I had severe headaches that would last 24/7 for weeks at a time. I was at the end of my rope. The only way I could stop the pain was to go to the hosiptal and get a Compazine i.v. I'd go home and sleep it off and a day later the headache would come back. If I weren't a mother I would have considered ending it. Absolutely nothing else worked. When I started taking this drug I had very strange d...

This medication is poison. I suffered from insomnia, fear and depression. Coming off was 10 days of misery. Don’t take it!!!!

Taking this drug for neuropathic pain was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a prescription drug. Not only did the drug NOT help with the pain nor help as a sleep aid but, in fact, made matters worse. The pain that had focused on my lower limbs was now throughout my body. Shivers, aches, and tingling from head to toe. Hallucinations and severe anxiety were also a nice side effect that I was not expecting. When I mentioned this to the doctor she was alarmed but not terribly surprised. This drug may work for some but it definitely did NOT work for me. Thumbs down from me I am sorry to say. I have Stage 5 CRPS and have been taking 75MG of Nortriptyline (Generic for Pamelor) at bedtime for a few years now. I feel that I have been taking it long enough to say for sure that it helps with my treatment. I recommend this drug, but everyone is different and we all respond to medication differently, I hope Nortriptyline give's you the same hope in your treatment that it has given me.

I just started this drug in 10mg two weeks ago, my PCP gave it to me to help sleep at night as I also take Percocet 10/325 and Oxycontin 15mg for unknown leg pain since 2009, the pain wakes me at night, before rain moves in and the cold. I do everything to manage my weight as my normal weight is 108-110, I dropped to 98lbs and gained back 8lbs over night while taking this drug. I don't sleep at night stay up until 3-4 AM and this is why my (PCP) doctor prescribed this drug to help fall asleep and stay asleep. I informed him today it makes me feel drugged out all the next day and weight gain. I am honest with my PCP and I stopped taking this medication before symptoms get any worse. There are other medications that will help sleep until then I'll continue taking a Xanax 2mg that I've been on for 20 years. :I don't take on normal bases 4X daily, take only when I feel shaky from withdraws, cut my own self down to 2 a day, so taking one at bedtime and drinking more water should help. I refuse to take this medication.Read More Read Less

Extreme pain in both feet and numbness from diabetic neuropathy. Have tried just about every drug for condition, so far my fingers are crossed because I feel better, the constant pain is a lot better, can finally sleep thru the night, only negative so far is the foggy feeling but can handle that with the pain in the feet is better.

Started taking this about 3 weeks ago for Chronic Migraine pain and I also have a brain aneurysm. I have had the headache for 4 1/2 months with no relief. The severity has decreased slightly but not complete relief. I have noticed a decrease in the numbness and tingling that were also part of a prediabetic neuropathy diagnosis. Side effects I have noticed are feeling tired all day, mild nausea 2-3 days a week, minor dry mouth, but no desire to drink, and loss of appetite. I am at 50 mg that I take nightly. I do sleep well at night and have not noticed any strange dreams. Read More Read Less

I have taken Nortriptyline for over 20 years for Migraines. Be careful - I found that with a new prescription from a different manufacturer I had horrific migraines again. When I switched back to the old manufacturer - no problem! It works wonderfully. I first started with Elavil & Inderal. Was on this combination for 10 years. Went off to get pregnant. Three years after having my child the migraines returned. Went on 100 mg of Nortriptyline and now my headaches are manageable with ibuprofen. Don't give up Read More Read Less

It works. Helps with the pain because I cannot stay awake. It completely knocks me out. I take 20mg per day. Cant keep my eyes open. Wish that side effect didn't exist because I have nothing else that bothers me about the medicine.

I was prescribed 20mg to take at night for migraines. But I am also taking Topamax 12.5 mg and Inderal 30 mg. I sleep better but I feel drowsy all day. I feel numb and detached. I don't feel alive. I'm wondering if these side effects will go away. Or if I'm over-medicated.

I just started taking this a week ago for pain. I take 10mg per day, it has helped some with the pain, but I wake up sleepy and it hangs on all day and when the tiredness starts to wear off late in the evening then it's time to take another one.

I began taking this due to sleep issues where other prescriptions have failed. I now take 50mg nightly and sleep better than before. The change in sleep patterns is noticeable, but not great. Basically, I say it helps but is not the answer to my sleep issues.

I've had 18 surgeries on my right foot due to bone cysts. It left me with a fair amount of neuropathic pain that cannot be relieved with spinal cord stim. I started taking a 25mg dose at night to help the pain and help me sleep. It was a miracle drug for 2.5 weeks. All of a sudden it built up enough in my system and I developed a severe allergic reaction to it -- hives all over my body, severe itching and rash. I'm really bummed because it really was working well. Back to square one.

Yes, it's an older tricyclic-type medication but it still ought to be prescribed with confidence today. Been a while since I took it, but I remember it's mild calmative effects & how that helped me quit drinking. Once-upon-a time I had such a bad drinking problem that I needed 12+ beers just so I could sleep at night - and so I wouldn't go into DT's. One night I discovered that taking Pamelor (nortryptaline) with just one can of beer allowed me to get a nice refreshing sleep without DT's. Eventually I was able to quit drinking altogether. Granted, nortryptaline isn't indicated for that use specfically, but that's what it did for me. It's very mild, it's relaxing and effective for many things.Read More Read Less

i was given this medication for migraine prevention, but i was interested that it helps depression and sleep because i struggle with those as well. the amount of migraines has been cut in half, i feel less depressed, and it helps me stay asleep for the whole night.

I have a severe concussion and was referred by my neurologists to start taking this. I have little to no headaches now and any emotional distress I had about not being able to do physical activity because of my concussion is masked. My mood has significantly changed for the better and it has become much easier to fall asleep.

Started at twenty-five mg., but now I'm up to seventy-five. Just have to wait and what benefits still await.
