Don't be scared by all these reviews. Happy people don't write reviews lol. I have been taking this for 3 months with the biggest issue being breakthrough bleeding/spotting. It's tolerable and otherwise side effects have been OK. I gained maybe two pounds and I think it was all in my boobs.

At first, I loved this form of birth control, I was actually loosing weight. Small break through bleeding, no acne, no cramping, great libido, everything was fine for me. Well I ran out of the 5 samples I received from my doctor and I recently switched to the generic form of lo-loestrin due to insurance and costs. It's been about 4 months and I'm miserable, I hate myself, I get sad or mad about th...

I’ve been using this as birth control for years and had no issues. Most of the time, I don’t even get my period while on the pill.

Horrible. My doctor recommended this to help with migraines but it has done the complete opposite. I feel so negative, unhappy, irritable & down. My acne has gotten worse than ever, even though I’m on medication from my dermatologist. I bleed every other couple days, no straight period. I still have migraines. No sex drive. I do not recommend this, very bad experience and my whole body and myself changed.

I am grateful that others have shared their experiences - especially with mental health/intrusive thoughts/mood swings! I’ve been on this for 2.5m and had to stop. First month spotted every single day, needed a tampon every day. First period was painful just like my normal pre-BC periods. 2nd month no spotting, but 1.5 weeks leading up to period very crampy every day. Period was totally fine. Halfway through this third month and now extreme cramps, basically on my period, bloated, swollen boobs (this has been consistent the whole time), nausea - but it’s reached a point where I felt like I was loosing my damn mind!!! Crying, upset, very extreme/irrational thoughts that are not normal for me. I saw a couple bouts of this over the prior 2 months, and thought they were abnormal - but the last week has no low confirmed that for me. Emotions also not normal - almost like an out of body experience, it’s making me think I’m crazy!! So thank you to all the women who have shared your similar experience to let me know I’m not alone!! I stopped effective today and felt compelled to share since everyone else’s helped me so much! Read More Read Less

I am in perimenopause. Dr prescribed this to regulate periods. I tried it last year for a month and had extreme nausea that happened at the same time as having COVID so I had partially chalked it up to that. I stopped taking it after the one month. Started it again this year same exact thing happened literally nausea for the entire month felt like crap bled literally from July 1st to July 18th and I'm talking heavy bleeding washing the blankets flooding tampons and pads the whole nine yards terrible. Never happens except when I'm on this pill. But I'd take the bleeding over the nausea. The nausea is debilitating and I have not been able to do anything all month. This is just my experience but yeah no. Also I never get headaches and got headaches while I took this. I stopped taking it on Saturday, and today is Thursday. I'm still not out of the woods but at least I stopped bleeding and I feel a little less nauseous I can't wait for this to be out of my system. Never ever again.Read More Read Less

While my periods were very short with little cramping, I got a lot of hormonal acne after the second month, sore nipples and breast. I also cry a lot now about absolutely everything. Somewhat lowered my sex drive, anyways I’m switching brands solely because of the hormonal acne, it’s painful big ones no thanks!

I have PCOS and other complications but this birth control has actually made me lose weight. Quickly at that. Less acne as well. Ive been a bit moody but its hard to say if thats from the bc. My period dragged out a little longer but significantly less bleeding and less painful. Overall great compared to others Ive used.

I have been taking Lo Loestrin for 6 months now due to very heavy periods (I have adenomyosis and am in perimenopause), and so far it has been excellent. I went from heavy periods (2 days taking advil every few hours), to light spotting. It's almost scary how I almost don't have a period anymore, it has been amazing. I have no side effects except a light headache for a few days during my period and I think I've gained a few pounds (3 lbs). No other side effects, and I've tried everything (IUD, other pills) and this is the only one that's worked! Read More Read Less

I'm starting off by saying that our bodies are different. What works for one may not work for you and there is only one way to find it... by trying it yourself. Do not take every review to heart because your experience could be different. Now, when I first started taking loestrin fe 1/20, I was 17 and was on it for a few years. The only problem I had long effect was back acne and it was cystic. It would only flare up around the time I had a period. You must remember, the first two to three months of starting birth control can be rough before your body gets used to it. You'll have break through bleeding, acne, etc. Now I hopped off of BC for some time and ended up having my daughter and was then put on Junel which is similar to Loestrin. Won't go on about that bc we are reviewing loestrin here. Fast forward to being off loestein for about 4 years, I just now started it again. Im going on 4 months and had break through bleeding within the first three months. The Third month was only a day of bleeding. Mind you I'm also skipping my periods with this birth control. This time around, I'm not dealing with any acne like I did before. Bodies change as we grow so this may be why, who knows! My mood is fine, however. It prevents pregnancy great and I'm happy to use it. I do want to mention I never seen this pill cause weight gain. The years I was on ir prior, I mentioned the same weight without working out the entire time.Read More Read Less

I’ve been on Lo Loestrin Fe since I was 17 (I’m 24 now) & the only time I’ve ever had problems with it was when I first started taking it. I had a pretty painful heavy flow a few weeks after starting it. But now it’s great, my periods are so light I don’t even have to wear tampons on my period anymore. & I only get painful period cramps a few times out of the year!

