Don't be scared by all these reviews. Happy people don't write reviews lol. I have been taking this for 3 months with the biggest issue being breakthrough bleeding/spotting. It's tolerable and otherwise side effects have been OK. I gained maybe two pounds and I think it was all in my boobs.

At first, I loved this form of birth control, I was actually loosing weight. Small break through bleeding, no acne, no cramping, great libido, everything was fine for me. Well I ran out of the 5 samples I received from my doctor and I recently switched to the generic form of lo-loestrin due to insurance and costs. It's been about 4 months and I'm miserable, I hate myself, I get sad or mad about th...

I am 17 and was on this birth control for 3 months and it was a little weird. granted, I should’ve used it longer but it gave me such bad nausea and loss of appetite I had to get off. I am already 115lbs so I can’t really afford to lose anymore weight since I’m already unweight. another thing though, yes my periods were light, but they were sporadic. like it was just like spotting but I spotted for 2 weeks at one point and then the next week and a half later, I was spotting again. my cramps also got a little better and I have really bad cramps (my mom has endometriosis so it’s genetic). I didn’t notice any physical changes, I didn’t have acne beforehand so I can’t say it cleared it up but it didn’t make it worse or give me acne. obviously I had an occasional pimple but no worse or better. I didn’t gain weight but I did lose a little. I was also not having sex so I can’t say it prevented pregnancy so in my opinion don’t take your chances on it considering it’s a light dosage. overall, I think this is better for younger girls who just need it for their cycle. I have been on this medication for 17 years. In all that time, I have never had a full period since I've started. I've had some spotting, maybe ten times in all those years. I didn't have any issues with weight gain or other health problems through the years that seemed to be from this medication and I never considered changing it. I am getting ready to switch to a non-estrogen pill being that I have a new doctor and I'm getting older. Blood clots and high blood pressure run in my family but it seems that those concerns are listed as possible issues for every pill. Here's hoping this is a smooth transition! If not, I'm coming back to Lo Lo! Read More Read Less

This birth control definitely made me gain some weight. The one thing that scares me is I was very consistent with taking the pills and when I got to the 5th month my periods were very irregular or absent. It was scary at first but knowing that it’s common to not get ur period on this type of pill makes me have less more anxiety.

I am very upset because i thought this birthcontrol would work out for me after 3 months taking it. i felt fine at first until recently i have had anxiety and really emotional and sad. I also feel really disconnected i had to stop taking these pills because i have been feeling really anxious as well and dizzy. i have never struggled with anxiety until taking this pill and its a bummer that i have to stop but my mental health matters the most to me

Compared to other pills I’ve been on this is by far my favorite. I have been on the off brand for about 5 years and it’s the only pill that hasn’t made me gain any excessive amount of weight. Maybe 5 pounds at most and I can’t say for sure it was the birth control. I did take 2 years off of it just to see how it was without it then started it again. Personally, it makes more emotional than normal but that’s really the only side effect I have.

For many years I used the IUD but my gynecologist recommended lo loestrin because it supposedly did not have many hormones. From the first month of use, I started to feel nausea, headache, depression, mood swings, and my body felt different. After two months of taking it, I started to feel some lumps in my breast and several fibroadenomas that later had to be removed by surgery because in 5 months they had grown too fast due to the hormonal uncontrol that the pill had caused me.

This is the best birth control I’ve ever been on. I began taking this in 2022 after a friend recommended it to me after hearing me complain about all of the birth control pills i’ve tried that have been absolutely awful. This pill has absolutely no side effects for me, I skip my periods while on it so I can’t speak to what it feels like to take the placebos. Sadly, I recently was notified that my insurance is no longer covering this pill but I’m hoping to find some way to stay on it or it’s equivalent. Read More Read Less

I've been on this pill for a month and am already calling my doc to change it. Changed to this because overall birth control has caused my hormones to go into a frenzy and I was told this will help to fix that. I've been on BC since I was 15. While this helped my attitude and mood swings, I've gained around 10lbs (140-150lbs) and I am 20 years old and 5'5". I work out 5-6 days a week and am overall healthy and fit. First effect was that my boobs grew a whole letter size, and to say they are in pain is an understatement. It has been a full 30 days and the pain has yet to subside. The weight gain was rapid and a lot for me because I have maintained this weight (140lbs) for over 2 years now.Read More Read Less

Im sharing this to give my experience and possibly help others. I’ve been on BC pills in the past. After taking a break for a few years decided to try this one because of its lower hormones. I’m currently 3 weeks in and calling my doctor tomorrow to switch. The first week I experienced mild occasional nausea. My breasts felt very swollen and heavy. Starting the second week I have since had the absolute worst cystic hormonal acne of my life. my entire lower face jawline/ neck is covered in large cystic acne. It’s so painful. i’m prone to occasional hormonal pimple but this birth control has given me full on cystic acne. After research i’ve since learned this birth control is known for hormonal acne breakouts because the progestin is highly androgenic. These breakouts have made me feel so depressed. I can’t leave the house or look in the mirror. I also have felt bloated since starting this birth control. I have been very irritable since starting. I feel no interest in things that typically excite me. This birth control unfortunately didn’t work for me. But everyone’s different so it could work well for you. But i do NOT recommend for anyone who has acne prone skin or hormonal acne. As this BC is known to cause hormonal acne. I wish my doctor had known this. Read More Read Less

I’ve been on this since June of 2022. It’s not November of 2023 & it’s been working very well. I had breakthrough spotting for about a week last month, but other than that, no issues. I don’t have acne, rare mood swings, & I already had depression beforehand so lol. I don’t have periods anymore either fr.

