Don't be scared by all these reviews. Happy people don't write reviews lol. I have been taking this for 3 months with the biggest issue being breakthrough bleeding/spotting. It's tolerable and otherwise side effects have been OK. I gained maybe two pounds and I think it was all in my boobs.

At first, I loved this form of birth control, I was actually loosing weight. Small break through bleeding, no acne, no cramping, great libido, everything was fine for me. Well I ran out of the 5 samples I received from my doctor and I recently switched to the generic form of lo-loestrin due to insurance and costs. It's been about 4 months and I'm miserable, I hate myself, I get sad or mad about th...

I have only been on this pill for 2wks. I began taking it the day my period started. I have been bleeding and spotting ever since. I have alot of mood swings and nausea every single day. I will give it the rest of the month. If I don't feel any better its bye bye Lo Lo.

I have been on Lo Loestrin for two weeks now. I was previously taking Levora and was put on BC because I had heavy bleeding to the point of an iron IV and dangerously low blood count. The Levora kept me constantly bleeding (low bleeding) everyday for a full year, extremly irrating. My new GYN-O put me on Lo Loestrin and my period has stopped completely at the moment, so for me it is absolute happiness. I must say I have experienced an increased hunger and some nausea but no mood swings to date. I too thought I was pregnant so I'm relieved to hear that is probably not the case. I am contemplating surgery to remove my uterus so this is a temp fix until then but the absense of my period has been blissful!Read More Read Less

I started taking this pill because TWO of my gynos highly recommended it. I began breaking out with acne only after a week of taking this pill. The acne was so BAD that I immediately switched back to my original pill.

My main reason for starting birth control was for just that.. preventing pregnancy. However, I was also hoping that it would help with my irregular periods and acne as well. So far, it seems to be effective in terms of preventing pregnancy, however, it has only made my acne so much worse, and now I never know what's my period and what's breakthrough bleeding, let alone when it's going to come. Now, while these things may suck, they aren't the main reason for me needing to switch to a different birth control. The main reason is depression. I was the happiest and most positive I had been in a long time just before taking this months ago. Now I can't find the motivation or energy to do anything, and I feel extremely drained, hopeless, worthless, and just terrible at all times. I often have urges to revert back to self harm, which I stopped years ago and even suicidal thoughts on a regular basis. I have gone through severe depresions in the past, and I cannot fall back into a rut such as the ones I have been in before. It's exhausting, and I just want to be able to have the motivation to accomplish what I want and need to do. I want to be happy again.Read More Read Less

My periods stopped, except when they'd come twice a month. I had a blood clot and a TIA, possible unrelated due to family history. Made the cysts stop.

I started taking Lo Loestrin Fe for mild acne. While my acne has improved, it has not been perfect. However, I traded clearer skin for random spotting, which has been a PAIN. I have experienced vaginal dryness, decreased libido, slight weight gain, and restless sleep while on this pill. I cannot say for sure if all of these conditions have been due to Lo Loestrin, but all of them ARE on the side-effects list. I will be discussing with my doctor other options to clear up my acne. The hassles far out weigh the benefits for me.Read More Read Less

I gave this 3 stars of satisfacation because as a form of BC it has worked well. I started taking Lo Lo estrin FE 3 months ago. The first month was torture. I felt sick everyday (which is to be expected) I also had some breakouts which were not a big deal. The second & now I'm on my third month have been just acne left & right! I'm switching because I am someone who NEVER had acne..and now I have it all over my face. I finally found a pill that I don't feel crazy on, not to mention I only spotted in between during month 1 & I would only spot if I took a pill a couple hours later then my scheduled time, and now due to acne I have to kick this to the curb. I am going to try Ortho Tri cyclen lo..because I have heard more positive then negative!Read More Read Less

I've been on Lo Loestrin FE for a month now and I'm quite satisfied with it. This might be because it's my first experience on the pill, and the negative reviews I've read are from people who are switching from a higher dose medication. While I had some spotting and cramping in my third week, that was the only real negative side effect I've been experiencing. I already had a little acne, but it did not get worse, my breasts are still a little tender but nothing painful, and I do have a decreased appetite, but that's not too problematic. Overall I'm very happy with this pill.Read More Read Less

Took for 5 months to ease perimenopause symptoms like intense mood swings. Worked well controlling hot flashes and mood swings. After 4 months, got numbness, tingling then pain in both arms. Each day pain got worse, throbbing. I stopped taking pill 7 days ago. Left arm back to normal, right arm still minor numbness. If you get numbness, talk to doc and stop pill. Gets increasingly worse!!

I have been taking this for 5 weeks. I was apprehensive because when I had taken birth control before, I gained about 10 pounds. I told my doctor my concerns and she prescribed me Lo Loestrin and I have actually lost weight! I will keep taking it because the only complaints I have is a little joint pain which I looked up and turns out it is a side effect and I had some spotting when I first started taking it, but it only lasted about a week. Now my periods are very light and only last about 2 days! Do not be afraid to try this! I was so against it, but I'm glad I'm taking it now!Read More Read Less

This is the only birth control I've used that has worked amazingly! My acne cleared--which is a miracle in itself since I had already gone through 2 years of antibotics, 1 year of accutane, and countless other birth controls and topical treatments as well as eating a vegan and gluten-free diet--this was a long 8 year battle! Other birth controls gave me extreme side effects like night sweats and mood swings (I would cry if I didn't have a pen or my boss *sounded* stern... it was miserable!). I am so grateful my doctor gave me this as a sample pack in between waiting to get results from my PCOS examination because all of my symptoms were cleared after 2 days of taking the pill and not surprisingly, I didn't have PCOS. My quality of life is so much better and I hope every woman keeps trying to find their right pill until they are 100% happy! Good luck ladies!Read More Read Less

