Don't be scared by all these reviews. Happy people don't write reviews lol. I have been taking this for 3 months with the biggest issue being breakthrough bleeding/spotting. It's tolerable and otherwise side effects have been OK. I gained maybe two pounds and I think it was all in my boobs.

At first, I loved this form of birth control, I was actually loosing weight. Small break through bleeding, no acne, no cramping, great libido, everything was fine for me. Well I ran out of the 5 samples I received from my doctor and I recently switched to the generic form of lo-loestrin due to insurance and costs. It's been about 4 months and I'm miserable, I hate myself, I get sad or mad about th...

I started this BC pill on the first day of my period. I spotted through the month which is very annoying. I never had this problem with other BC pills. I was in a extreme foul mood for about 3 weeks, my breasts hurt like hell and have acne like a teenager on top of gaining weight. My period came on time with the first pack but now I haven't have one, which freaks me out wondering if I am pregnant. I seems to be common from the comments I have read but it would have been nice to know before hand. The first three weeks I had really bad headaches and my blood pressure skyrocketed. Even with health insurance its expensive. I don't recommend this pill!Read More Read Less

I began taking this pill 2 1/2 months ago on the first day of my period. My periods are usually 24-26 days apart, last 3-4 days and are not heavy, but I haven't had one since I started taking this pill. When I nearing the end of the 1st pack, I had a normal amount of cramping and thought my period was starting, but it never did. At the end of the 2nd pack I had more cramping and a tiny bit of spotting, but that was it. It is a little unnerving to not have a period, but after reading some other reviews I see I'm not the only one experiencing this. I have not had any other side effects.Read More Read Less

I'm in 30's, 1st time on cbirth control. In the beginning, I only experienced mild headache, arm pain, & legs cramp. A month into the pills,my pains in my legs and arms turned severe. I started getting night hives all over my body that turned into dermato graphysim, and currently they come out day or night. A month after I stopped the pills, I still have to deal with severe pains on legs & arms that lasts for days at times. Some times pains spreads to buttocks and can't even sit for 2 minutes. My skin cells got so sensitive that heat, preasure, or minor abrasions now cause extreme hives that spreads, and they are not just on my body parts, but on my face too. I get depressed because of the unexplained, un identified hives, and pains. More recently my feet, and hands, and face started to swell. None of the 2 doctors:the doctor who started me on this pill, and the new PCP(Hematology/interal Medicine specialist)believe it these are side effects caused by the pills. In fact the Ob Gyn who started me says, he'd never heard of such symptoms in his 20 yrs of practice. But in the drug manual, it clearly states these could happen. I feel my life in on line, but docs can't even give me a valid explaination. I am deeply terrified to listen to doctors to take any med now. If there is some one out there, who can help describe my conditions, please help! When pains assualts my body at its height, I even contemplate on whether it would be worth living? Recent blood test still came out "normal". My skin change is so drastic that... mt naturally beautiful skin turns into horrifying, embarassing, depressing, excrutiating, ugly hives paint the next minute. If I had knw how dirty, and dangerous lo lo estrin fe was from the moment i took it. If the doc didn't persuated me, I wouldn't even touch it. I wish FDA enforces the drug company to put that on their lable. Severe symtoms emerge month after all its hormons sinks deep within your blood and marrow, not at the beginning. Killing me!Read More Read Less

My 17 year old daughter went on this to help with cramps and heavy periods. She experienced the worst cramps ever during the first week. Spotting came after that for 10 days or so. (period never really stopped). Then she "started" her period again week 3 of the pill and it hasn't stopped yet. Her "real" period should start sometime late this week or so. Can't wait for that fun! Just not enough estrogen or something. Cramps in the morning & evening have increased. Has to take ibuprofen for those which isn't good. She also experienced mood problems the first week out and felt "crazy and sad" but that seemed to go away. No weight gain or bloating. Called the doctor & getting off of this to try necon 1/35. Hopefully that works better - this did NOT work for her; did exactly the opposite of what we were hoping for. Could not take another 2 months of this continual period & cramps to see if it "worked out"!! No way. If this isn't working for you call your doctor!! I think it's the lowest dose out there but that's not for everyone obviously. Everybody's different.Read More Read Less

