Privigen has given me so much more energy to be able to do activites with my son and husband! It is also keeping me from getting infections that I would normally have all the time. The only thing is the bad headache I have for days after infusing. My rate is very slow and I infuse for 8 hours, but still have it. The rewards out weigh the side effects!!

Extreme fatigue after starting this medication. Developed three blood clots (heart and both lungs) after being on Privigen for 4 months.

Very effective but with some side effects. My first dose was of 2mg/kg. I weigh 80kg , so I had 8 bottles(20mg/bottle) of 200ml each over a period of 36 hrs.I had very high blood pressure and sever headache for a week after the infuus. My CIDP symptoms vanished from day 2 and I could walk without pain and no tingling in hands or feet. After consulting my neurologist I am taking now half the dose every six week. Takes 6 to 7 hrs stay at the hospital. No overnight stay. I still have high blood pressure and headache after every treatment.Read More Read Less

I have an IVIG every four weeks. The infusion center's pharmacy switched to Privigen from Octagam. They seem equally effective - breathing and muscle response improves after an IVIG and slowly gets worse. Privigen is more concentrated so IVIG is not as long. Also it is not sugar based.

Privigen has been a lifesaver for me. Before starting with IVIG treatments, I had frequent colds and other illnesses. A common cold would keep me in bed for 2 days minimum and thinking I would not survive. My infusions started at 60 grams (600 ml) and now I receive 400 ml monthly for 6-7 months each year. I am rarely sick and my IgG counts have gone from about 200 to 900+ (normal range is 610 to 1,616). Finally, I have had no adverse side effects. The treatment is very expensive because of the drug's cost (but covered by insurance at a much lower approved rate).Read More Read Less

I would say that the infusions are working really well as it keeps me out of hospital and ICU. After the very first infusion I was chilled, had a bad headache, and was exhausted. My husband had to bring me out to the car in a wheelchair. I now take an antihistamine and acetaminophen prior to the infusion and now drive myself to and from treatments. Sometimes I feel invigorated afterward and other times I just want to go home and rest or sleep. I used to get a really bad headache two days after an infusion. This happened 3 months in a row then disappeared. There was a small decrease in dosage around the time the headaches stopped,so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. In the two years I've had infusions I've only been sick three times. One event was mild and treated with OTC drugs. Two events were more involved and treated with antibiotics. No hospital stays or ICU. That was huge! Before being diagnosed with CVID I was always in trouble with any kind of strep infection, resulting in sepsis. Getting infused every four weeks is small inconvenience compared to what I have been through with hospital stays in ICU, plus rehab. Life is much improved. I'm no longer terrified if I get a cough, sore throat, runny nose, or sinus congestion, etc. Life is good once again!Read More Read Less

I just completed my 2nd year of treatment and I've gone from chronic illness 14 times a year (throat/ear/nose, bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma related illness) down to perhaps most... 4 times a year. HUGE improvement and difference in my quality of life. Some months after treatment within hours I feel like I had rocket fuel in my treatment (((smile))) and 20 yrs. younger. Other times I am rundown for a few days and rest. As for side effects, occasionally I have a migraine but I believe that to be more weather change related than the actual treatment and I take tylenol pm prior to my IVIG treatment since it helps alot. I have noticed that the last three treatments that I end up with a nosebleed... nothing very serious but something I keep a watchful eye on and sometimes my joints ache more than other times. If I had only been diagnosed decades... or even a few years earlier, it may have helped lessen the need for my asthma/sinus medications. I would definitely recommend giving this treatment a try. In most cases, everyone that I have my treatments with have all benefitted tremendously and also impacted their quality of life. Read More Read Less
