The complaints noted by others of this drug are frightening. The night sweats, mood swings, memory loss and others can be dismal, however, the suffering, the pain, uncomfortability and or health hazards of the disorder are just as dismal if not more so. Received Lupron IM injection in May. Now I have generalized arthralgia in hips, arms, back, neck, hands, legs, feet. I feel horrible. Everything hurts. And I still got my period. I just hope I can get cleared for my upcoming surgery date because Lupron isn’t working and is making me feel worse

I was given a shot of Lupron in December 2022 in preparation for a partial hysterectomy due to massive fibroids. The only side effect my doctor warned me about was hot flashes. She also pushed me to take the drug by scaring me. She said if I didn’t take it, my fibroids would be too large to remove laparoscopically, and I’d be forced to do an abdominal cut hysterectomy. I trusted her. I shouldn’t have. The hot flashes were the least of my issues with this drug. I fell into a depression so deep, that I maxed out on my dose of antidepressants and still felt suicidal. I gained 30lbs in the course of two months, and was suddenly diagnosed with high blood pressure. But worst of all, I began to have agonizing lower back pain almost immediately after taking the shot.
It is now almost six months later, and I’ve had my hysterectomy surgery, but almost nothing has changed. I’m still having unbearable pain in my lower back to the point that I can no longer walk for more than 15 minutes without having to sit down. I keep gaining more weight and now I can’t exercise effectively to lose it because I’m in constant agony unless I’m sitting or laying down. I’ve had to start taking medication for my high blood pressure, and I’m still having hot flashes even though I still have both of my ovaries. This medicine permanently ruined my hormone balance, and the joke of it all is that I never needed to take it in the first place. It turns out that it did absolutely nothing to shrink my fibroids before surgery, and my surgery was still able to be performed laparoscopically. I’m so unbelievably angry at my doctor for not being more knowledgeable about the potential permanent damage this drug can cause before pressuring me into taking it! Read More Read Less

From 16-19 my endometriosis pain was out of control. I would end up laying on the floor of random stores because of the pain. The endometriosis moved to other organs. At 19, I was recommended lupron. It saved my life. I still had 8 laparoscopy over the years to help with endometrial growth. In my 30s, I had 2 kids. My daughter is 19 and she is passing out from pain from cramps and her endometriosis. She started her first lupron injection after trying everything else to control the pain. For some people it works for others it might not. We have been the successes. Read More Read Less

In 1994, at age 15, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. The 3 options given to me by my gyn were: a laproscopy, get pregnant, or do nothing and deal with the pain and hopefully have children before a hysterectomy. I elected for the surgery. Afterwards i was still experiencing quite a bit of pain 30 days later so the 3 options i was given at that time were: induce menopause by getting lupron injections 1x a month for 6 months, get pregnant, or deal with the pain and again, hope to have children before a hysterectomy became necessary. 6 months later I was still experiencing pain and although the doctors were convinced the pain was in my head they put me back on birth control pills and for 1.5 years I continued straight without taking the break for my periods. It was great being in high school and no periods for 2 years. However, at almost 44 years old, I'm now convinced Lupron broke me somehow and I've been fighting mental health issues and physical ailments ever since.
I dealt with menopause for 6 months while in high school. I 12/10 do not recommend it. Read More Read Less

I am 66 yrs old, I took Lupron 1x monthly injections for about 6 months in my late 30’s as suggested by my gynecologist to help with severe monthly periods and clotting. I had 3 d&c, 2 laposcopic surgeries prior to my taking the drug. I immediately went into menopause after the 1st infection and started to have hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia and mood swings. After suffering for the 6 months, I stopped the injections. Unfortunately for me, the side effects of the drug never stopped. I had a hysterectomy at 45, I keep my ovaries, and the side effects continued and still have them today at 66. I strongly believe that because lupron put me in early menopause so young the side effects of the drug did something negative to my natural hormone system. I was never informed of any side effects of this drug by my doctor.Read More Read Less

