I am not one to take prescription drugs. Having said that, after 4 years of increasing sexual pain I finally trusted my doctor in her recommendation for Vagifem. Pleasantly, I found that within the first week I had greatly reduced pain during intercourse. AND, during the 4 years when it was painful, I started having Urinary Tract Infections, UTIs. Very painful! I waited a year to review. I have o...
This is a question, when using this drug can my husband perform oral sex on me safely? I cannot find this answer any where i look thanks

I began using Vagifem 20 years ago after a hysterectomy, & oophorectomy which led to vaginal atrophy and it’s painful symptoms. Vagifem removed the pain involved with vaginal atrophy and also seems to have stopped urethritis incidents. Since starting Vagifem, I have had extremely minimal UTIs compared to prior. I stopped using it for a while 2 years ago, and the pain of atrophy & urethritis returned. I don’t want to ever have to be off it again.

Although vaginal soreness improved. The bacterial vaginosis remained .
But the worst effect was the horrendous discharge once the pessary melted. Akin to liquid chalk that set like concrete and cemented your pants to your vagina!
Needless to say, I stopped using it.

I know I am prone to bladder infections, but I was never warned that the Vagifem pessaries would cause UTI’s. I have now been on antibiotics for 6 weeks for persistent infections caused by Vagifem. I will never take it again.

I'm 62 and post-menopausal. I've been taking Vagifem for almost two years. It helped the vaginal atrophy only a little (less burning) . However, after all this time, I still could not endure the insertion of a speculum or pap test. General anesthetic was necessary for a pap. Needless to say, intercourse was impossible.
After a couple months, I began experiencing debilitating pains all over. I needed help getting dressed each morning. Swollen legs, swollen veins in legs. Diminished urination, very high blood pressure, heart palpitations. Blood clot in leg . Swollen face and abdomen, which were much worse in the mornings. Gained weight in spite of a healthy low carb diet. Gastric symptoms and severe body pains led to sleep loss and exhaustion. with uterine, ovarian, and breast cancers in my family I was very concerned about taking estrogen. My doctor reassured me that the estrogen "remained in the vagina" and would NOT cause cancer. I am being tested for breast cancer after thickened tissue was revealed in a mammogram.
In addition to the above symptoms I also experienced mental fog and poor memory that was getting worse. Others noticed these side effects.
I finally clued in that Vagifem may be causing these symptoms when I realized symptoms were much worse the day after a dose and began to subside until subsequent dose. As soon as I stopped Vagifem, the body pains completely disappeared, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, brain fog/poor memory were the first to return to normal. The remainder of the side effects disappeared soon after.
I am using a non-estrogen product that heals and moisturizes.

I was put on this medication for Atrophic Vagintis, dry burning feeling with menopause. I used this for 5 days, hair was falling out and it felt like being punched in the stomach, no sleep from pain. A lot of pressure in my stomach area, constipated. Not taking this, it is not positive at all.

I started this medication weeks ago. I am 75. I had a pelvic ultrasound and was told that I did not completely evacuate my bladder. About 67 mil was left behind, this led to UTI's. I used vagifem for 7 days, then twice a week. Since starting, I have bloating, irritation, inflammation (I think) and feel like I have been gang raped. It is painful urinating and I have pins and needles in my hands each time I do. Thankfully I am seeing my doctor tomorrow. I wish I had read these reviews before I started the medication. Just hope things get better now that I have ceased vagifem.Read More Read Less

Suffered with atrocious cystitis, GP prescribed Vagifem twice a week. Have been taking for three years nearly and cannot recommend highly enough. Changed my life. I can now go out without the fear of needing to go to the loo every few minutes and the stomach pains associated with cystitis have subsided .

This is a complaint. I was prescribed Vagifem vaginal inserts as I have severe vaginal atrophy. Your product is extremely painful to insert 8-10com into the vagina of a woman who has a dry and shrunken vagina, even if copious quantities of lubricant are used. If you are a man or a woman who has not used this product and who does not have vaginal atrophy, it would be like inserting a sharp object into your anus as far as 8cm, except I think the vagina is even more sensitive than the anus. Who on earth designed this product? It's a barbaric abomination.
It also had absulutely no positive effects on my symptoms, ie getting up to pee several times a night.
What a waste of money!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed vagifem for terrible pain in vagina and frequent urinating especially at night. I used it for 3 months and it resolved the issue but during the whole time of using it i had inner body tremors and heart palpitations not to mention headache and tummy pain. I stopped using them and it took several weeks to feel ok. A doctor then told me to try half a tablet and within 6 hours I had terrible tremors which I’ve been told was panic attacks, never will i use this again but my urinating problem is coming back so I’m trying pelvic floor exercises and moisturisers. Has anyone else experienced this Read More Read Less

I am 71 With quite bad GSM. I came off oral HRT at age 62 with much trepidation as I had been very pleased with it. After less than a year I developed a very sore vagina along with uti s, some nights I felt like crying with the discomfort,, intercourse was causing me to spot with blood. My Gp gave me Estriol cream which improved my symptoms considerably, however I did get gut problems with it and occasional bouts of diarrhoea. Last September when Gina 10 became available over the counter I decided to buy a box. On the whole I am pleased with it, however my only criticism is that sexually sensation has not improved, this May of course be my age, but it is disappointing. However high up in my vagina it is now at peace, so yes vagifem does work for atrophy.Read More Read Less

I wish I’d researched this medication ….I can’t say that Vagifem is responsible for my ailments but it’s certainly possible. My moods are flat, I’m getting extreme bloating and aching in the pelvic area which is affecting daily life. I also feel that I need to pee constantly. The one concern I have after reading these reviews is HAIR LOSS….I’ve lost 50% of my hair and the texture has changed for the worse. I will stop it as of now.

Been on vagifem for nearly 2 years. Worked very well i initially with bladder issues caused by prolapse. Last 7 months had light green discharge, UTIs and abdominal pain and recently blood spotting. Initially wasnt sure the cause because never had issues but after tests can only conclude is vagifem so coming off it
