Although this medication was easy to use and stopped the nausea completely I was fully unprepared for the rare, and extremely frightening side effect I experienced. I had taken the medication with no problem for a bit when out of the blue my muscles started to contract in a bizarre twisting motion until I was horrifyingly paralyzed in what's known as a dystonic reaction. As if this were not enoug...

Don't even think of taking this drug! I took it for three days in the hospital after I got food poisioning, but after I got home I got lock jaw from it. Husband brought me home and went back to work before my symptoms started. I called him, screaming in pain to come home. When he got home I was having to hold the inside of my jaws open with my hands to keep them from collapsing. I almost comm...

BIG NO! I get extreme chronic migraines and they include this in my migraine cocktail. Or used to I should say... the only way to describe how it made me feel was, anytime I take it I feel "dead" and like I am looking over my body. Or like I'm watching myself in a dream.. I don't understand how it can be used to treat anxiety because it gives me the worst anxiety I've ever experienced. I start ripping my IV's out and had to get strapped down to the hospital bed once. It is the worst feeling I have probably ever experienced. I now have it listed as an allergen so they literally can't give it to me. Read More Read Less

DO NOT TAKE COMPAZINE. This was give me to me for nausea. Thirty seconds into it being put into my iv I lost my ability to speak for myself. I was in an indescribable state of panic and anxiety. I had thought of escaping the ER. I didn’t think I was going to make it out alive if I was given anything else or any more of that drug. I shook uncontrollably for over a day. I’ve not slept a full night of sleep since and it’s been a month. I now have a fear of any medicine. It has completely traumatized me and changed my life. I have NEVER EVER felt this way before in my life. There are MANY other reviews just like mine. Read More Read Less

I was given this medicine ER for nausea. At first I felt fine so they released me and I was in the waiting room trying to find a ride while I was in the waiting room I was struck with a complete panic more than I’ve ever had before in my whole life I knew something was wrong right away so I ran up to the front desk and I was like help me I’m having allergic reaction and they were like no that’s not what you’re doing it’s the drug it causes these side effects and then before I knew it I couldn’t move my legs and I was having a seizure like thing I fell to the ground in the waiting Room of the hospital. my legs were stiff and I couldn’t move them and I couldn’t even get off the ground and I was screaming help me help me and the nurse wouldn’t even help me and then she finally walked me over to a bed because I wouldn’t get off the floor. Where I laid there tossing and turning and no matter what I did I couldn’t get comfortable I feel like I needed to jump out of my body and my legs were going completely stiff at the moment I thought I was never gonna walk again and I scream to the nurse help me and she said no that’s just a reaction to the medicine you’re fine and I felt like I was dying right thereShe let me lay there in agony and finally she took my blood pressure told me I could leave so I stumbled to the waiting room and got an Uber and went home I’ve never been so traumatized by anything in my whole lifeRead More Read Less

Was given to me as part of a migraine cocktail. Wish I had dealt with the migraine instead. This medicine is NOT worth it. The side effects of this medication are incredibly severe and debilitating. It gives you akathisia, which is a state of extreme fear, anxiety, physical restlessness, insomnia, and psychosis. Compazine is prochlorperazine which is an antipsychotic, meaning it's typically used for schizophrenia and the like. I had to be given Ativan and Benadryl in order to combat the effects and these calming medications only worked to a small extent. If you are getting a migraine cocktail, PLEASE consider asking for a different combination of medications that does not include prochlorperazine. The side effects of Compazine/PCZ are incredibly painful and terrifying and will linger for days to weeks.Read More Read Less

PLEASE BEWARE OF COMPAZINE IF YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH ANXIETY! Yesterday, I was given this drug at the ER as part of a migraine cocktail along with benadryl. I felt fine at first, but a few hours later, I was more anxious than I can remember! I have struggled with anxiety for most of my adult life, so I know how anxiety feels in my body, but this was a completely different feeling than how anxiety usually feels. I felt like I wanted to rip my skin off and I was shaking uncontrollably. I ended up having to go back to the ER late last night, where they gave me a Xanax to calm down. Thankfully the Xanax helped, but it was a hassle to have to go all the way back to the ER in order to get it. And to add insult to injury, my migraine has persisted despite having had the migraine cocktail! Will make sure to never have compazine again in the future. Read More Read Less