Teeth broke in my early 20's after first round. Osteoporosis in 20's due to this. Have been on it 3 times. They keep pushing it even after hysterectomy. DO NOT TAKE TzhIS MEDICATION. Severe depression and hot flashes so bad I had to change clothes multiple times a day. Migraines and vomiting. Hard to keep work with these rounds this should not be legal at all. Was put on it for endometriosis and fibrosis, cysts, PCOS

In my 20s, I began having heavy, painful periods. My Gyno told me they would be that way until I had a child, but that birth control might help. I stopped BC after two years due to horrible mood swings, mystery kidney stones, hypertension, and hot flashes. In my 30s, I stopped using tampons altogether and went to pads-only because the flow was so heavy and there were too many accidents. I’m my early 40s, I was told I had mid-sized fibroids and it was suggested I either learn to live with the period pain until menopause or have them removed with the chance they could come back. In my late 40s, my blood pressure skyrocketed and I suffered a blood clot in my calf. My periods were painful (lots of Advil) and brown, and I had spotting throughout the month. After months of exams, I’m told I have four largish fibroids and endometriosis, with endometriomas on my ovaries with one no longer working. Lupron was suggested to help reduce the size of the fibroids and the endometriomas in prep for laparoscopic hysterectomy. Yes, I get hot flashes: roughly every half hour and when I eat or drink. Yes, I get night sweats that wake me up. Yes, I’ve had a couple of muscle spasms that last a day or so. My periods stopped after the first month/injection. Luckily, I have not suffered brain fog, severe mood swings, or depression like others report. I am using the mini pill for add-back, and I fortunately don’t have to get injections long-term.
With my goal in mind of having a more successful surgery (after 3 monthly injections) and reducing the chance of further anemia and blood clots, this drug is working very well for me. I can deal with the side effects for this limited time as I work with my doctors to bring an end to my years of (what has probably always been endometriosis) suffering.
I share this to help other women make more informed choices and set expectations. It’s not a perfect drug, but it might help you get to a better place. Read More Read Less

I was told it would reduce my endometriosis and prepare for ivf. From the time I got Lucrin I have experiencing sciatic pain down from my back to my legs amd brain fog and extreme fatiguewith hot flushes. I have had to take painkillers every few hours and can barely sleep. It's horrible. This drug needs to ne removed off the market. The pain has been driving me crazy.

I have multiple, large uterine fibroids. My gynecologist gave me three options lupron, uterine artery embolization or hysterectomy. Of course, I choose lupron while I am waiting for appointment for hysteroscopic myomectomy. Two days after the 3.75mg injection I had a strong pelvic pain for exactly one day and night. After that everything seemed okay till I got my period 2 weeks after that first dose. It has been two weeks ago and I am still struggling with my period that is as abundant as before. Because it says that, at the beginning things will get worse before they get better I decided to go for the 3 month injection which is 11.25mg. Now, I feel even worse. Besides my period that is not stopping, I am now beginning to feel nauseous and every day for the last week I've been having migraines. I stopped with OTC pain relievers because they do not work for some reason. Ironically, I was in better shape before the meds. At least I only had to endure 3-day hemorrhaging. Now it is non-stop, I am nauseous and I have migraines on a daily basis. Read More Read Less

During the course of the treatment one of my worst symptoms was night sweats and hot flashes and I was taking the add back. Sometimes I was waking up and changing clothes 4+ times a night because I would wake up soaked in sweat. I also got pretty bad insomnia and brain fog. I remember reading the reviews and being pretty terrified. I took the shots for 7 months after having surgery for endometriosis and it kept the pain away but its been 2 years and it came back, I just had a hysterectomy. Long term my core body temperature has changed, I used to always be cold and now I am always hot and sweating, I almost can't sleep without a fan or I overheat and I have been dealing with a lot of memory problems. I used to remember everything, little details, lists, things to do, etc and now I can't even remember what someone told me 10 minutes ago sometimes. When I was on the shot I also remember I used to get light headed and confused for like 60 seconds where I didn't know where I was driving or where I was.Read More Read Less

