I had severe headaches that would last 24/7 for weeks at a time. I was at the end of my rope. The only way I could stop the pain was to go to the hosiptal and get a Compazine i.v. I'd go home and sleep it off and a day later the headache would come back. If I weren't a mother I would have considered ending it. Absolutely nothing else worked. When I started taking this drug I had very strange d...

This medication is poison. I suffered from insomnia, fear and depression. Coming off was 10 days of misery. Don’t take it!!!!

Medication has taken away a majority of pain(50 mg per day)and my mood is pretty good. There are (2) BIG drawbacks with this drug. The dry mouth coupled with a nasty taste is a big problem. I have also noticed a big weight gain. Will continue to take it and hope the side effects lessen

I got scared with the effects like a heart attack. It scared me enough to ask, "Am I going to die?" I'd feel like this is it. Fast heart beat with brain numbness, thinking is mixed up, dizzy when I'd get up from sitting and felt faint my head would buzz and lose sight and got afraid I was dying or going to pass out. Blood pressure was okay though.

I started using using this medication in Dec. 2013. 2 weeks after, I discovered rashes above my right shoulder and I used Cortizone 10. It worked for 4 days then another set of rash popped up around my neck. I used Cortizone 10, it worked then another set of rash under my armpits, the my elbows and my chins. So, tonight,3/01/2014,I decided to check this medication and found these severe symptons. I'm stopping its use and contacting my Doctor on Monday. This was supposed to be used for headaches not to bring rashes and itching :-) It was intended to reduce my Excedrin in-take, but my Excedrin works when taken for my headaches. I think I'll stick to my Excedrin. What do you think, guys ? :-)Read More Read Less

7 disks in my neck are bone on bone. 4 years ago i had a laminectomy, which reduced my pain in half at first. Pain management tried quite a few drugs on me as I was unable to sit in a chair longer than 15 minutes. The pain increased the longer I sat. After taking Nortriptyline for 1 week, I was able to sit for about 3 - 5 hours> I don't care for the side effects which inlcude constipation, for which I take probiotics to relieve this condition. Plus I have to literally push with my muscles to urinate until my bladder is empty. It's worth it to be able to sit down without pain again.Read More Read Less

I'm 41 years old and I was in a car accident almost 3 years ago as a front passenger. Rear ended by reckless driver. I have numerous neck, spine and tailbone problems. I have MRI to show one herniated disc, one bulging disc, radial annulus tear. I have nerve damage from my neck to my left leg. I have been prescribed over 20 medications. I had numerous trigger point injections and epidural steroid injections with very little success.I have chronic migraine attacks every 2 weeks, prior to MVA I only had maybe 2 migraines per year. 5 months ago I was prescribed Nortryptiline. This medication has changed my life. I take 20 MG at night. My headaches still happen, but nothing compared to the last 3 years. My appetite was actually surpressed instead of experiencing weight gain. My overall nerve pain has decreased. The only time I feel pain is when my medication wears off. I also take Tramadol 2 X per day and 50 Mg of Zoloft once per day. The Nortryptiline and Tramadol combo is the best for my situation. My mood has also been very positive and I have most energy back. I do have to take a nap 2-3 hours per day in daytime. Read More Read Less

I've suffered from depression since adolescence. 10 years of therapy have helped me cope but have tried multiple SSRIs, SNRIs, and Welbutrin throughout the years without any of them working well longterm. I've been on nortriptypine for over 5 years now and it is the best anti-depressant I've ever tried by far. I actually sleep for the first time in my life without waking up with panic attacks. Getting a good night's sleep alone has probably done wonders for my depression and anxiety. Sometimes I do feel a bit more tired when I do wake up but it's worth the good sleep. I do have some annoying side effects like increased heart rate, dry mouth, and flushing/red skin but they are worth the results I get. I haven't had a manic episode in years and am able to control and re-direct negative emotions much more effectively than I ever have. I really thank the one psychiatrist that suggest this medication to me, it changed my life.Read More Read Less

This medication was very helpful to remove my nerve pain and anxiety, but it caused me irregular and fast heart beat too. My Dr. Recommended me to change the medication and I did. Thanks

My youngest son has done 5 tours so far in Afghanistan and never tells me when he has returned stateside - so I continue to worry. One pill at night helps me to sleep undisturbed through the night, otherwise I find myself crying whenever something reminds me of him.

I was prescribed this medication for nerve pain. I've had dry mouth, weight gain, and severe sweating, plus it makes me very nervous. My condition is not hard to live with as the cure.
