I have been using Spiriva for a couple of years, switched to the easier use about a year ago. The medication works well for me. But even with a prescription drug plan I find the cost to be out site. Medicare allows a set amount of drug cost per year, I find myself in the donut hole by August each year. MD looking for a drug I can afford.

My Dr has prescribed Spiriva for my asthma and COPD however it is very difficult to use the cartridge keeps popping out and does not work have tried two separate cartridges same issues called the manufacturer and they were to call me back regarding the issues but never called back. Not worth the cost and aggravation to hard. To use.

I have COPD from Asbestosis. I haven't smoked cigs since 1985 when they hit $1 a pack. I have had very significant thickening and darkening of mucus. I have the reflex cough many times when trying to inhale, which means most of the dose was lost. Also, very dry throat & mouth, constantly feeling like mucus is stuck, but rarely comes out. Feels like constant choking or something stuck between sinus and throat causing a very unpleasant situation that is difficult to endure or change. As I look at the side effects, I have many, including new tingling in the lower legs, teeth having enamel issues with new decay, tiredness and lethargy. I am suspending this treatment and heading back to the VA for help. I really wanted this med to work, and it does help initially. However, after 3 months of proper use, these effects have become worse than the COPD before. Read More Read Less

I switched to Spiriva Respimat from the handihaler about six months ago. I was having great difficulty opening the capsules in foil due to diabetic neuropathy. It's a bit hard for me to set up. But the improvement in my breathing has been great. It is expensive, but it is covered by my dual Medicare/Medicaid plan 100%.

The medicine works great, but the cartridge is so poorly designed that half of it gets wasted. Considering this is a very expensive medication, the waste of the medicine due to the cartridge really needs a recall or something. I wish some lawyer, or somebody would take up the case of this design considering the cost.

I have what I consider mild COPD. had been using a rescue inhalator several times a day before starting with Spiriva. And recently I had begun wheezing and using the inhalator more frequently (3-4 times a day). I swim and was unable to do more than one lap of continuous swimming. With Spiriva I’m able to swim continuously with no breathing issue and I no longer wheeze. No side effects except dry mouth. No problem with the cartridges popping out, as some users report. I know that side effects of a drug can vary widely from person to person. I just wanted to share my own experience with it. Your experience may be totally different.Read More Read Less

Blurred vision, halos, dry mouth, ringing ears, joint flare-ups. My respirologist said it was not from this inhaler. And he prescribed it again and called in my prescription to the drug store and I paid for it. I went to another doctor and was prescribed atrovent which always work very well. My side effects from Spiriva are slowly clearing up because I stopped using it. It should be illegal to be sold, it's all about the money not the effectiveness of the Spiriva inhaler!

Excessive difficulty in setting up and operating. When you do get the button to press, the drug sprays out the side. Express Scripts, where I purchase this drug, now says that I can't go back to the normal Spiriva, which did work very well. Not happy at all with the maker of this drug! My lungs hurt from not being able to operate this device, or is it that the drug just doesn't work at all?
Doesn't work! Drug maker should go back to the drawing board and get it right next time!

Worst design ever! takes a mechanic to put this inhaler together and by then you could die. SMH. Will contact my Dr and tell him so. Should be taken off the market IMO

Poorly designed cartridge is difficult to use even after watching the online instructions. I see very little improvement in my breathing & with the increase in price, I will be informing my physician that I will no longer use Spiriva Respimat.

I have only been on this medication for 3 days, but I seriously have not experienced breathlessness throughout the entire day using this inhaler 1X a day in the morning when I wake up. I forget that I struggle to breath!! I previously used albuterol a few times a day to avoid labored breathing, especially when wearing a mask inside a store. Today, I was having a procedure that monitored my pulsox and it was reading 99...This has been a life changer for me!!

My son was given this to try, replacing his flutiform and ventolin, he said it was useless. Suffering from asthma myself I decided to give it a go, absolutely useless. Like the device though, its pretty cool! But as for working? Def not.

Spiriva causes a reflex cough when I inhale it. So I must be missing some of the dose. Icing the back of the mouth/throat helps a bit but makes the experience time consuming and annoying.

I have been diagnosed with early onset of COPD. (I had no symptoms) Since I started taking it I have noticed a heaviness in my chest that I have never had before starting this medication.

The last two Rx refills look exactly like they always do. However upon inhalation there is a very strong taste/smell of soap.
