I had severe headaches that would last 24/7 for weeks at a time. I was at the end of my rope. The only way I could stop the pain was to go to the hosiptal and get a Compazine i.v. I'd go home and sleep it off and a day later the headache would come back. If I weren't a mother I would have considered ending it. Absolutely nothing else worked. When I started taking this drug I had very strange d...
This medication is poison. I suffered from insomnia, fear and depression. Coming off was 10 days of misery. Don’t take it!!!!

The 10mg dose seems to work, but only for maybe 6 hours. Cannot afford side effects such as sleeplessness and weight gain; and because of kidney disease, fluid retention must be avoided. Will stick to opiates.

While my pain level has been greatly reduced to a level which allows me to function, I now struggle with weight gain, which I gained in spite of daily exercise and strict diet. Until I read other reviews on this site, I could not figure out where the weight gain was coming from. I also dream like there is no tomorrow between this medication and the amitryptilene I am also taking. I was on 50 mg of each 1 time per day and I have now cut back to 25 mg of each/day, hoping to still manage my pain but lose the weight gain....It seems there is always a trade off when taking any medication; a symptom is treated and others pop up.Read More Read Less

I take 25mg tablet at bedtime. overtime I have had to take zopiclone for sleep, since the side effect of noratrypline is insomnia. I have ringing in ears, but considering that I have tried all previous SSRI drugs and suicide did reoccur because of those drugs. I am left with two choices ameltryapline or noratrypline. So far at low doses it' very good.

My mother was taking this medicine for her depression. She was on it for a little over a year. She committed suicide while on this medication...ironically...this medication is what she used for the suicide...she took an intentional overdose. I suppose that everyone is different and responds different to medication but I have read some other's comments about extreme mood changes in their loved ones. Then there are other reports stating everything is working great. I have always found it strange that the very medications they use to treat depression can actually make it worse. Most antidepressants now actually have warnings about causing a deeper level of depression and actually causing thoughts of suicide in some people...even in those who have never considered suicide previously. Doesn't make sense to me...but I am not a doctor nor a chemist who make these drugs. Hooray to those of you that find relief in this medicine and I have deep sympathies for those who have seen themselves or their loved ones go further downhill. It is rough to witness someone's pain and suffering like that. Read More Read Less

Neurologist prescribed low dose for peripheral neuropathy. Seems to help and I am sleeping very well. Dry mouth almost unbearable -- hope that calms. The peeing issue is there but no other side effects -- could it be power of suggestion as Dr mentioned only those two sides. I also have Morton's Neuroma which has lessened (many thanks to the arch support insert).

Started on 25mg dose for low back pain and sciatica. Concurrently taking gabapentin and hydrocodone. Marginal impact on back and leg pain. Causes dry mouth, darker urine, decreased libido, increased resting heart rate and palpitations while sleeping. It does improve mood stability.

I am watching my child that has been prescribed this medication. We have seen some mood changes and question as to the medication or the scenario of a teen with CRPS. One thing the doctor insisted on was that she has to chew 'Trident' gum one piece after another and even wrote a note to her teachers regarding this. He said it will help with the dry mouth and save her teeth from falling out. Having just paid $6K for braces... we will keep the Trident coming!! Thank you everyone for your input.Read More Read Less

This medicine was used to treat Depression and also as a preventative for Migaines. While it worked for the migraines, I have found that I have gained 35 pounds. I have been diligent in my eating habits and have also joined a gym - working out 4-5 times a week. The weight has remained at the high level. With this in mind, I have found myself more depressed, as I don't look good.

I switched from cymbalta to this med because cymbalta costs me $220 out of pocket. Cymbalta was working well, just way too expensive. Nortiptyline made me very anxious, anger and exhausted. If not for the holiday I would be going back to cymbalta immediately.

My doctor prescriped with for me for lower back pain and severe kidney pain, and maybe to help with the migraines. But I only have been taking it for 3 days and I have not slept, I have been in pain since then no relief from the kidney problem. I have had a severe migraine since I took it. The doc said go to 50 mg. Now I have suck severe hearburn and a headache that I am no longer taking this med Please anyone read up on your meds because sometimes it is best to deal with other things, like kidney pain then to go through severe heartburn & migraine. This is hell, I rather deal with my severe kidney pain then this mess.Read More Read Less

Perscribed to my 9yr old daughter who has migranes and unable to sleep at night, and has a spot on her brain. She now is a very unhappy little girl who scratches herself in anger, says her life stinks, and never smiles. She has even voiced she wants to die. AS a mom I am heartbroken and feel I have been poisening my little girl. I'm sure everyone is different, I just wish I would have read more about it. We were in the ER all night last night because she went on a major rage fit and scratched her face all up.Read More Read Less
