BP running consistantly at least 150/100, hot flashes (perimenapause), SOB, nervous, heart palpitations interfering with sleep, Hyper or exhausted, no in-between. Was placed on two different anti-depressants and HCTZ, had allergic reactions to all. Smart physician suggested clonidine and I now have BP of 120/80 or lower, no more palpatations, hot flashes greatly decreased, and I'am able to relax. ...

DO NOT GIVE YOUR CHILD THIS DRUG. My mother took me off this med when I was prescribed for ADD because i was experiencing muscle twitches in my jaw. I almost experience mental retardation if it weren't for her taking me off of it.

Started medication using the patch for hot flashes and mental fog; after a few days hot flashes were gone. But found that I was tired and assumed it was low blood pressure as I did not have high blood pressure. I also noticed I had pain in my joints and blurred vision, had very strange vivid nightmares. Then I started getting hives, and my skin itched so badly under the patch that it felt like it was on fire. So I made an appointment and told my NP about the skin reaction. We decided to try pill form. Not the best idea. After a couple of days I had a severe allergic reaction. In dealing with the allergy I found that all the other issues I had were side effects of the clonidine. Luckily I did not have difficulty breathing, but my face swelled horribly. I just happen to be allergic to it. I am sure it can be a wonder drug for people who are not.Read More Read Less

Been taking this for a couple of months. I take 1 .1 pill in the evening & a patch all day. I have bad heartburn, breathlessness & tiredness. I go to the dr's in a couple of days & I want off. I will carry it for emergency but that's it. I also take Benicar HCT 40/15.

My 11 year old has been taking this drug for about 5 years now. Without it she will NOT sleep. I worry about her being on it for so long but we have not been able to find anything else to help her sleep. She has ADHD and takes generic Ritalin during the day but can't sleep without the clonidine at night. Can this really be harmless?? She started at .1 and has been on .2mg for a year now.

Honestly, I was receiving this day and night while I was in jail and had crippling heroin and benzo withdrawls. Additionally I was receiving daily decreasing amounts of Klonopin, ibuprofen, and pepto bismal. I think the Clonidine and Klonopin had tremendously helped me feel better. I still had the normal withdrawl symptoms, but atleast I was able to get a couple hours of SLEEP a night and didn't just roll around restlessly the whole time. The only issue was since this is also used for high blood pressure, they wouldn't give it to me when my blood pressure was too low. This could be because I was hardly able to eat or drink anything and from hardly moving around.Read More Read Less

Taking Clonidine due to coming off Fentanyl Patches 75mcg every 2 days to 70Mg ER morphine bi-daily. My choice to get off the pathces as they have sticking issues and made me groggy at the worst time s[down the beach etc :) ] I find the clondine would help me sleep for about 3 hours but then wore off, I also found that after 7 days I had to double the dose to get the same effect. I found it worked better during the day as would stop my eyes running and I would only have to stretch a bit = cam eand went but made things more tolerable. I'd rather have it if nothing else = but this is an ethical issue in my opinion as the only reason I needed it as the Doctor believes no one gets pain relief from opiates and we should live with the pain. Apparently the climate in South OZ is that they dont care about relieving pain, they want to see improved functionality. Stay Away from Willunga Medical Center =RhyLynRead More Read Less

I have been taking this medication for 3 months. The last month my lips are so dry and I do experience dry mouth during the night. I take it in conjunction with Metaprolol and they make me sleepy. Cannot take them early in the day. I use chapstick all day. Very bothersome .

Typical side effects: Dry Mouth (night), Pace Maker working harder at night due to slow HR. BP still spikes when working moderate workout on treadmill. Constipation solved with Magnesium Supplement which also eliminated evening cramps in my legs. Wake up with heavy legs until I have walked around a bit. Had to reduce to .05mg three times a day as side effects with .1mg tablet somewhat severe. Dreams are vivid and sometimes bothersome. This is medicine of last resort as I am alergic to other types of meds. I still have random jumps in BP to over 220/110 which can last for an hour to a few days. The clonidine helps to reduce these jumps to less than 170/85. I have been checked for pheochomocytoma and found negative.Read More Read Less

Clonidine is my least favorite stress-reliever, but I will use it in a pinch - if I have nothing else. (Normally I use Valium or sometimes herbal sedatives). The side effects of clonidine are very anti-productive. Case in point: I can take Valium & still move about freely, plenty of energy to work on my job. But clonidine? A big No. Clonidine sucks all energy & motivation out of me, makes me feel like I have iron-deficiency anemia. Recently a co-worker remarked, "my god... your eyes...they look DEAD," after I'd taken a prescribed dose of clonidine. The sapping-of-energy is *that* noticeable to others. Not good while on the job. The side effects just ain't worth it. Skip it, if you can.Read More Read Less

For me the most disabling part of opiate withdrawal is (a.) crushing mental depression and (b.) a related lack of energy - when just getting up to go to the bathroom is a major chore. Clonidine just makes both of that worse. It's my *last choice* for opiate withdrawal. Ok, what clonidine will do is: alleviate restlesness & perhaps force you to rest if you're about to go crazy, but that's about all. I eventually found that having clonidine around *as a backup/adjunct to other w.d. aids* is more reliable. One example, kratom (a legal herbal opioid), totally reverses the mental depression & lack of energy - that's important when you've got a good job to keep. A Valium or two, here & there, maybe a clonidine if the blood pressure spikes. But as the sole agent in opioid withdrawal clonidine is a poor choice. It's got the side effect of making you feel like crap - when you already do. You'll go right back to your opiate drug if you rely on clonidine alone, trust me.Read More Read Less

Been taking for 4 days and blood pressure has dropped dramatically- so it has done what was intended. Side affects so far are a VERY DRY MOUTH (like swallowing cotton balls!), very tired within an hours of taking pill and sleep has been sparatic due to having to urinate more due to to excessive consumption of water to combat dry mouth (.1 2x daily), and have seem to have lost sexual desire. Have Tourette's as well but too soon to see if it helps. I seem to be calmer, more relaxed- maybe too relaxed. Jury is still out- will stick it out for a month or so. nice to see my BP is normal for the 1st time in 30+ years.Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication for a little less than one year. Extremely tired after taking, hair started to fall out, experienced terrible dizzy spells and 30 plus pounds weight gain. Lost control of my bladder after a few months of taking, (way too young at 55 to have all of those symptoms appear AFTER starting the medication). All of these symptoms become worse so I stopped taking the medication. Within 3 days of stopping the medication my bladder problems improved, my hair stopped falling out by 95%, and each day I am SLOWLY starting to feel normal again. It became so bad that I stayed in bed unable to function. This medication is awful and although it is inexpensive and easy to take, the side effects were horrible. I am slowly getting better. It also caused my blood pressure to spike. Awful medication. Read More Read Less

Been on this medication for ten months, I hate the side effects. I had alot of hair loss and within an hour of taking it during the day I become so tired that I have to sleep if I don't I get a painful headache and my body hurts until I nap. I am trying to get off this drug but as soon as we decreased the dose my bp went right back up. I am having horrible withdraw symptoms from it. I hope I can get off of it and find something that works just as well.