Horrible. My doctor recommended this to help with migraines but it has done the complete opposite. I feel so negative, unhappy, irritable & down. My acne has gotten worse than ever, even though I’m on medication from my dermatologist. I bleed every other couple days, no straight period. I still have migraines. No sex drive. I do not recommend this, very bad experience and my whole body and myself changed.

I am grateful that others have shared their experiences - especially with mental health/intrusive thoughts/mood swings! I’ve been on this for 2.5m and had to stop. First month spotted every single day, needed a tampon every day. First period was painful just like my normal pre-BC periods. 2nd month no spotting, but 1.5 weeks leading up to period very crampy every day. Period was totally fine. Halfway through this third month and now extreme cramps, basically on my period, bloated, swollen boobs (this has been consistent the whole time), nausea - but it’s reached a point where I felt like I was loosing my damn mind!!! Crying, upset, very extreme/irrational thoughts that are not normal for me. I saw a couple bouts of this over the prior 2 months, and thought they were abnormal - but the last week has no low confirmed that for me. Emotions also not normal - almost like an out of body experience, it’s making me think I’m crazy!! So thank you to all the women who have shared your similar experience to let me know I’m not alone!! I stopped effective today and felt compelled to share since everyone else’s helped me so much! Read More Read Less

I am in perimenopause. Dr prescribed this to regulate periods. I tried it last year for a month and had extreme nausea that happened at the same time as having COVID so I had partially chalked it up to that. I stopped taking it after the one month. Started it again this year same exact thing happened literally nausea for the entire month felt like crap bled literally from July 1st to July 18th and I'm talking heavy bleeding washing the blankets flooding tampons and pads the whole nine yards terrible. Never happens except when I'm on this pill. But I'd take the bleeding over the nausea. The nausea is debilitating and I have not been able to do anything all month. This is just my experience but yeah no. Also I never get headaches and got headaches while I took this. I stopped taking it on Saturday, and today is Thursday. I'm still not out of the woods but at least I stopped bleeding and I feel a little less nauseous I can't wait for this to be out of my system. Never ever again.Read More Read Less

While my periods were very short with little cramping, I got a lot of hormonal acne after the second month, sore nipples and breast. I also cry a lot now about absolutely everything. Somewhat lowered my sex drive, anyways I’m switching brands solely because of the hormonal acne, it’s painful big ones no thanks!

I have PCOS and other complications but this birth control has actually made me lose weight. Quickly at that. Less acne as well. Ive been a bit moody but its hard to say if thats from the bc. My period dragged out a little longer but significantly less bleeding and less painful. Overall great compared to others Ive used.

I have been taking Lo Loestrin for 6 months now due to very heavy periods (I have adenomyosis and am in perimenopause), and so far it has been excellent. I went from heavy periods (2 days taking advil every few hours), to light spotting. It's almost scary how I almost don't have a period anymore, it has been amazing. I have no side effects except a light headache for a few days during my period and I think I've gained a few pounds (3 lbs). No other side effects, and I've tried everything (IUD, other pills) and this is the only one that's worked! Read More Read Less

I'm starting off by saying that our bodies are different. What works for one may not work for you and there is only one way to find it... by trying it yourself. Do not take every review to heart because your experience could be different. Now, when I first started taking loestrin fe 1/20, I was 17 and was on it for a few years. The only problem I had long effect was back acne and it was cystic. It would only flare up around the time I had a period. You must remember, the first two to three months of starting birth control can be rough before your body gets used to it. You'll have break through bleeding, acne, etc. Now I hopped off of BC for some time and ended up having my daughter and was then put on Junel which is similar to Loestrin. Won't go on about that bc we are reviewing loestrin here. Fast forward to being off loestein for about 4 years, I just now started it again. Im going on 4 months and had break through bleeding within the first three months. The Third month was only a day of bleeding. Mind you I'm also skipping my periods with this birth control. This time around, I'm not dealing with any acne like I did before. Bodies change as we grow so this may be why, who knows! My mood is fine, however. It prevents pregnancy great and I'm happy to use it. I do want to mention I never seen this pill cause weight gain. The years I was on ir prior, I mentioned the same weight without working out the entire time.Read More Read Less

I’ve been on Lo Loestrin Fe since I was 17 (I’m 24 now) & the only time I’ve ever had problems with it was when I first started taking it. I had a pretty painful heavy flow a few weeks after starting it. But now it’s great, my periods are so light I don’t even have to wear tampons on my period anymore. & I only get painful period cramps a few times out of the year!

I wanted to start on birth control for the first time and my doctor recommend to start on a low dosage. I started this medication a week ago and had to stop immediately. My sex drive was low, I was having extreme anxiety and headaches that wouldn’t let me fall asleep. I’m just got off the pill as of 2 days ago and I’m still having these massive headaches, fatigue and dizziness. Hopefully I get well soon.
