I have been on this medication for approximately 6 weeks. I have tried several other cholesterol meds but nothing worked and I had extreme joint pain while on the other meds. After one month, my cholesterol dropped from 260 to 140. My tri dropped from 390 to 240. My dr also had me take 5000 units of Vitamin D one week prior to starting the Livalo and continuing for two weeks after I started th...
I haven't used it long enough to really voice my experience as of yet.

I have reacted badly to other statins but gave this new drug Livalo a try. My doc put me on the maximum dose which was the first mistake. After 1 week of taking this drug I had a daily headache, was itchy all over, and had an episode of confusion where I could not carry on a normal conversation with my husband. Needless to say I discontinued this prescription and am now seeking homeopathic remedies instead. Oh and once I discontinued I noticed that my urine output changed, it had increased a lot on the drug.Read More Read Less

Once again, I have been duped into thinking this statin would be different. It's not. I've been on zocor, pravachol, mevacor, lipitor, all with reactions ranging from mood swings to muscle pain and weakness. The first (zocor) took several months for the symptoms to manifest themselves. In one case, my total cholesterol actually rose 40 points. Since then, I've avoided statins like the plague; but last week my doctor suggested I try Livalo. He said it was absorbed differently and in his experience people who didn't tolerate other statins could take this one. That may be, but over the past seven days, I've begun to experience the mood swings, aching in my arms/legs and now a persistent dry hacking cough. I've dc'd the medicine once again. The advice I would offer anyone with cholesterol issues is to evaluate your lifestyle. My high cholesterol is a result of inflammatory issues (asthma, IBD/Hashimoto's thyroiditis) aggravated by carbohydrate consumption. It is definitely improved by cutting back on carbs and exercise. It will never be perfect, but no condition warrants taking drugs with these side effects.Read More Read Less

After taking Livalo for only three weeks I began having severe joint pain in my hands--so severe that when I tried to close my hands it felt as if they had been slammed in the car door. I also experienced wrist and shoulder pain which I had not had before. Even though I stopped taking Livalo more than four weeks ago, the joint pain is not completely gone. It has gotten better, but it is not gone.

I've been on 2 mg 3 times a week for several months. The initial headache has gone. I feel so exhausted on it that I have a hard time getting out of bed each day, even after 9-10 hours of sleep! Labs next month; we'll see if it's worth it. 3x statin failure; successful with Colestid and Zetia but Colestid is a real nuisance.

I take one 2mg tablet every other day. I've been doing this for about 1 1/2 yrs. I have constant muscle pain, memory loss, and my hair is falling out. I hate statins, but my doctor makes me feel like I'll die if I don't take them. I have tried Lopid, Antara, and red yeast rice, and Lovalo. My levels improved, but my life didn't. I loss sleep because I'm constantly in pain and rubbing my calves all night. I can't lift things or do things I use to do because the muscles in my arms hurt. I find myself forgeting where I'm going when I drive my car. I have difficulty remembering where I put stuff, what I was just talking about, what I was watching on TV. I use to channel surf when commercials came on to see what else was on the TV. But, I can't do that now, because if I change the channel, I can't remember what I was watching. I haven't cut my hair in 12 yrs. I have natural curly blonde hair that I use to get compliments on. But it is falling out. It goes on and on, but typing is making my hands hurt. So this is good enough for you to get the idea. Read More Read Less

this med has been effective for me, it brought the number to where they should be in a short time. I have not been able to take other statins and I have tried them all. I've notice that when I am on it for couple of weeks I become tired, and I stop taking it for a few days and was better and then get back on it.

after trying two other statins that cause too much leg pain, I was put on Livalo. It has lower my LDL, with no leg pain and it only costs $18 with my copay card I received from my doctor. So far, so good.

I have been on Livalo for a month, it has brought down all my lipid profile numbers. I have had no side effects. It is easy to take, can be taken any time, with or without food. I have tried 4 other cholesterol medications, while the statins worked well to bring my numbers down, I had muscle pain while on them, Gemfibrozil and Zetia cause instestinal problems.

Ever all feeling is better than any other cholesterol medicine, but with side effects that include lower bak pain and abdominal tenderness. This is based on general feeling, but I have yet to have a blood analysis to get additional feedback.

I think statins are not for me. I have tried seven. Been on Livalo for 3 months, terrible shoulder pain, can't lift my arms above my head, sharp pain at night in back and legs that wakes me up. Terrible foot and toe pain (thought I had gout, I don't) during the day. Headache and post nasal drip, thought it was allergies, it's not. I'm done. Like another poster said, I'll try natural alternatives or die trying. Hate feeling bad. Teach school so I CAN'T feel bad.

My LDL, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were high on previous meds. I had muscle aches and pains with pravachol and vytorin so my doctor had taken me off of statins. Livalo has worked well (LDL still a bit high but lower), and I have had no muscle aches. Perhaps CoQ10 has helped, but I am very pleased with this drug.

I have had foot, ankle & leg pain since taking this medication. I had to have my doctor fill out a form for my insurance before they would continue to pay for it. I was off of livalo for about a month due to insurance and I did notice that the pain seemed to go away and now that I am back on it I am having pain again. When I had my blood work done this time, it didn't seem like the livalo had helped very much. Will stay on it for another couple of months and see how my numbers are.

Livalo worked to reduce my cholesterol; however, I have had terrible muscle pain in my arms and legs (especially at night) for a few months now and a new pain management doctor finally suggested that Livalo might be the cause. I stopped taking Livalo 48 hours ago and last night was the first night in months that I haven't had to take Vicodin or Percocet for my pain.

My numbers aren't to bad however I did suffer a heart attack 2 months ago and the doc put me on this med.I have previously taken 3 other statins that gave me all the symptoms I am reading here. Not sure if Livalo is the answer as I am having some muscle pain and severe fatigue. I felt much better when they took me off the beta blockers but now feel tired all the time. This morning my shoulders were aching and lower back was sore this is new so will wait and see. I doubt there is a statin out there that is 100% free of side effects but sure would like one with minimal effects. Otherwise will have to resort to whatever else is available. Read More Read Less

I took this medication for 3 weeks (sample). I had no bad effects except my hair was thinning. I fought with the insurance company for the next 20 days until it was approved even though I have a $25 manufacturer coupon. Taking for 2 weeks now and have bad back pain, severe headaches, toe cramps, loss of hearing, cough and loss of smell. My head feels like it is under water. I take 2mg but i will cut the pill in half and take every other day to see if that helps. I've taken every other statin known but have very severe side effects from all. My next blood work is next week.Read More Read Less