I was given Compazine when I was about 9 years old due to constant vomiting. I had a very severe reaction to this drug. I remember being in school sitting at my desk when all of a sudden it was like I couldn’t control my pencil in my hand at all. I was attempting to take a spelling test at the time. I remember my writing looking so messy and my hand wasn’t doing what my brain was telling it to. I also remember feeling really weak, like I could barely press the pencil to the paper. Then I remember my jaw tensing up and feeling funny. Later I’d look in the mirror to see my jaw completely pushed to one side of my face. It was stuck like that. I somehow managed to go the whole school day like that without anyone noticing. It wasn’t until my mom picked me up from my babysitter’s house and took one look at me and immediately knew something was wrong. By that time, I could barely speak or move my mouth. I also was having trouble walking and my mom had to carry me a few blocks to the nearest medical center. The doctors there immediately called an ambulance so I could go to the ER. The paramedic gave me an IV and the next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital. I was told that I had a seizure. I also experienced tardive dyskinesia. Since I was so young, the experience was weird and strange, but at no point did I feel scared. I felt too confused to be scared. I remember this experience so vividly, even to this day, and I’m now 28 years old. This can be a very dangerous medication. If your doctor prescribes this to you please observe your symptoms carefully. Read More Read Less

I took this drug through IV with a migraine cocktail (after a month straight migraine) with Benadryl and Toradol. This medication has made both my sister and I (who also suffers from migraines like me) overcome our nausea/vomiting but makes us both *extremely* irritable. The Benadryl made me simply feel exhausted but I remember feeling frustrated about how cold it was in the hospital. I was unable to quit moving/ get comfortable. Overall, I would still recommend taking this in combination with a calming drug like Benadryl.Read More Read Less

I was given Compazine many years ago for nausea/vomiting. I already have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis, and other issues. So when suddenly my jaw locks up, and I get all shaky and hot, my poor Mom thinks I'm having a stroke or something!! My heart starts to beat harder than ever too. We go to the ER and they give me an IV with some med that quickly got the Compazine out of my system. But what I will never forget is what the Doctor said to us, that bad reactions happen to 75% of the people that take Compazine. WHAT?!?! That is INSANE!!!! This medication should not be used or prescribed EVER again!!!!Read More Read Less

My Dr. prescribed Compazine for me after a sick visit with complaints of nauseousness. About 1hr after my 1st dose I didnâ??t feel so good. I was talking like my tongue was in the way but I didnâ??t notice. This was the beginning of things that my brain wouldnâ??t pick up on. Next, my neck was locked in an upward position with my eyes looking back as far as they could. After that my whole body was stiff. My toes curled, arms crossed over themselves with my wrists and fingers bent in. I felt like my whole body had a cramp. I couldnâ??t speak by the time the ambulance came. The hospital injected me immediately but after a few minutes the cramping came back again. With no way to communicate, I made my peace with God. I was 18 at the time. Now 47. Last thing I remembered was a nurse asking me if I was ok. I couldnâ??t answer. Just a tear rolled down my cheek. She mouthed some foul words and I was out. I believe this was another time God had spared me as he does every day I open my eyes once more. I also believe that this drug and anything of its kind should NEVER BE USED. Read More Read Less

Yes, it stops you from vomiting, but the side effects are a thousand times less pleasant. (And I say that as a former emetophobe.) This drug is a literal nightmare. The physical discomfort and psychological anguish I felt while taking Compazine was indescribable, and something that no one seeking medical treatment should have to endure. I can only properly convey the intensity of my side effects using the following comparison: In the past, I’ve quit heroin without medical intervention. The misery of cold turkey opiate withdrawal was only marginally worse than the agitation, restlessness, cramping, dizziness, paranoia, panic, and utter hopelessness I experienced while using Compazine. I am fully aware of how dramatic all of this sounds. However, I am not typically a dramatic person, and I have a very high tolerance for physical and mental discomfort. This medication really was THAT bad. Use at your own risk. Read More Read Less

Spouse and I both have taken Compazine for nausea. Works WONDERFUL. No side effects for either of us and we have had this drub to combat IBS and GERD issues for years. Nausea hits at any time and Compazine has controlled it fast.

It worked at relieving the nausea but after taking it for nearly 2 weeks I developed side effects. Extreme restlessness combined with exhaustion at the same time and on and off blurry vision. Two days after discontinuing it got chest pain with a high heart rate and ended up in the ER. 3 days later began having anxiety attacks and ended up getting prescribed Ativan to counteract the side effects. Don't know when the side effects will finally stop.

Oh I had severe reaction to this, mouth tongue face jaw twisted violently, a few times even my legs went haywire, did thousands of dollars of damage to my teeth if I could not grab a towel to put between them fast enough!! The pills took a couple hours to have the reaction it wasn't until I had the injection that it happened quickly and I put 2 2 together. Several Drs said it was not possible, got tested for everything from epilepsy to lyme disease to parathyroid and one opinion even suggested it was "all in my head". I found I am also allergic to all the phenothyazines and phenothiazides. There are other non related drugs out there that worked when I was nauseous after surgery. I hope my story helps someone else who also gets told the compazine is not the culprit !!Read More Read Less

I started taking this due to taking Chemotheapy medicine, let me tell you I have never had such a bad reaction to a drug in my life. My face started to draw to one side and I couldn't close my mouth. Had to be taken to th ER and given like 4 different drugs to reverse the side effects. Steer clear of this medication.
