Started 5mg finasteride for BPH couple years ago. I was miserable...2-3 bathroom trips nightly, discomfort in testicles (like I'd been kicked) and worst of all, blood in ejaculate that turned it brown. The latter thoroughly disgusted my wife and me. Took a few months to kick in, but now bathroom trips are 1-2, discomfort and blood are gone. Hooray! Downside is same as others have mentioned.....ge...

I have only used 5 mg for 3 weeks. They tell the truth on side effects. I have had almost all. Terrible brain fog at first. My penis is shrunk to nothing, balls ache. I have some small breasts.my wife and I are not active , in our 60's. So sex don't matter. Will see if my testacles shrink yet. It is not a good medicine, side effects terrible. But not much choice. I have prostrate cancer, see if it helps.

I have only taken it 6 days. I have many of the side effects.they include brain fog, testacle discomfort, sensitive ripples, tingly fingers.i take 5mg finasteride. As far as importance, it has not been long enough to judge. So up to you! I'm 61, no sex anymore, so if I get the sexual side effects, it don't matter.

Doubtless effective at treating hair loss but a disaster in terms of side effects . After only one month I ceased taking it . Many , but not all side effects are still in evidence about 10 months later .1) sperm doesn’t go as far 2) reduced quantity of sperm 3) somewhat reduced sex drive . If you absolutely can’t tolerate hair loss consider topical options as I think there’s quite a bit of under -reporting here .

I’m 52 years old and have been taking 5mg Finasteride for five years. It’s worked great for me. I sleep all night without having to pee. My wife is going through menopause, so my reduction in sex drive matches her sex drive much better. This medicine has greatly improved my urine retention problems and I’m keeping my hair.

I have been taking finasteride 5mg along with tamsulosin for the past two years. It took about 6 months, but the side effects have improved greatly over time. I'm also on TRT therapy which takes care of the libido issues! The tamsulosin has actually helped with ED.

It kept my hair around longer I know that. I lost it all when I quit by about 6 months later. Now I’m a year “post fin”. I am glad that I stopped. Almost 20 years of being irritable or sad and having trouble with my wife in bed almost every time (and being irritable and sad about that too). And looking at my scalp at least twice a day. I was hooked on hope of some version of myself that did not exist.

Generic drugs are becoming smaller and smaller. Since it was so small, it appears the "generic drugs from Camber" was a compressed tablet from active ingredient plus a few mg of starch or lactose. It appears there is no formulation, no pharmacokinetics similar to the original brand name Proscar.

This drug is absolutely awful. It makes you unbelievably despondent, even suicidal. It kills your sex drive and ability to get and hold an erection. I’d rather be bald than lose my love for life.

I'm 62 years old, retired Chief Petty Officer US Coast Guard. My PSA was 29, the VA prescribed Tamsulosin (Flowmax) and stated when taken with Finasteride both work very well together. I have been taken both for about 3 months. In only 3 months my PSA went down to 11.5 and still going down, a huge difference and I very rarely have to get up to pee at night and I don't have to urinate as often as I did or as urgent as I did, I have a real good urine flow now. My wife is 14 years younger than me so sex is important, I did have a loss of sex drive but not anymore, honestly I think it's psychological, sex is great again and I just changed my thoughts, the mind is very powerful. All I can say is that it has drastically helped me, and the plus is my hair is thicker which is a bonus.Read More Read Less

I took this as part of a hormone replacement regimen, as I am transgender. Targeted effects were spot on - reduced size of testes, scrotum and penis; zero ejaculate. Side-effects kicked in after a few months. MAJOR depression, irritability, memory issues, brain fog, increased suicidal ideations and suicidality. I discovered a site called pfsfoundation.org and saw I had all but one of their listed side-effects, when combined is referred to as Post-Finasteride Syndrome. It says "post," because the symptoms *can* continue after stopping use. Have now been off for almost 8 weeks. Most side-effects have reversed or gotten better.Read More Read Less

Do not allow your position to prescribe this drug for you. You will be sorry for the rest of your life. It completely takes away your manhood. no sexual desire no erection!! And no improvement after a full year. No improvement after discontinuing this medication.

I took it for about 12 weeks. The first 10 weeks, I experienced no sexual side effects. The next two weeks, i had erectile issues and very reduced ejaculate. The side effects enough for me to decide to stop. I think it's helping with hair loss, but not enough for me to accept the sexual side effects.

Patient should be warned by urologist of the sexual side effects. No sex drive, Extreme ED. Urologist should be taken to court for not explaining terrible side effects to user.

I’m a 65 year old female and a dermatologist put me on Finesteride for hair loss. I noticed dry mouth within the first week of taking this med. The dermatologist said dry mouth is not a symptom so I dealt with it. I took the medicine 5 months and the dry mouth became very uncomfortable. Once I stopped taking it the dry mouth went away. This took a few weeks but thankfully it’s gone.

I have been on 5 mg Finasteride for several months now. Yes, it does lower sexual desire and erections are more difficult to maintain. But, it is effective for BPH symptoms. Its a trade off between the two. I would caution against it for someone with an active sex life. However, for someone like myself in a sexless marriage, the loss of interest in sex is not a bad thing. In my case, my doctor was up-front about the sexual side effects. She stated that the maker's data suggested only a very small number of men would be affected, but some independent tests show a much higher percentage are affected - and that a recent study suggests it is 5 to 6 times more likely to have sexual side effects than Avodart. Her take was for men with an active sex life, or who want one even if they don't at present have one, go with Avodart. For men who would be quite OK with turning down the volume of sexual desire - Finasteride is the way to go. My wife is in menopause and even before this did not like sex. I have no interest in cheating, and quite frankly I am sick of masturbating. So I gave Finasteride a try, and the BPH is so much better. To be honest, I like the side effects. Big warning - for a few men, Finasteride can lead to depression - if this happens get off of it! For me, honestly I am happier, and more cheerful because I no longer have a large sex drive that goes unsatisfied.Read More Read Less