So after being off of birth control for a while, I decided to get back on when I started a new relationship. Thought low estrogen sounded pretty nice! Anyway, I must say that I have NEVER felt crazier in my life. First month was alright--some break-through bleeding, minimal mood swings, no weight gain. Now I have been on it for about five months and I honestly feel like a different person...not in a good way at all. Plus, I am completely skipping periods and am 100% not pregnant. No weight gain still, bigger breats (although they are painfully tender...all the time), and a light period are the ONLY plus sides to this pill. My boyfriend deserves an award for dealing with me on this BC. I thought that all would even out after a while, but I have narrowed down my humilating mood swings to this little culprit. I do NOT reccomend. Read More Read Less

I used to be on Loestrin 24. It was great but it caused me to gain weight so I decided to switch to a lower dose with this Lo loestrin. I figured it should be similar. I was WRONG!!! This made me break out, I bled heavy for 2 weeks... I would have kept taking it to see if the bleeding would stop but I began having depression and anxiety. My bf asked me to get off of the pill, so I did. I am happy again :)

I've been on Lo Loestrin Fe for 2 months now. I was originally 5'4" and 100 pounds and I lost 8 on the pill. I'm so underweight and I feel terrible. It makes me constantly starving, but I'll start eating and after a few bites I feel like I'm going to puke. I am constantly nauseous and I have abdominal pain that causes me to double over, wake me up at night, or cry out in my sleep. I have constant headaches and am constantly depressed. I have no energy and it causes me to want to sleep all the time. It actually, strangely enough, increased my libido, but I have been spotting constantly for the entire 2 months. I am so glad that I'm switching to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo this week. I hope it makes me feel much better. I can't stand another week on this pill. Read More Read Less

Pricey ($10 off with discount card, but still around $75) but WELL WORTH it for me. After some spotting in the first few weeks, I have had very little unscheduled bleeding, which is one of the more bothersome side effects I've experienced with other OCs. My mood is stable and much improved relative to being on other OCs as well. I have taken it continuously (skipped the inactive pills) for several months and have had no bleeding/spotting whatsoever, which I love, although I don't require a period to reassure me that I'm not pregnant since I'm that "perfect user" they refer to in the literature - every 24 hours on the dot!Read More Read Less

I love this pill. It has worked wonders for me. I started using it after I got married, because I didn't like condoms, and the first month I spotted for the first week, and then during the week before the placebo pills. I am on my second month, on the second week, and so far no spotting! Have not noticed any mood changes, in fact, I think this pill may have in fact stablized my mood. Have not broken out, a slightly increased hunger within the first couple hours of taking the pill, but that's it. Make sure you stay nourished and hydrated though, on this pill, because otherwise it can cause headaches / fatique. It is working VERY well for me so far! :)Read More Read Less

Before taking Lo Loestrin, I was on Tri-Sprintec for over a year with few problems. Then my doctor switched me over to a lower hormone pill. This pill is awful. I tried to stick it out for 4 months to see if my body would get used to it and symptoms would go away, but they have only gotten worse with time. I haven't had a period since I started taking it, my breasts have been so sore it makes simple things like going up and down stairs painful (and my breasts are small!) my sex drive plummeted, and I have such horrible acne it's ridiculous. Not to mention the mood swings that make you feel like a crazy person! I get mad over the smallest thing and I can hear myself going nuts but it's like I can't stop it. This pill will make you crazy and your breasts will be so sore you will want to stop taking birth control altogether. Read More Read Less

My 15 yr old daughter was on this for over a year due to excessive bleeding/cramps. It is expensive and she is prone to acne and it made the acne worse despite being on acne meds. She was also moody, everything annoyed her and she gained about 15-20 lbs despite being an athlete. She was always hungry. It took several months before the spotting regulated. Also if she was just a few hours late taking a pill she would begin spotting right away.

I have been using this medication for 2 months and have had problems since I began taking it. I have only been on one other type of birth control and had to quit taking that because of the side effects. This medication is so bad that I'm nauseas every day, I have horrible head aches at least 3 days a week, I have had spotting 2 weeks before each period and bleed for 2 weeks after that so it's like I'm constantly on my period. Also the medication has made my mood swings alot worse. The medication made my other health issues so bad that I have to take at least 2 days a week off work each week because I can not function. I have already talked to my doctor about switching to another method or not taking it at all do to the issues.Read More Read Less

I just got through my second month of this pill. I am 46 and was put on it to help control heavy/painful menstruation and severe depression and fatigue about a week before my period. The first month did not seem too bad and my cramps were reduced greatly. The second month, I started feeling tired and would cry a lot. I got a period in the middle of the pack and after that, it just continued to go downhill in terms of ongoing severe depression and extreme fatigue. So I ended up spending about 3 weeks feeling really bad instead of just my usual one week. I also noticed stomach pain at times and headaches. I didn't gain any weight though my breast cup size enlarged. I will be sad to see that go, but I simply can't risk any further exhaustion and depression than I've already had. So I will not go through with the third month, though that is what I heard it takes to adjust. I just can't take chances with my depression. I'm feeling so unwell and fatigued that I started having suicidal thoughts. Instead, I am going to stay off of caffeiene as I quit shortly after starting this pill and work on my diet and get acupunture or try other natural remedies first. Taking artificial hormones at my age just scares me as I have taken already far too many meds for the depression. I just feel like a very tired zombie on this stuff most of the time now. If you suffer from depression, I would advise not trying to wait it out if you are start to feel like you can't handle it anymore and are feeling suicidal. Read More Read Less