Horrible raging mood swings, crying, weird dreams, acne, tiredness, melasma, bloating, cramping... I hate everyone and want to scratch people's eyes out. This is not safe for my children, family or myself! SO disappointing :( I just wanted my period to be regular.

everyones body responds to BC differently but I thought I would share my story because over the past 2 1/2 months I have read this forum looking for answers as to why I was acting so crazy on this BC! So here it goes I started taking lo loestrin fe and after three Weeks ended up in the er with a severe bladder infection was told there was no connection to the BC causing this but when I seen my doc for a follow up she said there def could be since the hormones are fluctuating..after getting better from that I started feeling short of breath heart palpations, lump in throat feeling, rapid heart beat had EKG, blood test and chedt xray all were normal I had severe anxiety and moodiness on this pill and couldnt take the way it was making me feel so I stopped taking them 4 days ago 11 days into my third pack and am now bleeding and cramping. The only upside was almost non exisent periods and no cramping this BC is effective I just couldnt bare the crszy side effrcts and hope noone else has toRead More Read Less

I almost listed "other" because I am taking this pill for multiple perimenopausal symptoms as well as for birth control. The first two months I developed some mild bloating, but nothing like some of my pms symptoms. My night sweats and hot flashes stopped almost immediately and have not returned- I have been on the drug 6 months. I take it every day, no breaks (discard nonessential pills). I am very happy with the overall effects. I still have some cyclic moodiness a few days before when my period would have occurred, but it is much better than before taking the pill. I am so glad I tried it and waited 3 months before making a decision about how I liked it. I did have breakthru bleeding mid-cycle of the second month, but none since then. I feel 100% better than before using this product. I am careful to exercise and avoid excess salt in my diet, and I drink tons of water. I wish I had known there was a product like this a few years ago when my perimenopausal symptoms became severe. The mild bloat is worth not having all the other symptoms...headaches, irregular bleeding, the flashes and sweats, severe pms mood declines, etc, etc. It just has really balanced my life- wonderful product!! I have just been on this birth control for one week and I have already expierenced what so many of the people on here have. I have been feeling tired, slightly depressed, my mood swings are out of control, I have breast tenderness, I also have bad acne which never ever happens to me, and although my period is gone I am expierencing cramping. I also seem to be having shortness of breathe and mild chest pain, and leg cramping. I am stopping this birth control pill and wouldnt recommend it to anyone else since it seems that alot of people experience the same thing.Read More Read Less

This is the first birth control I've been on (started at 17, now 18 y/o). I started in August, so it's been almost 8 months. I had a regular period the first month, and haven't had one since. Quite nerve-wracking at first, but eventually I got used to it. It seems as though a lack of a period is common on this pill so I'm not too worried. I did go through a bit of depression during the first few months, but that may have been because I was going through a bad breakup as well. My boobs did get a bit larger, but not enough to go up a cup size. No acne, no nausea, nothing weird. The only side effect I've had is an increase in vaginal discharge which I handle by wearing liners. Overall, I've been happy with this pill and was relatively shocked by the other negative reviews as I hadn't experienced any of those effects.Read More Read Less

I have tried going on lo loestrin twice and both time I've hated it. Only plus was that my breasts had swelled up. I had terrible mood swings, somewhat depression like feelings. Acne had gotten somewhat worse, and i now have Melasma which is utterly annoying. Do not take this!

I started out very happy with this pill. Along with many reviewers, I did not get my period anymore (which made me nervous). After about 5 months I started feeling the "morning sickness" symptoms, breast tenderness,a little bit of acne and my appetite increased. Pretty much symptoms of being pregnant...but I wasn't. I am switching now to Lo Ovral...hopefully that goes well.

