Had bad reaction to Lipitor so began taking 2 tabs of Red Yeast Rice 200mg instead. Cholesterol came down 10 points and Triglycerides came down 30 points. However I started having leg pains again only not as bad. Discontinued. Dr. gave me Crestor 10 mg to take but had leg and back pains from that too.

I have taken Red Yeast Rice, Spring Valley brand for about two years and it slowly took my numbers down about 10 pts. 272-262 - Then I started eating less and less fat which lead me to starting plant based eating. I did this last Feb 14 and I lost 25 lbs (too fast) but ok, it took my cholesterol down to 219 this Feb 15. I will keep going and it took me to A1c of 5.5%. I could have become diabetic - 66 now

I was having leg pains with statins after taking for over a year. I switched to Red Yeast Rice and started with 1 (600mg) a day that contained 30mg of CoQ10. Numbers went down on slightly. Tried to increase to 2 pills a day but too had leg pains. I started taking CoQ10 100mg gummies and slowely worked up to the 2 pills. (like every other day) No leg pains.I now am on 2 pills with CoQ10 60mg & I take 100mg CoQ10 also. No pains.Last Tests were 234 C total. Get new blood tests in June to see if working to lower my cholesterol. I may try to increase dose again. Will report back.Read More Read Less

Red yeast rice has recently lowered my cholesterol by 50 points! I did not want to take statin drugs as they affect the liver. Am very happy with the results on red yeast rice tablets (4 a day) as recommended by my doctor.

I have replaced my Simvastatin with this over a year ago. My cholesterol numbers came down within the first month. I had incredibly bad side effects from the Simvastatin. Even though red yeast rice acts similiar to the statin drugs I am not having the side effects & 100% satisfied with this product.

Doctor had me use this to lower my chlorestrol and it worked great, but I had such leg pain I had to stop running and couldn't even sit without hurting. I had not made the connection that this was a side effect. Am cutting dose in half and adding Co Q10. Hopefully a winning combo for me. Otherwise I will stop taking it. I eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly and will continue to do this.

I used red yeast rice for about two months and noticed that my knees starting aching. I could no longer run and had trouble getting up from a seated position. I am now going to get a cortizone injection on one knee and trying to use ice and advil to fix the other one.BAD DRUG

I started taking red yeast rice to lower my overall cholesteral numbers, however after only 2 weeks I began noticing my legs hurting - and both of my knees started hurting too. I have taken omega 3,6 and 9's for several years without a problem and am discontinuing the red yeast rice. I'll just work at lowering my total numbers through exercise, omega 3 and diet.