I wanted to start on birth control for the first time and my doctor recommend to start on a low dosage. I started this medication a week ago and had to stop immediately. My sex drive was low, I was having extreme anxiety and headaches that wouldn’t let me fall asleep. I’m just got off the pill as of 2 days ago and I’m still having these massive headaches, fatigue and dizziness. Hopefully I get well soon.

Lolo helped with heavy bleeding with close to no side effects, I even kept my sex drive which doesn't happen to me a lot on BC. I would have been extremely happy with this pill if not for this ONE side effect : severe vaginal itching that lasted for the whole year I was on it. Drs tested me and it wasn't any type of infection. The itching went away a week after I stopped taking this pill.

I have been on this BC for at least 8years now. It has worked great in protecting against pregnancy. My only concern is that I haven't had a period since I've been on the pill. My gyno reassured me that it's normal and wouldn't mess with my fertility but I am unsure of that. Stresses me a little as I will soon be trying out for kids. I did however stop the pill for 1 month about 4 years ago and I got a crazy heavy period that lasted 8 days... forgot how to handle it after years of not having a period. Read More Read Less

I am 19 and been taking this pill for about two weeks. I’ve been on multiple different birth controls since 14 due to endometriosis and painful periods. This has been the worst birth control. Within the two weeks I’ve been very emotional and cry to just about anything. Also got acne like crazyyyyy! I’ve never had acne.

Like many, I was hesitant about starting Lo Loestrin Fe, in part due to the negative reviews online. I started it for birth control purposes only and I am happy to report a positive experience thus far, with no negative side effects. My boobs are slightly fuller (I didn't change cup size though) and I remember my dreams most nights now. My mood and energy levels are consistent with what they are like off birth control (no issues). My advice is to make decisions based on what is best for you. There is no one size fits all when it comes to medication. Read More Read Less

Have not been in it very long however I did take it years ago for several years and it was great. Hoping it will stop periods soon. Im 50 and have had some hair thinning and as im taking this I notice my hair coming in thicker and longer.. Will track this over time.

I started this medication as an add on to Mirena IUD to treat endometriosis and painful periods. After taking for nearly 3 years, i've not had a period since, my pain has lightened more and more over time and it's been the easiest to take continuous birth control i've tried. I do have acne cyclicly and i do still ovulate, but it has also suppressed PMDD symptoms.

Ive been taking this birth control for almost 2 years now. It was originally prescribed to me when I was 16 and I had a period that was a full month of extremely heavy bleeding where I would be dizzy from blood loss at times. This pill helped and was wonderful for pain for about a year and then my periods became increasingly irregular and now I have not had my period in about 4 months. I am not pregnant and there are no signs of it coming but I do still have pain every day.

Effectiveness: The medication had one purpose, which was to ease menstrual cramping. It did the exact opposite. Cramps around the clock, minutes-long "episodes" as I've started to call them, all month long, multiple times a day. On am actual period they are constant and worse than the debilitating mess which occured before taking them. On top of this, I've lost all pleasure drive, have random and disruptive headaches, and am almost always hungry despite being constantly nauseated. Ease of use: It's a pill. Hard to punch out, at that. But how difficult can a pill be? Satisfaction: I'm told to just keep sticking with it until this stops, but I can't do this for another three months until my follow-up. The one singular thing I needed medication for, is now constant and much worse. Trust your body- if it's harming you, stop taking this pill. The side effects are WAY more common and severe than the packaging impresses on you.Read More Read Less

I first want to clarify that all bodies are different and will react different to birth control — that being said, I’ve been on Lo Loestrin Fe for about 8 years and it’s been smooth riding until recently. I used to have extremely heavy and painful periods (only lasted about 3 days tho). Lo was the first pill I was put on and it completely got rid of my period (for all 8 years). I gained about 10 pounds but it could’ve been in combination I started the pill same time I started college. I did end up losing weight and maintained it. Now, why did I stop taking lo? Within the last 2.5 years i’ve been having crazy cystic hormonal breakouts around my chin; I never had acne like this before. Given i’m in my mid-20s now I figured my hormones have changed. I’ve tried every skin and diet solution under the sun and finally decided it was time to try a new hormonal birth control to level out my body again. Read More Read Less