I was prescribed his pill to help with migraines and to control heavy bleeding during menstruation. My husband called it my "grumpy pill" after 3 weeks and I have had breakthrough bleeding three weeks out of four for the seven months I have taken Loloestrin. Heavy bleeding has persisted during regular menstruation and I continue to have 15 migraines per month (no change). Now, in the past month, I have had feelings of hopelessness, extreme fatigue, and just getting dressed seems overwhelming. my doctor said that Imcan discontinue its use at he end o this, my 7th, pack. Thi has been a terrible drug and has robbed me of my joy for living. I do to recommend this medication for anything.Read More Read Less

Best birth control I've ever had. I have tried 30mcg and 20mcg estrogen birth control pills in the past, but they all made me moody, have painful periods, and gain weight. With this pill, after the first month, I lost weight and had light, painless periods. Mentally, I don't feel any different. This pill was the solution for me.

I took this for the first month, my doctor said it might reduce my pre-menstrual migraines. first it seemed like it was working. the time for my period came and went with no headache. then I realized, i didn't have a period! my doctor said that was ok and to be expected on these pills, and she did a pregnancy test just in case (negative). then out of nowhere, a week into my next pack of pills i have a week of migraines and spotting equal to a real period. if this happens in three weeks again, then I am throwing these out!Read More Read Less

Used to take this when I had a boyfriend. Side effects: breast tenderness, moodiness (slight), light periods (yes!). Price was too high so I'm switching to LoEstrin24 FE..

I WILL BE REPORTING THIS DRUG TO THE FDA!!! Basically, I have had the following side effects within these past 3 weeks of starting the pill: morning sickness, breast tenderness, bloating, bleeding for 2 weeks, PMS-like symtpoms. Within the past 3 days I have had rage/anger, depression, weakness/fatigue, and some tingling in my fingers and toes. I have taken Orth Tri-cyclin in the past for years without any issues, and thought I would be ok taking Lo Loestrin Fe. In addition, up until these past 3 weeks, I have never had any mental health issues nor do they run in my family. Very scary to suddenly become depressed (not wanting to get out of bed, crying) and full of anger. I've also been doing research online regarding this perscriptions side effects and have found many similiar reviews. It's good to know that I am not the only one experiencing these symptoms, but worried that so many others are suffering too. I have immediatly stopped taking the pill and will be reporting it as soon as I can focus and be more clear mentally.Read More Read Less

I switched to the Lo Loestrin FE from another birth control pill. As I've been taking a birth control pill for years, I needed to switch as I was spotting too much. I don't have trouble on remembering to take it every day at the same time. I take it at 9 p.m. and noticed that during the first month I was terribly nauseous in the morning and I didn't have my period at all which made me wonder if I was pregnant (I wasn't but still freaked). The second month had a lot of spotting throughout the pack, and my period started a week before the nonactive pill, but would stop/start and make me wonder if I was actually on my period. I'm now on the third month and I'm hoping the spotting will go away and my period will be "on time". I do not have insurance coverage and the going rate is about $100 a pack. My doctor gave me 3 months of samples and told me I'd just need to buy 1 month and she could get me free samples for the rest of the year from the manufacturer as they are trying to flood the market. I've not noticed more intense mood swings other than is typical during my "cycle", and the nauseousness is gone. I also like that you have more active pills per month. The verdict is still out...Read More Read Less

I am normally a very emotionally stable person and have confidence and very motivational (I am a Health Coach by profession). This medicine has made me depressed, feeling lost and having no purpose. I have had 3 emotional breakdowns and i cry at the drop of a hat for no reason. I felt like i wanted to crawl in a hole and not come out. It has awful mood swing side effects and has made me an emotional basket case. This is not a good birth control, I have been on others and tried this one because of the low dose, The others gave me an occasional mod swing but nothing like this!! I am not willing to keep taking this medicine as it is affecting my job, my life and my passions in life. Read More Read Less

Overall, I like Lo Loestrin Fe. I take it continuously, and it has helped immensely with my (unconfirmed) endometriosis, helped clear up acne, and I no longer have migraines around the end of the month. However, the iron in this medication has caused chronic constipation, and I'm having to take several fiber supplements on top of drinking a ton of water just to "go" once or twice a week. However, it has done a better job than any other Pill I've been on, so I would recommend it for anyone suffering with endo.Read More Read Less

I am on this medication to hopefully help stunt the growth of fibroids and ease painfull cramping. I have been on it for 4 months and I don't get cramping anymore and I haven't experienced side effects. As for the fibroids, I will know more in a couple of months during my next check up.
