MY OPINION WHICH APPLIES TO ME: This is a dangerous, very effective drug for my afib but I am afraid of it. Trial and error I found out that by CONTROLLING high blood pressure ELIMINATION of excessive dietary salt, added potassium and magnesium supplements, REDUCED my afib attacks by 90%. Also to be avoided are chronic infections such as bad teeth. I absolutely must monitor and control my blood pr...

Was having 2-4 A-Fib incidents a year. One time 2 in one month. I have been on this med 8 months and to date have not had an incident. It did affect my Thyroid, meds have controlled that.

Works well, perfect heart rhythm for 5 months now, no serious side effects (only slight double vision and skin/sun sensitivity). Intend to use it for less than a year until ablation.

58 afib not controlled with other meds. Other than being tired and occasional rapid heart beat? This med has worked well for me. While I haven't experienced any side effects, I am hoping to discontinuing the med after an ablation. I'm afraid of long term effects....

I had a cardiac arrest and was given an ICD.Three years later I was feeling lightheaded so GP put me on a beta blocker.Within a month my device went off and my Cardiologist doubled my dose of Bisoporol. I hated how they made me feel so the Cardiologist thought he would try me with Amiodarone. Worst experience of my life!I started to become breathless, very tired, developed hypothyroidism and palpitations! I have never felt so bad in all of my life! It is a horrible poison that should be banned. I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy!Read More Read Less

I have a/fib and have failed Rythmol, Metoprolol, Tykosin and Sotalol and I have had two ablations. I have been on Amiodarone 200 mg once daily for 11 months and my biggest complaints are insomnia and sun sensitivity. The medication worked in the beginning, then I would have occasional a/fib episodes. Now the a/fib is more frequent and I have stopped taking it. I am now in a/fib full time and will see my Electrophysiologist this week. I am 68 years old and I don't think another procedure will help.Read More Read Less

I had severe reactions from this drug and would not take it again. Skin rash and sun sensitivity so bad I couldn't go out. Then gout attack and carpal tunnel. I am able to keep the gout in check but the carpal tunnel went from the left hand that was acute and required hand splint and then went to my right hand. This is now chronic. I was on the drug 7 months and am now off it 5 months but still with effects. They should list caution in the star rating.

I had a triple bypass and an aortic valve replacement 5 weeks ago. I had a short bout of a-fib post op which I guess isn't uncommon. My cardio sent me home on amiodarone 200mg twice a day for 2 weeks and then once/day after that. I'm 5 weeks post op now and the good news is that I haven't gone back into a-fib. But I have a terrible time sleeping at night, I'm very sensitive to cold, feel very fatigued and my arthritis had flared up a lot. Hard to know how much of all this is the fault of amiodarone but I can't wait to get off of it. Read More Read Less

I have several things wrong w/ my heart now adding to the list "bijaminy" along w/ magnesium & hypopotessemia. I've only been on this med for 7 days now 200 mg 3 times daily for 4 days & slowly taper off which definitely helped out a lot but then developed something in my throat- hospital says my lungs were at 92% but it's persisting. Other meds while taking- cardvedilol 3.125 mg twice daily, enalepearal maleate (vasotec),calcium elemental 500mg twice daily, and famotidine 20 mg. * In the hospital on hemporine shots too but unsure of the ccs. CT was normal, ecko was okay, potassium came back up, kidneys fine, weight 113 pounds (height 4'11) Lungs 92% but throat still persisting so I'm not a doctor but this throat thing I don't know.......Read More Read Less

I went on this drug the first of March, 2015. One 200mg twice a day. I had about every side effect you can have. Sleeping 16 hours a day. Felt sick to my stomach most of the time. Started having vision problems. After a few weeks I started having breathing difficulty that became pneumonia. If I walked just a little I was out of breath. I got off of it by the 1st of June. I went to my dentist today. Last year I had some fillings but no cavities. He looked in my mouth and stopped and ask me what I had been doing. My teeth are falling apart. Admittedly they weren't perfect but I did maintain them. Now because of the damage this drug has apparently done, I will need to pull all the uppers and get a denture. The bottoms don't look as bad, but they are in question. He ask if I had experienced "dry mouth". I was severe when taking amiodarone. Now, thanks to that drug, I will have upper false teeth. Can also put deposits in your eyes and affect you lungs. DON'T USE this drug unless it's last result you have . Had mitral valve repair and modified Maze open heart surgery and then aff all heart medications

Put on this med in Feb. 2014 while having mitral valve surgery and procedure to correct AFib. I had just about every side effect and thought I was going nuts. Already had a possible thyroid problem and this increased it. Hair was falling out. Nothing stopped the AFib til I had a cardioversion and I told the doc to get me off the drug. After 5 months the AFib came back but I refuse to go back on Amiodorone. I think the thyroid med contributed to it coming back. My regular doc has lowered the thyroid med dose and next week I'm going into the hospital for 3 days to get started on another drug -- Sotalol --- and have another cardioversion. I will never take Amiodorone again. There are way too many side effects.Read More Read Less

Stay away from this drug; it takes care of afib, but causes severe side affects. My mother was on this drug for a little over 6 months before going off of it. Her doctor also discovered that its toxicity was doubled because of a depression med. she was taking after her heart attack. Why did her heart specialist who prescribed it not know this dangerous drug interaction? She had bruising(they ignored), severe burping followed by nausea, severe dizziness, tiredness. She has been off the drug for 4 months and her doctor said it could take 9 to get the toxins out of her body. If you are on antidepressants you are at risk of doubling the dose and causing toxic levels. This is a horrible drug and I would never go on it! We almost lost her in December due to low sodium just as another described.Read More Read Less

Started this drug 3-9-15. one 200mg twice a day. Had the doc reduce to one tab a day in mid April. Was making me sleep 16 hrs a day. Felt bad in general. Was feeling bad, went to my family doc May 12, 15. Couldn't breath well. had oxygen level of below 88. Never had any problem before. I felt like it was killing me. Cardio doc tool me off it. Been off a week now and getting better. I firmly believe this drug would have done permanent damage or worse if I continued on it. I will die before I would ever take it again. Be very careful, It can be dangerous. It take a month to leave your system. It saturates every organ. Those are the exact words from the doctor. Read More Read Less