My life has Never been the same since Lupron injections! I was very anemic, and had a DVT in my leg, at the same time. I had 4 doctors in the hospital, trying to figure out how to “treat my unique situation “; the solution they came up with, Lupron injections! They did Not tell me Anything about the possible side effects!! After Lupron, I was 47 yrs old, and since then, I’ve felt almost 20 yrs older, and Very Frustrated that there are 70+ year old ladies, that have more energy, and able to do a lot more than I can, physically! Lupron literally changed my life while I wait for surgery. Everything else had been ruled out. Multiple scans nothing showed. Obgyn suggested trying this as it's suspected the endo has traveled outside my pelvic area. I was warned that the symptoms could get worse for two weeks. Which actually turned out to be 4 weeks. But after the 4th week. Life started going back to normal. My bowels are the biggest change. Went from chronic daily diarrhea that was followed by severe constipation around my periods, to once a day which was my previous normal. The pain was cut in half. It didn't go away completely but my sciatic nerve pain was significantly decreased. I'm still waiting for surgery but for now I am happy to stay on lurpon. My side effects were some joint pain in my toes and fingers at the beginning those went away. Hot flashes and night sweats are a lot but I will happily take those over the debilitating pain that made me not able to sit on a toilet seat. I'm so glad I didn't read reviews before I went on it. I likely wouldn't have agreed if I knew how many people had horrific side effects. But if you're reading this and scared know it helped me so much and I am glad I took it. Read More Read Less

I wouldn't wish this drug on my worst enemy. I had stage IV Endometriosis. After three laparoscopies and no sight of slowing down, I started this treatment in 2010. It didn't slow my bleeding, and I bled for almost 7 months straight. I had a full hysterectomy at the age of 23 in 2011. A decade later, in 2021, I still suffer tremendously from the side effects of this drug. Hot flashes, memory loss, neurological issues, bone issues, joint pain, stomach pain. Ten years and counting of side effects. Do. Not. Ruin. Your. Life.Read More Read Less

Never never never use this product it will ruin your life within a month. I took a 3 month jab after my laproscopy and then it basically destroyed my life because of my gynae's stupid decision to give me the jab. I have been to emergency roon 5 times because I couldnt breathe. Hospitalised 2 times for having problem breathing and having chronic sinus. Which i have not had for the past 45 years of living. When asked gynae about the side effects she kept on denying. She said it nothing to do with the injection. Thousands of people have reported bad effects of this product since year 1999 and some have causes death and the doctors still deny? I used to be a healthy woman before i had this injection. I used to go jogging every week and do housework and take care of my kids. But now my husband has to take care of me. I am always tired with all the side effects of hot flushes, insomnia, joint pains, chronic sinusitis, chronic gastric that went on to gerd, problem breathing and the list is endless. I am always on the bed either sleeping or feeling tired. I have not gone jogging since and cannot lead my life of doing house work and cant take care of my kids. I have reported this product to FDA but I dont understand why despite so many people have reported bad side effects yet still doctors prescribe it? It already been 5 months after the jab and i still have side effects and my period has not returned.Read More Read Less

I have been on this shot for about 3 years now, and it's been a God sent for me. I had been having extremely heavy periods (one of which lasted 9 months), some months I would have more then one. The pain was unbearable. I missed a lot of work due to periods. I sometimes get night sweats now, but I can deal with that.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1995, with radical prostatectomy the same year. A return of high PSA in 2014. A body scan in 2014 showed malignant neoplasm of prostate in the pelvic area. My Oncology/Urology MD started me on LUPRON DEPOT 90-day injections in 2015. The first PSA test in 2015 showed NO reading. The no reading has continued to date. The only side effects to appear was a large number of "hot flashes", which continue.
