for cancer 14 years ago therefore should never of been prescribed such med.
Doctors need to pay attention to your medical history and the side effects of medications they prescribe! Thankfully I researched and stopped drug myself! This med almost killed me sickening me worse!!!! Read More Read Less

I was very worried about taking this for 3 months but stuck to it as had a nail infection for many years and nothing topical worked in the end. I’m so glad I did and stuck with it as finally after years my nails have grown back pink again. Big toe still had a a little way to go, but think I’m about 3/4 months it will be all gone. No adverse side effects other than a little more hair shedding after 3 months but this has calmed.

Started this for sudden bad fungal big toe nail infection, which I think had been caused by athletes foot. On Day 1 headaches started, then constant dizziness and diarrhoea every day, after a month. I also felt really unusually low in 1st few days which I’m now thinking was probably this. I’ve stopped it now for 2 days and feel the side effects are way too scary for me to continue. I still don’t feel quite right yet.

I started taking this about 5 weeks ago for a toenail fungus. I was supposed to be on it for 3 months. I won’t make it that long. I stopped the day before yesterday. I did start to see improvement in clear nail growth BUT the hair that’s finally gotten healthier after I stopped lightening it and was growing better bc my thyroid is under control now is falling out at a record rate. I will say that having weight loss surgery could have also contributed to it, but this probably exacerbated things. I have my blood work checked regularly due to thyroid and surgery and my numbers were perfect. I can only say this medication made a bad situation way worse. I’ve made an appt to chop my hair and start over. I’ve stopped taking the medication and I’ve purchased 2 wigs. I would rather lose the nail completely than lose my hair. Now I’m left with trying to start from scratch bc of this side effect and my dr never mentioned it. As a matter of fact, when I called her about it, she said she never heard of that side effect. I’m devastated. Finally getting healthy, feeling good about myself and the clothes I’m in and now, my hair! Read More Read Less

I stopped taking it after just over 5 weeks because I completely lost my sense of taste. From what I've read online, it might not come back for 6-8 weeks -- or possibly never ??. Definitely not worth it for a little fungus on my big toe! I was ok with switching to mostly decaf coffee because of the extreme jitters caused be the terbinafine, and I was willing to tolerate the minor digestive troubles it caused, but this loss of taste is awful! Now I'm reading reviews from people complaining about anxiety and depression caused by terbinafine, & I wonder if it's the reason I've been generally miserable lately? I don't recommend terbinafine unless your nail fungus is really bad & you've tried absolutely everything else! Maybe you'll be lucky & not experience the side effects.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication from my podiatrist. After 2 weeks of taking it, I have moderate nausea all day, and complete loss of appetite. It has also made my anxiety worse, and has caused my AFIB, to come out of remission, and now I have it multiple times a day. I would recommend staying way clear of this drug. I would rather live with toe nail fungus or athletes foot than deal with these side effects.

I have gone my whole life without ever being prescribed a medicine that gave me bad side effects ...until now. I have been taking terbinafine for a stupid nail fungus on one toe that doesn't even look that bad...lol.
Anyway, long story short ...weirdest past couple weeks of my life. I thought I was just sick ...but two days after I decided to stop taking it ...I'm finally starting to feel like myself. I've been nauseous 90% of the time the past week or so ...and eating almost nothing at all.

I tried to take this Terbinafine 250 mg oral med to help cure toenail fungus but 2 hours after taken the second pill on the second day, taken 24 hours apart I developed low grade fever, and headache. The next morning my mouth taste like metal, nausea, and dark (tea-colored) urine. I decided that it is not worth the risk. 12 hours after the 2rd pill my fever was gone and 36 hours after the 2rd pill my headache is gone but I drank 106 FL OZ of water to clear this out of my system. This is not worth the risk in my opinion. Read More Read Less

After about 3 months of oral Terbinafine, my joints all over my body hurt so badly it was even painful to roll over in bed. Thinking that it must be something other than the Terbinafine since I’d been taking it for so long with no problem, I came across one other similar complaint connected to Terbinafine. I stopped taking it. I was completely better after 2 weeks off the med. Never again!
